Update Seventy-Seven: 10 November 2017
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
A fairly interesting and fresh concept hampered by clunky writing, Fix Me Fix You puts you in the shoes of millennial everyman Austin. He’s doing poorly in college, he’s addicted to weed and only views women as sexual conquests - I can confidently say that you know a handful of guys like this, just like I do. He is dumped by his girlfriend and is fired from his job on the same day - and then is approached by a talent manager. His high school girlfriend, who had become a pop star, suffered a mental break, cancelled all her concerts, and is requesting to see him. It’s up to him to talk to her and try to help her get well enough to perform again.
The heart of this visual novel is good, and I really appreciate how deftly things like mental health are handled in this. I’m not a big screencapper, but I had to take this one because of how raw and blatant this character was at telling the MC about himself. This game gets a full whole point just for this. Over the course of the game, the MC keeps talking with this therapist and is told ‘actually, you have depression, too’. I was glad to see they contrasted different ways depression manifests - it could be big and obvious and panic-inducing, like with the girlfriend, or just a drain on your life all the time like with the MC.
It hampers itself, though. The writing is sufficient but not interesting to read, and there’s a lot of errors. The art’s okay, and the story’s okay, but the game…. doesn’t differentiate between text you’ve read and text you haven’t, which is a very bad thing in choice-based visual novels. I ended up just straight skipping through the good route because I got what I wanted out of this game- I wasn’t going to read all the same shit AGAIN.
Not crappy, but not spectacular.
Next up: RNGesus says -
See you soon!
I can confidently say that you know a handful of guys like this
Well, your confidence is misplaced. I don’t know anyone like that because I don’t know anyone at all! AHAHAHA!!!
So on first look it seems interesting and then it doesn’t ;)
Also stupid that you can’t skip through already read things -.-
Have fun with the next one!
Happy VN killing :)
I got it from a bundle, so it’s worth it to read, like, if you get it that way or win it on steamgifts or something, I’d say.
Okay, I’ll keep an eye on it then :)
Next game’s art is so cute!!
