Update Sixty-Six: 19 October 2017
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
I haven’t played a hidden object game in a LONG ass time, and I really missed them, way more than I thought it would.
You play other games and get used to what they don’t have - only okay graphics and little sound design - and then you play a hidden object game. Even when it looks bad, it’s still good. And this game looks good.
I had played the first Nightmares from the Deep game and REALLY enjoyed it. It’s probably my favorite of this era of Artifex Mundi hidden object game - probably because I found the love story rather touching. This theme continues in this installment, and it’s cute!
Our story this time sets our erstwhile curator (voiced by that lady from Artifex Mundi games. It’s her again!!) on a path to help save the cursed town of Kingsmouth. A mayor has made a pact with Davy Jones and took a siren’s power, commanding the fearsome kraken and generally being a big butthead. One of his guards (who is never named) falls in love with the Siren and contacts you for your help.
The story unfolds in a predictable but charming way. There’s not any crazy new puzzles, but…. it’s comforting, it’s familiar. It’s like a beloved childhood meal you keep coming back to when you need to feel better. You like it because of what it is. And if it’s the same every time? That’s the point.
Oh! And! I was shocked at how good the 3D animation is for the three main characters. I mean, not ALL the time, but a lot of the time I was really surprised at how good and present and weighty the animation was.
Next up: RNGesus says -
See you soon!
I’ve finished the first Nightmares from the Deep games some time ago and still waiting to start this one. But I’ve got too many HOGs. Or is there such a thing as too many HOGS? Glad you liked it.
At first I was annoyed by the voice of that Artifex Mundi lady but now after a few finished HOGs I’m happy anytime I hear her in another game.
Too many HOGs in too short a time! In June I was getting burnt out on hidden object games - I think I’m going to try to keep mine to one a month or something.
I am just thrilled that everyone knows who I’m talking about! She’s certainly the best voice actress I heard in those games - there have been some REALLY bad ones.
Yay, to another Hog beaten! HOG Queen is proud! ;)
Also, while I have just now played the first: Yes, I feel the same, it’s like a safe haven, it’s comforting and nice and I’m really happy when I hear our AM Lady speaking to me :]
Have a great time down the rabbit hole!
Happy puzzle killing :)
Within the past two weeks I’ve won 3 hidden object games (one just this morning!) so I gotta play more! One day I hope to have played as many as you have.
It’s a sadly overlooked genre but I’m glad that we’ve both found it and get so much enjoyment out of it <3
Well with me having killed that many during the HOG month… I am a bit short right now.
But yes. Hogs are nice and relaxing and almost never do something totally unexpected, which is nice :D
Alice’s Patchwork is very charming. I know I’m biased because I love Wonderland even more than I love Christmas, but it’s just really, really cute.
It is so long but so cute. I’m shotgunning multple seasons’ worth of Will and Grace as I play it and I’m having a ball.
Nightmares from the Deep 2 was one of the first HOGs I played with my kids– they were three-plus at the time. We’ve played a bunch of them since. Pretty much every HOG I’ve played in the last 2-3 years (except for Adam Wolfe) was done with my little helpers. And they are finally getting to an age when they can help from time to time! :D
Glad you enjoyed it. And you made the HOG Queen proud!
I bought Alice’s Patchwork and activated it on my daughter’s account. Maybe she’ll play it some day. :)
That is so cute and adorable and I’m so glad you share gaming with your kids. I think hidden object games are great things to play with little ones - and it’ll help with thier critical thinking and math skills, too!
Maybe so! I’m enjoying it a lot. It’s a good think to paly to relax.
It’s nice to hear that you liked the game. I have never played one of the Artifex Mundi games, but many hold them in high regard…maybe I should finally try one of them.
Oh, and you taught me a word I did not know before: erstwhile. It’s a nice word :-)
If you’re interested, I’d recommend the one I first played - Enigmatis: the Ghosts of Maple Creek. It’s a good introduction to hidden object games, great production value, and is the first entry in a trilogy that culminates in my favorite HOG of all time - Enigmatis 3. The story in those games is pretty strong, and I’m very fond of them.
Oh, nice! I’m glad :D
Thank you for your recommendation. It definitely looks interesting, so I guess another game for my wishlist :-)
