Update Seventy-Four: 7 November 2017
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
It’s about god damn time this game is over. It’s official: I do not like SUDA51 games.
The Silver Case is a police procedural that has some fantastical dystopian elements and/or SUDA51 does not know how society works (the idea of crime as a LITERAL virus is a big one). It’s a deeply pessimistic, cynical game that often strikes a jocular tone - even in the midst of a very dramatic scene, one main character will persist in calling the player character ‘Big Dick’. That’s the kind of game this is.
What’s even better is that, to fully complete the game, you basically have to play through the same story twice - once as the Special Forces character you name, and then once as a journalist operating on the outside of the police force. There’s differences, but not many, and the ‘new’ information you learn as the journalist is seriously not worth the additional 6+ hours you have to put in to get through it.
The plot is nonsensical, and it’s not charming enough or goofy enough to make this allowable (which is why I love SWERY65 despite him being in the same category of creator and having some of the same weaknesses). Everyone’s a big fucking asshole and genuinely unpleasant, I managed to call the BEEG TWEEST very early on (a bad sign - I don’t like being able to do that), and the main feeling that this game inspired in me was irritation. This game is incredibly slow paced with unskippable text and scene transistions that last 6 seconds or so EVERY. TIME.
It’s not ALL bad - though what’s good about it isn’t enough for me to ever recommend it to anybody but people who already like this developer/brand of storytelling. The UI is really unique and actually kind of fun to work with, and I’m a sucker for late 90’s aesthetics. The game has some interesting themes about what the advent of the mass internet age was like, and how people adapted to using the internet - something that I take for granted, having grown up with it. The art is lovely.
Next up: please god please be good please god please be good please god please be good
edit: wait, nvm, the game is not fully translated into english yet. Let's try this shit again!
See you soon!
63 hours? Phew, that is pretty long for a game you did not enjoy that much. You have my respect for being so patient. Congratulations on the beaten game!
A good portion of that is me leaving the game idle while I do other things… but it’s still a very long game >_< Being a completionist is a curse sometims
I know what you mean >.<

other than fata morgania I just keep checking VN I don’t want to read off a mental list whenever I read your updates >_<
thank you for reading them all such that I don’t have to \o/
I’m looking back and literally two months ago since playing Fata Morgana and reviewing maybe 6 or 7 other VNs, the only other one I liked was Lion’s Song u_u It’s ruined me…. nothing else will ever be as good…
The plus side - I think the Fata Morgana prequel will be released by the end of the year!
I’m glad you get use out of it! I feel like I have no choice - I already own the damn things, so I might as well play them. I think it’s just as valuable to know what you don’t want as when you know what you do.
