First game from my ABC plan. Kinetic novel from the creators of Narcissu, I was expecting this to make me end up crying, but it didn't. It's still good, though.
Chosen for me for this Challenge me! Monthly edition. What to say? Alright, it does seem bad but here are my thoughts: the vn in general could have been definitely better if only enough effort and quality were put into it. It's bad but I've seen definitely worse.
The genre of this one is the clichéd We're in a big mansion in the middle of winter surrounded by snow and the master of the house has been found dead, murdered in his own bed. Who is the culprit? There's a movie I love with this incipit, 8 femmes, but we're not here to suggest movies. Go watch it. The ending felt so random and I feel bad because at least until then the story was kinda okay.
This was clearly a first attempt at using the engine renpy and it's so embarassing. There are characters' sprites who are not fixed and change position, making them appear to jump randomly. Several critical errors and bugs appear and theyr'e hilarious.
It sucks that Steam is accepting to publish any first attempt at creating games. It sucks. How difficult could it have been to fix the game from bugs when I've done better myself with renpy when I was 15 years old? I don't understand these people who create something with the intention of publishing and selling it and then don't bother to check it...
Another Challenge me! game and also from my ABC plan. I love HOGs!! I don't play them often but it's official: it's a genre I see myself playing other than vns. Even though it looks like that they all have similar plots or puzzles, they're still of my liking.
Another Challenge me! game. I had started this over a year ago and then ended up putting it on indefinite hold. Why? I was trying to get all the achievements. I had started the game with the intention to constantly check the guide to be able to collect all the dolls and to 100% it. This was the wrong approach to this game. I'm glad that here on BLAEO we have discussed how achievement hunting can ruin the enjoyment of games. When I continued this yesterday, I decided I wouldn't care less about achievements and it was a very good decision. I'm going to remove my achievements showcase, too!
I enjoyed this game so much! The aesthetic is charming and I, who suck at video games, was able to finish it without getting stuck (there are several hints in-game). There are also wonderful silent movie-style cutscenes with classical music I had already heard but could not recognize.
I had almost forgot: here's a glorious screenshot of a doll with an explosion in the background caused by farting on fire.
- Ame no Marginal -Rain Marginal-
abc - A Detective's Novel
Mind Snares: Alice's Journey abc Stacking
who cares about achievements anymore
HoGs can be really fun. It’s really nice that you discovered a new genre you enjoy.
I also thought Rain Marginal was just okay - interesting concept but something about the execution didn’t mesh with me.
I’m glad you liked Mind Snares and Stacking - they’re two games I’m pretty fond of. Mind Snares is kind of unique in Hidden Object Games, where the vast majority is ‘solve a mystery!’ and Mind Snares is ‘escape from Alice’s brain!’ which is a type of story I really enjoy.
Stacking is just so, so, so cute and fun. It’s probably my favorite non-Psychonauts Double Fine game.
Yay, for completing three games already from the challenge! throws confetti
I agree with you on A Detective’s Novel though drop
I also agree with you on the HOG subject :D
Good luck with the rest of the challenge happy
Happy challenge me! killing :)
I’m now going to take a pause for a few days from the challenge to focus on the ABC plan and other games, otherwise I’ll finish it in two days!
That sounds good as well :)
I’m mixing everything right now pretty badly. But I try focusing on the Challenge Me! and then… I’ll see how I’ll go on :]
