Second update.

My backlog attack took an unexpected turn. After recent Sony’s E3 press conference I want PS4 again :( I won’t buy it any time soon but there are a lot of PS exclusives that I’ve always wanted to play: Uncharted, The Last of Us, God of War, Beyond: Two Souls… to name a few.
This is when I remembered that my old Xbox 360 is also waiting for me :o Guilt took over and I decided to play some console games.

Beyond
Beyond Good and Evil.
I love this one. One of my favorite games ever. Played it ages ago when it was released. HD remastered version is only available on consoles. Still holds up well. Story is nice and sweet. Characters are likable. Gameplay is a good combination of action, stealth, semi-open world exploration, racing and treasure hunting.
AC:B
Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood
I am way behind when it comes to AC franchise but so far I haven’t skipped any. Finished AC1 and 2 not too long ago. Now finally got a chance to play Brotherhood. It feels exactly like AC2 and I had plenty of fun with it. I was planning on skipping the next couple of games and jumping straight to Black Flag and Rogue since I own them already and I’m missing all other games in the series but since Brotherhood ends with such a cliffhanger I will probably buy and play AC Revelations instead xD
MGS2
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
I am not a MGS fan since I’ve never had a change to actually play any of the games. After everything that happened between Konami and Kojima I decided now is the time to buy HD collection and actually play at least some of the games in the series. This game was originally released 15 years ago. It was released for PC as well, my friend used to own it. Try to find a copy now. Used ones are ~$50 and I saw new copies for $100+ and I am pretty sure it won’t work on Win 7 or 10.
Getting into the game was hard. Controls are just atrocious (to shoot: hold Right Bumper for 1st person view, press left stick to draw a weapon, aim with the same left stick and press X to shoot. I guess Left Trigger + Right Trigger combination would be too easy). I thought I would run through the game quickly on easy just for the story. The game is split into 2 parts (Tanker and Plant). I finished first part in less than 2 hours and thought this game was short as fk. Nope. Second part took me over 10 hours and man I enjoyed the hell out of them. Story is borderline crazy, characters are comical, and cut scenes are often 20-30 minutes long. The whole game feels like a movie or a TV show that you just cannot stop watching. Actually, no, it’s better than a movie or a tv show. I loved it. Thank you, Kojima. I am a fan now :)

Here’s my two cents
Uncharted and the last of us are MUST PLAYS. I don’t have a PS4 either but luckily I have friends who do :D. If you don’t have access to a PS4 through friends, don’t rush into getting one either. In my eyes the price of the PS4 and all the exclusives are still not entirely worth it. SO maybe once there are more exclusives and the price of the PS4 drops even more. Also, if you can play the original uncharted games rather than the remastered versions, I found the new graphics very very weird and disturbing.

About Assassin’s Creed, if you want to save the franchise’s dignity in your eyes, don’t play any game after Revelations. I’ve finished AC3, played a little of Syndicate and some other AC game I forgot its name. They add nothing to the story and is just a waste of time imo. But AC2-ACRevelations are well worth it!
btw this is just my opinion on the matter, other people may have other thoughts on the matter

The spoiler above was only about AC, you should definitely play uncharted

I don’t have friends in general, let alone friends with PS4 ;_; Yeah, I am definitely not buying PS4 this year and with new version coming out this winter prices on the original one should drop. Games are also only getting cheaper :)
From what I heard Black Flag is really good and I already have it so I will play it and I won Rogue on SG so it’s must play for me as well :)
Thank you for your suggestions!

My advice is don’t skip any of the AC games!! I’m a diehard fan of the series but I have to say Revelations is almost the weakest entry in the series (the weakest entry is obviously Unity, which full disclaimer I haven’t played yet), but it’s still very good. AC3 and AC4 are amazing games as well, and apparently Rogue is pretty good too. Don’t listen to the people that hate on AC3, it’s so underrated and in my opinion it has the best story in the series (except the modern day ending). It’s a must-play and my overall favorite game. Seriously I can’t stress enough how much of a hidden gem AC3 is. Plus if you care at all about the modern day story you have to play it, since it wraps up Desmond’s story. Sorry if I’m coming on as aggressive here, it’s just always very disappointing when people skip titles for games just because some people didn’t like them. Always at least give it a try before you skip it :)

I’d rather play it on PC but both Revelations and AC3 are $10 on sale which is a bit much :( BUT I found them at my local Gamestop for xbox for $2.99 each which is a steal in my opinion so I am picking both of them up tomorrow.
Since I played the first 3 games I do want to know how Ezio’s and Desmond’s story ends. I will play them both. Thank you :)

Ahh that’s a shame, AC3 is beautiful on PC with max settings but on console the graphics are a bit meh :/ 2.99 is a steal though so that’s totally worth it.

No worries! And Connor has a good, tragic story too, hopefully you’ll enjoy it :)

dk

Yes, graphics are definitely meh on console but you stop noticing it after an hour or two (at least I do). And Gamestop got me with their promo buy 2 get 1 free. Cannot say no to 3 games (two of which are AC games) for ~$6 total :3
Have a good weekend :)

I’m also getting a PS4 at some point, but at the moment there aren’t so many new titles and exclusives that I’d want to play right now so there’s no hurry. I’ve been thinking about an idea of reaching a certain percentage of finished games on Steam, after which I’ll allow myself to buy the new console. :D Would be a nice extra motivator for clearing the backlog.

I agree with Shax, Uncharted series and The Last of Us are games that can be recommended for many different gamers, they are exceptional games in their respective genres. Beyond: Two Souls is a kind of a hit-and-miss, not everyone likes the idea but I loved playing that game. Quantic Dream’s next title, Detroit: Become Human will be their next title, and the first that’s originally released on PS4.

I’ve been on the fence with the Metal Gear Solid Collection, but I’m afraid how difficult it would be to get into the series anymore, because I don’t like playing very old games that have very clunky controls. I’m pretty sure I would enjoy the gameplay of the newer titles, but then I’d miss a whole lot of the backstory. Maybe I’ll read the synopsis of the original PS1 games and jump to MGS 4..

dk

Reaching a certain percentage of finished games is a great idea! I will probably do the same :)

I love Telltale titles and those “interactive story” kind of games so I am pretty sure I’ll enjoy Beyond. I want to play Heavy Rain as well. Actually I don’t know if these games are available on PS4. I need to check. Maybe getting PS3 when it’s dirt cheap and PS4 few years after that would be a better idea since I don’t really buy new games anyway. Detroit looks very intriguing. I hope it won’t disappoint.

I was worried about MGS too but it didn’t disappoint. You get used to controls eventually and if you are struggling, I’d recommend playing on Easy and never worry about anything. I only died a couple of times and it was never frustrating. From what I heard controls are better on PS3 but I don’t remember what was the difference between Xbox and PS versions. That only applies to collection I have MGS2, MGS3 and Peace Walker since original games are not available for Xbox or PC as far as I know.

There is a Heavy Rain & Beyond: Two Souls Collection for PS4, it says the games have been visually upgraded but I don’t know how big of a difference it has to the originals. I played both games back on PS3 and both of them looked great in my opinion. But it’s already been over 5 years from the original release of Heavy Rain so it probably looks a lot better on PS4.

In this case I will go with PS4 whenever I decide to buy it as long as the games I want to play are available on that platform (I know that Uncharted and The Last of Us were remastered for PS4 as well). Maybe Sony will work on backwards compatibility to add older PS3 games too. MS brought quite a lot of titles from Xbox 360 to Xbox One.

uguleley

A lot of people wish for backwards compatibility but I don’t see it happening, given Sony’s history. It’s a feature that was dropped from later PS3 versions and PS4 doesn’t have it at all. It’s a shame, really. Hopefully Microsoft keep adding titles to put the pressure on Sony so they would make it happen. :)
