Update Eighty: 18 November 2017
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
I got Trine 2 in I think 2015 as part of a humble bundle - if I recall correctly, it was a female protagonist bundle. This was long before steamgifts, where if I bought a bundle I’d keep an activate all the games in it. I would have put this up on steamgifts, or wouldn’t have bought this game, but I activated it and it was sitting in my library and I finally decided to clear it out.
For the first time in a while, I played a video game for the challenge. It reminded me of one fact above all: I don’t like playing video games for the challenge.
Trine 2 is a #D sidescrolling puzzle platformer, like Ori and the Blind Forest, but unlike Ori you switch between three human characters with different skillsets through a decidedly much more bare-bones story. It has solid gameplay, its visuals are very pretty, and it handled well.
It’s…. okay. It’s not my type of game, and I wouldn’t have picked it up had I not just gotten it in a bundle. My overwhelming feeling with it is just frustration and relief that it’s over - now I can play games that I find more fun.
I don’t know if I have any more to say about it. I’m thrilled as hell that I got this out of my backlog. I never thought I’d play it, but I’m glad I took on the challenge and won.
Next up: I had my girlfriend pick my next game and she chose:
See you soon!
Bummer, sorry you didn’t love it. I’ve been putting off Trine myself for ages as it doesn’t seem like the type of game I’d love playing solo, but local co-op seems like fun (some day…when everyone’s around to play). Also I’ve heard great things about Milkmaid, I really hope you enjoy it. :)
me, too! I love point n clicks and it looks like a hoot. I’m not a big fan of rhyme schemes, tho (it just comes off as too ‘cute’) but I’m excited to play
Playing a game just to mark is as beaten/completed? Without any fun? I think we are already too old and still too pretty to do this :D
Beside this fact, i think you still could pick up any other tine to fight off your backlog.
It’s like that sometimes!
The fact that you didn’t like it and still got all 97 achievements is actually impressive. It takes a lot of determination to do that. I’ve played some games I didn’t enjoy, but nothing close to completing any of them. Seriously, congrats.
On a more game-related note, I also got really frustrated playing this game alone, however, I played it with 2 friends during one of those free weekends and I actually liked it. Well, I guess, it’s already too late to suggest you to try it with 2 other people, if you haven’t already. xD
Anyway, have fun with Milkmaid. I’m looking forward to hearing your opnion about it, since it’s been in my wishlist for quite some time now.
Thank you, M. c: Things have still been rough around here - the job hunt is really draining and nothing’s popped so far. It’s hard and scary and so so exhausting, and it makes me feel like all my effort is meaningless. It was nice, with Trine, that I could put effort into something and see my progress - to put my nose to the grindstone and get results. I didn’t ENJOY it but, right now, it’s good for me.
Oh yeah, two people would’ve been a lot lot easier @_@ (also: get Milkmaid! my review is up and I really liked it)
I’ve been in the same situation myself recently. Since I had some money saved and my country is a mess right now, I’ve decided to focus on finishing my studies. I know, most people don’t have this choice, but as long as you keep improving yourself/your resumé while maintaining a positive attitude, I’m sure good things will come your way. I also know that it’s easier said than done, but you gotta keep trying because even the smallest effort accomplishes much more than doing nothing. :)
Btw, it’s such a shame that you can’t include this in your resumé. It really shows that you’re very persistent, which is a great quality, imo. xD
Thanks for the heads-up. I’m gonna read it tomorrow, because it’s almost 3 am here and I’m really tired. xD
I wish you the best of luck in your studies! That hard work will pay off.
I’m trying to keep positive, and I’m doing two volunteer jobs right now that buffs up my resume and gives me a lot of professional writing samples to work with. I’m focusing on networking a lot as well, which is more fulfilling than just throwing my resume into the void.
(And, I know! Other people include their hobbies on resumes, but video games still have a very bad reputation.)
So, you don’t like the game part of video games? Whoa, we really are opposites (I liked Trine 2, and I even bought it on its own instead of in a bundle). Did you not even like the more puzzle-y parts of the game?
If I meant that I would’ve said that - but yeah, that’s become more than clear: we’re very different kinds of gamers.
I liked it enough to get through it but I definitely wouldn’t say I ‘enjoyed’ any part of it other than getting a feel for the lvels and zipping around as Zoya - but I had that feeling in a much better way with Ori.
