Update One Hundred and Seventy-One: 19 May 2018
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
A short review of a short VN - Red String of Fate is just… okay! It’s all right.
The conceit is that you play as Valerie, a girl who can see red strings attached to everyone’s fingers leading to their soulmates. No one else can see this, and she doesn’t have one of her own. In college, she meets a guy who has a broken red string, and another guy who’s in the same boat she’s in - can see strings, doesn’t have one himself. She can fall for either of these guys, or keep holding on hope to find her own fated soulmate.
The game’s too short to really get in the kind of deep shit I enjoy, and everything’s rather surface. Nothing spectacular. But it’s free, and it made for a pretty okay afternoon. I won’t dissuade anyone from picking it up, but don’t go out of your way to pick it up, either. The art style’s a little weak, too.
Small edit: As I was putzing around I saw that this game is the first game by the devs who went on to make AIRIS, a free VN I liked a great deal. I’m glad to see how they improved!
Next up: My girlfriend didn’t have a good day on Thursday, and that, coincidentally, was the day this game was released. I bought and gifted it to her, and she was very pleased until she learned I didn’t buy a copy for myself. She immediately turned around and gifted me a copy, proving that I CAN’T MAKE ROMANTIC GESTURES, CAN I but also means it fits in with this month’s theme!
I’M GOIN’ BACK TO THE MANOR, Y’ALL
See you soon!
When I was a lot younger I saw a post online of this exact plot! I wonder if the person who made this saw the same thing or wrote it! Interesting idea.
ooooooo another Fate Morgana game. I still can’t afford the first one but I know it’s good so I really hope this one lives up to it!
Could be! I do like the idea, though it’s not explored very deeply.
Man, I hope so, too! Early reviews seem good, and I’m excited just to see these characters again. One of the main characters this time around is one of the least explored in the main game, so I’m very interested in the new insight into his character.
As for the main game, it’s currently 50% off making it a little bit cheaper than this one!
There’s a few different names for a legend re: the red thread, here’s an article if you’re interested. I had a feeling that game was based on the legend due to the name! I too came across it a lot more when I was younger.
Ah okay! Thanks for the article!
