Update Fifty-Three: 19 September 2017
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
Continuing the proud tradition of ‘interface games’ like Her Story and Orwell, A Normal Lost Phone has you navigating a, well, a normal lost phone.
The phone is abandoned, and unlocked, and you happened to pick it up. Who does it belong to, so you can give it back?
Like other interface games, the main thrust of the game is discovery so I won’t delve into that too much - that takes the joy away. What I will tell you is that it is a short, sweet, lovely proof of concept game to spend about an hour or two with. It reminds me a lot of Emily is Away in the sense that it was a first pass at something that a spirital or direct sequel will continue (A Normal Lost Phone had its sequel announced last month).
You hop between apps in an interesting, organic way, the interface is smooth, and the art is lovely. There’s an original soundtrack of about a dozen and a half of songs, some better than others. I love indie, but these tend toward the twee in a way that just made me pause the in-game music player and listen to my own (less twee) stuff.
Right as I was about to write this, BLAEO user LinusTheBold commented on my last post and said that they had been keeping an eye on this game - if you’re interested in it already, I’d say pick it up. It’s not a magnificent work of art that I think those who don’t already want it should look at it again, but if you’re already curious, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
Next up: RNGesus wants me to play a little something I got as a Christmas present, long, long ago -
See you soon!
EDIT: WOW WAY TO JUST…… COMPLETELY FUCK UP THE TITLE, ME. THIS GAME IS NOT SCRAP GARDEN
Aaaaaa you make so many updates and I’m over here still working on h of my ABC
I got spoiled a bit for this one unfortunately while skimming the reviews and there were some really salty people, but it’s still on my WL and has me intrigued! Glad you enjoyed it. :)
A Normal Lost Phone was a cool game. The sequel is releasing tomorrow IIRC. Laura’s Story.
I’ll +1 LinusTheBold’s comment. It’s even on my (relatively small) wishlist. I lost a GA of it with 7 entries and another with 39 entries. (and yes, I know that my odds of winning one of those was still quite small) ;-) But it looked like a cute premise.
