Update One Hundred and Six: 30 December 2017
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
All right, I’m good w/this. I’ve done about three runthroughs of Deathless: the City’s Thirst and I want to put it down before I get sick of it.
Like all of the Choice of Games, this is a 1:1 translation of a traditional choose-your-own-adventure book. No pictures, just words, your imagination, and a stat page. It keeps it different than other VNs, but I wish the studio would bring in some quality of life features from more standard VNs.
Like saveslots! for the love of god please let me save my game. The big drawback with these types of games is you can do exactly one runthrough. Fuck up a choice? Misclick? Tough, play it to the end or start over. It makes it a chore to explore the different routes these games have to offer, and this game is more disparate than most.
So, the City’s Thirst is set in the same world as Choice of the Deathless, but has no relation to that storyline. Which, you know, fair. But that was such a fun and tight thriller, while this game is much more all over the place. None of the characters are particularly strong or stand out, and while the writing is lavish and lovely it can veer into purple prose territory very fast.
I’ll revisit this someday to get more achievements, but it’s another one for the ‘beaten’ column. Sorry for the kind of disjointed review - I stayed up until 5 am playing Dangan Ronpa V3 and didn’t get a full night’s sleep. It’s hard to write good reviews when you’re struggling to not succumb to a nap…
Next up: I’ve heard good things about this one. Let’s play it after my nap
See you soon!
HMP was really good for a free vn…and thats about it >.>
Its better than loads and loads of trash that try to get you to buy it but at the same time its nothing notworthy idk
I’ve seen reviews on here that are very positive - but it’s good to keep my expectations in the right place. And I do love playing free shit that’s better quality than stuff I’ve bought in the past.
Also: robots. god am I weak to robots
