Update One Hundred and Fifty-Three: 14 April 2018
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
I made a little bit of a categorization error - this isn’t quite an RPGmaker game like I thought it was! It’s much closer to a VN+. And boy, did I love it!
1bitHeart is, at its core, a friend-making simulator with a LOT of production value. I’ve played Miwashiba games before - I liked LiEat and am excited to try Alicemare - and the jump in quality, scope, and features is huge. This game features voice acting - a LOT of voice acting - and a couple dozen unique tracks of all different genres and vocals. It’s very hip, fresh, and cute.
The main story itself is… more than a little confusing, but it has enough charm that I didn’t care much. What I came here for - and what I loved the most - was the great character design and the varied, interesting people you meet. The main story is a liiiittle on the short side, but that’s augmented by the literal three-dozen characters you befriend. The more characters you befriend, the better ending you get. The characters run a wide gamut, and your rather weird protagonist has to do a lot to win their friendship! They were all varied and charming - although one character fell rather flat as a one-note fat joke (but it’s okay, you guys, she’s not REALLY fat, she just has DDD tiddies on a size four body!). On the whole I really liked getting to know everyone and taking in the absolutely appealing designs, though, and with so many different characters there’s bound to be a few that will steal your heart.
I’ve had a very…. very exhausting week, so I’ll end it here. Suffice it to say, 1bitHeart is loveable and charming enough to melt MY heart and find its way onto my Visual Novel Masterpost!.
Next up: My girlfriend has decided to sink another six months into playing nothing but Breath of the Wild. I got her attention long enough for her to pick my next game. Somehow, she picked the one I was thinking of!
See you soon!
Oh boy, now I’m even more excited about 1bitHeart! Your review makes it sound like a really cute and lovely game and if it’s cuteness similiar to LiEat, it has to be good! Thanks for heating up my motivation!
I think it is more cute than LiEat! LiEat had a bit of a fantasy creepy-cute vibe going on, and this game is more pop-future-cute, but because of how varied the characters are, you get all different kind of flavors of cute.
Seeing the jump from LiEat to 1bitHeart is really exciting, and I hope you like it just as much as I did!
Miwashiba makes really great character designs, and I love their use of color. They have a pixiv with a lot of pretty art and animation too! Of their games I only played Alicemare when it was still free and got LiEat on Steam later, they were both so good. Thanks for the review, I will put this game higher on my to buy list.
I love games like these but for some reason I didn’t enjoy LiEat that much. Maybe the story just didn’t connect with me. I liked Alicemare a little more but not by much. I’m still thinking about buying this one because it is my type of game. Thanks for the review!
I can see where you’re coming from - these games don’t connect to my heart the way other games do. It could be that there’s a lot of flash and shine but not too much depth.
This game has a lot more to offer in many more dimensions than LiEat, so I’d still recommend you pick it up, but probably in a sale if you’re still unsure. You’re very welcome, and I hope it helped a little c:
:o I am still wprking through this game myself and am loving it. The music and style in particular thus far. Glad you seemed to enjoy it enough to post it into your masterpost. I have so much to look forward to~
Yessss, I love this style! I so wish I could just 3Dprint these characters out and collect them as cute little figures because they are SO fetching.
