Update Seventy-Two: 2 November 2017
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
….
Oh boy. Okay.
So this is a visual novel where a major story beat is the main character peeing herself on her first day of nurse training, and one of the bad endings has her in a vicious BDSM relationship with her younger sister. Not to worry, though, the good ending has her just make out with her younger sister at the hospital while they’re working.
….
I really need to fucking read the steam descriptions of stuff before I buy them. Like, really read.
This visual novel is A LOT. Beyond the pissing and incest, the game jumps the tracks and it becomes less about ‘our lives learning how to be nurses’ and more ‘nearly sci-fi suspense… thing’ that felt like something straight out of a young teenager’s fanfictions. It’s all over the place, the tone is wildly inconsistent, and, oh yeah, see paragraph one.
It’s especially galling because - other than Japan’s otaku scene’s absolutely fucked up fetishization of incest which is its own thing - in the States, queer people had and still continue to fight for decades to separate the idea of homosexuality = sexual deviancy. So I end up having my cake (this cutesy VN where everyone is just gay and there is 0 deal made about it) be laced with rat poison (you fuck your little sister) and it is super not great or okay.
It’s galling because beyond all the fucked upedness there were good things here. The art is adorable, the CGs are nice, and the other three non-sister routes are varying levels of interesting and just having girlxgirl things is nice. If this visual novel focused on these young women actually learning how to be nurses and they end up falling in love with each other, it would have a LOT of good material to work with - and it’s not like it’d have to abandon the horror, if it wanted. Training to be a nurse is hard! Dealing with life or death situations is scary! It felt like the writer’s fetishes got in the way - really clumsily and really obviously.
Sometimes being a completionist can bite you in the ass, but I wanted to push through and see what, if any, redeeming factors there could be. Short answer: unless this is the last yuri vn on earth, you’ll find better (NON INCESTUAL! LET ME DIE HERE!) content literally anywhere else.
Jesus god there are some real fucked up things in this genre. tsupertsundere: playing the weird ones so you don’t have to.
Next up: please god please be good please god please be good please god please be good
See you soon!
I’m looking forward to your thoughts on The Silver Case, it’s been on my wishlist for a long time:)
I’m excited to play it, too! I’m a liiittle hesitant because I’m not a super big SUDA51 fan - if I want a weird Japanese developer with numbers in his name I’m already Team SWERY65 all day every day. But I like detective stories like this and the art style reminds me of Hotel Dusk which I loved. I think I’ll start playing it now!
hahahah I had no idea they were sisters… damn
Well… really sisters as in siblings? Not sisters as in sister nurse? That is a “bit” awkward then I guess. Although I confess I had a Fred and George Ship going for quite a while hide And YES, I sometimes like queer incest stories hides some more :]
Also: you can’t really stop us from making (the same) mistake (with this one) :] :D
Thanks for the effort to stop us though :D
Have a great with… Silvercase? Not sure if I got that one right, but looks like it :]
Hapy backlog killing :)
make out with her younger sister at the hospital while they’re working.

( ⊙ _ ⊙)
I wasn’t expecting to read that sentence today. xD
Anyway, congrats on beating it and have fun with the next game.
That is sad to read, I had it on wishlist since forever, but I can now wait for it to be bundled or not bother with it I guess…
Honestly, if you ignore the entire ‘sister’ thing (oh, and there’s another ‘horror twist’ in another of the route’s bad ends that’s tame in comparison) my review would be ‘cotton candy cute’ - like, it’s sweet but nothing that will particularly impact you. I think your plan is the best one.
