Update Two Hundred and Fifteen: 21 August 2018

The Edgelands

3.2 hours, 22 of 24 achievements
7.5/10

☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆

I think I’ve discovered the ultimate sub-sub-sub genre - point and click-likes with puzzles based on exploration and no inventory and no moon-logic and a lot of weird eerieness. The Edgelands reads like a slow burn creepypasta - a well written one, too, with just the horror of the unexplained and the half-seen to get under the skin.

It’s not a SCARY game, by any means, just a very atmospheric one - caught between a Welcome to Night Vale episode and my FAVORITE SCP entry (though much less complicated and overly terrifying). The murky world in the Edgelands is a stable one, one that’s strangely relatable. The images the game plays with are interesting and spooky and fun. Spending a few hours exploring this world was well worth it.

The score doesn’t help, though - while its heavy electronic tones set the mood, it’s VERY repetitive. I played most of the game with it off.

There’s absolutely no documentation for achievements for this game, so there’s two I just couldn’t figure out how to get. I’m marking this game ‘to revisit’ - hopefully sometime soon I’ll get a tip and be able to knock it out.

Next up: Weird August Continues.

See you soon!

Just as long as you play appropriately atmospheric music of your own on top of it!

I thought you only ignore GOOD soundtracks. :blobdogglare:
