Update One Hundred and Sixty-Eight: 6 April 2018
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
Uuuuugh. Okay, the rest of the day has not fared so well with gaming. First I tried to run Griptape Backbone - no dice. Since I was kind of meh on the idea of the game in general, I just gave up and removed the license - no sense having it clog up my ‘won’t play’ pile. I wanted to try again with MONITOR but…
Oh, god, I still have residual eyestrain from this game, and I wasn’t even LOOKING at it for that long. I don’t normally get eyestrain from non-3D games, but jesus christ was this overloaded with glitchy screen effects.
This is a university student project and holy fuck does it SHOW. An interface game poorly made and badly acted, MONITOR tasks you with (you guessed it) monitoring six guests at a hotel retreat. Why? Who gives a shit! You were kidnapped and are forced to!
The conversations happen in real time, so you MUST sit through the shitty, shitty acting. Each day takes… I don’t know, twenty minutes, maybe, to sit through, but it was so painful I just couldn’t complete even a full three-day runthrough. It’s just bad. Of course, just as I was getting my achievement percentage where I want it again, I’m forced to deal it an awful blow - but I can’t sit through this.
Next up: Another freebie/sequel/prequel! I wonder if the devs have improved any?
See you soon!
I played both Scrap Garden: The Day Before and the “full” Scrap Garden game, and although I enjoyed both, the “full” game was better in my opinion :)
Ouch, the Monitor game sure sounds like a huge pain in the back! Sorry to hear that, it’s a real bummer to come across such a terrible game :/
The Day Before is VERY VERY short! I was surprised at how short. I’m endeared to these games regardless so it was nice to see Canny again in any event.
I wouldn’t mind taking chances on crappy, crappy games if they didn’t hit my percentage so hard @_@ At the very least it’s out of my backlog, though.
True, it’s super-short. In fact, I thought that The Day Before was just sort of a “demo” for the Scrap Garden, but then I found out that Scrap Garden was released before The Day Before so it blew my mind :D
And yeah, I hear you about bad games screwing up the percentage. Personally I don’t care that much, but it annoys me a little too.
Never heard of Monitor. Sounds like a game to check out on my alt account (where I don’t care about achievements) and maybe play on a TV which might address the eyestrain issues.
Scrap Garden TDB is a really small game. The real Scrap Garden is much better, IMO.
It particularly hit all my NO buttons because there’s nothing really to do in the game except choose what room to listen to, and then sit and listen. This drives me crazy!!! I need to be clicking or doing SOMETHING with my hands.
There’s promise, but the execution is SO POOR that I’d really rather just play any of the other interface games I’ve played. It’s zero-risk, so give it a shot. The eyestrain issues might be made worse on a TV, esp if its big, bc it’s mostly the flashing/glitching effects over and over.
oh man it IS a small game - I nearly finished it last night but I decided to try today to get through it without getting hurt. I’m going to procrastinate as long as I can so I don’t spam the feed!
Yeah, we wouldn’t want anybody thinking it was a tsuperbug or anything. =)
I also tried the “don’t
dietake damage” achievement but I gave up after about 45 minutes. Also, if you want to play games without worrying about achievements (and your profile percentage), just create an alt account. I finally did that and activated a bunch of keys on it (61 games to date!). That said, I’ve only actually played 2-3 games from it, and only for a few hours each. :p
GODDDDDDDDDDD
I’ll think about it, but there’s something about it that I don’t think works for me. Like, I’ll complain about my percentage… but I want to keep everything localized. I want the full tapestry of my steam gaming experience. Is that dumb? Does that make sense?
