Update Two Hundred and Twenty-Two: 7 September 2018
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
The Inner World has been around for a while - so much so that its own sequel is a couple years old now - but I put off playing it because, at first, I thought it looked really hokey. The strange snowmen-people (they’re not, they just remind me of snowmen) looked visually unappealing, and there are some point and clicks I ignore because I think they’re going to be annoying.
I couldn’t have been more wrong.
This is a really cute, really nicely-done point and click. The animation looks like it’s been done in flash, which is a very nostalgic style for me. I also, shocker, really liked the main character. Robert is just very sweet and kind, and his voice actor hit a delicate balance between earnest, soft-spokenness, and just a touch of moxy that worked really well to endear me to the character. His prickly companion Laura makes the salty-sweet combo worked, and I, of course, appreciate big ol’ bitches.
Some of the puzzles are, shall we say, pretty kooky, and there’s a touch more backtracking in some chapters than I’d like, but it’s an entertaining game beginning to end. Something light-hearted and cartoony enough to play with children, but with a decent level of depth to a story that isn’t incredibly wildly out there or truth-telling, told well all the same.
I’m going to put the sequel in the highest tier of my wishlist - I’m very excited to visit Asposia once again sometime in the future!
Next up: I just won this game this morning, and as it’s an ‘Actually Playing Games’ giveaway, it’s time to play it! Let’s get SAD.
See you soon!
inner world was great
I played through it with my sister-I’ve found I enjoy point and click games alot more playing with someone else cause when I start getting tired of trying everything with everything else I can toss the mouse to her and have a different viewpoint solve the puzzle so we can progress
That’s a really good point, and I like playing skill-based games with Madison for the same reason.
Did you play the sequel? I hope it’s just as good.
no -and I moved out over a year ago so I only play stuff with sis when I go to visit her.
we started broken age when I dropped in a few days ago so thats the ongoing game now. :3
I feel ya, I’ve put off so many P&Cs especially because of the art style (including this one). They don’t even look bad imo, just not immediately eye-catching with the older look to ‘em. But after watching the trailer, the animations and voices do look pretty great. Always nice when a game proves you wrong! Congrats, hope Indygo is as engaging as it looks.
Unfortunately, it is as engaging as it looks - which is not very much. Review incoming!
Thank you for your comment, as always c:

I’ve never seen this one before, looks quite fun! I rarely play point n’ click adventures and I get easily baffled with the ones that use absurd puzzle logic, so the help system shown in the game trailer sounds very welcome. Thanks for the review!
Oh yeah, the help system is really nice! It gives you several ‘layers’ of hints until eventually they just give you the solution, and there’s no penalty or cooldown timer.
I’m glad you enjoyed it c:
For an achievement completionist, technically there’s penalty.
That’s one of the thing I dislike about me being a achievement hunter, is that sometimes I can’t enjoy games freely and as it is, in the most natural way a person would play it. But it is the price I have to pay for being a completionist. >.<
Ah man, that’s true, doy.
I get that sentiment… though I find I just prefer working with guides, even when achievements aren’t in the picture.
This game’s voice acting is great. Very well done and distinctive and makes me love each character in their own way. :3 I do agree that back tracking is quite annoying indeed. :P
Definitely! Some characters spoke too slow, so I skipped their dialogue, but I really liked Robert and Laura’s voices (though I can’t place Laura’s accent). They definitely helped make the game as nice as it was.
