Goat Beats Backlog: Xmas Edition
ISSUE 2 (Dec 2016)
HAPPY HOLIDAYS
I have loads of unfinished games . Partly because consistency is not my strong suit, but mostly because for many years I had been moving between two places and using 3 different computers. Even with cloud saves it was hard for me to continue playing a game after switching computers and even harder to get back to it after spending few weeks elsewhere. Since I'm going away for holidays I don't want to begin any bigger titles (Tyranny!) and risk adding them to the unfinished pile. Hence, I concentrated on games I could finish in barely few hours total.
More importantly, I'd like to wish you a warm and happy holidays.
P.S. Poke a goat
Moving pictures
I have to admit that at first I struggled with That Dragon, Cancer. I guess it felt a bit too abstract for my taste and was not fun to play. But it shouldn't be and is not meant to be. This game is a story. A very personal one. It took a while for this to sink in, but once it did... Well, it will be hard to forget.
Beat one, get one free
It took me almost 4 years to finish this game. I got it on the brink of 2013 and finally beaten it with 2017 just around the corner. I started it over several times and something always interrupted my every previous attempt. Ultimately I decided to purchase the Redux version and give it another go. It took me nearly 2 months to finish this 10 hour game, but the journey is finally over. And I get to chalk off 2 games instead of one.
As for the game itself, its fun. A fast-paced shooter with a old school feel to it. I just wish I had finished it on my first try, back when it was kind of a novelty. And I shouldn't have been so ambitious with difficulty setting. I played the original campaign on a highest difficulty (4th), but for the Exile expansion I switched to normal (2nd). Soft Reset was probably a bit too easy, but definitely much more enjoyable.
Forgettable
It's an okay physics-based puzzle game. Well, it's hardly a puzzle game since only 2 levels out of 60 available pose some challenge, but it's mildly fun and relaxing.
Supposedly there's a free 30-level browser and mobile version, although one requires Opera/FireFox with Unity Web Player and the other isn't available in my country.
I really want to play That Dragon, Cancer one day. It feels like it’s one of those games that should be played by everyone. Congratulations on finishing these games and happy holidays :)
That’s a really cute goat!
Thanks for reminding about That Dragon, Cancer. I wishlisted it this time so I don’t forget it again. It’s a game I don’t want to look into yet, but I do want to play it somewhere in the future.
Happy holidays!
P.S. I poked the goat, it gave me a dirty look.
I really want to try That Dragon, Cancer. I remeber one of TB’s videos about it. Hope you enjoy Tyranny, I had a great time with it. It’s the best rpg I played this year.
P.S:
I reviewed Tyranny last month. Good game that could’ve benefited from tighter combat and less railroading at the very end.
Have a great holiday, as well.
Your post style is on point :D
I read something similar about Hard Reset Redux… it is way easier than the original (also, I read some negative stuff, most about a sword (don’t even know what sword they were talking about - just own and played the original).
Congrats with all the progress, and oh man, your posts are so nice to read… loved your style… Tried something similar and I just broke my html hahahah
Happy holidays and new year in advance ;3
And here comes the Goat with its beautifully formated post again! :D Seriously though, moving between 3 different PCs would probably kill my mood to continue playing the games as well O.o Enjoy your holidays and have a happy new year (looking forward to that Tyranny update when you’re back hehe)!
P.S., poking a goat was fun! ;)
