Would you like to read Umineko, but would you want it to be far shorter and less interesting and boringly mundane and too self-aware and obvious and also free? Detective Butler has got you covered. I understand and appreciate appreciation, but any artist worth their salt knows how to crib and not be so obtrusive about it. This game missed saying ‘turn the chessboard around’ by a hair, which is good for them because that would’ve been the straw that broke the camel’s back and let Ryukishi07 charge them for copyright infringement (and charge me for mixing my metaphors).

A competent mystery puzzle, though disappointing on the story/character side. I was really hoping this would be about a butler who also solved crimes, instead of another insufferable prick type.

The art was surprisingly good, and that’s about it. Got zero money and want an easy 100%? You’re rewarded with an achievement for literally skipping through the entire game. If you do that, though, you’ll make an angel lose their wings. Better to play a better VN.

Next up: The girlfriend demands I play one of the VNs she just got me in this Summer Sale… unaware of the fact I still have VNs she got me unplayed from the Winter Sale. RNGesus is a harsh mistress, but has nothing on Madison. wait, she’s on this site now. Love u babey!
