Week #1 (April 3 - 9, 2017)

I’ve enjoyed my first week here on BLAEO and managed to feel extra motivated to deal with my backlog. Learning how this site works by reading guides and posts by other members also took some time, but it was fun and interesting. I just wish I could post such lengthy and well-written reviews / progress reports myself, but oh well…
But enough of my rambling, let’s get down to business:

Beaten / Completed

  • Désiré
    Désiré

    4 hours playtime

    no achievements

  • The Last Dream: Developer's Edition
    The Last Dream: Developer's Edition

    4 hours playtime

    13 of 13 achievements

  • Time Mysteries: Inheritance - Remastered
    Time Mysteries: Inheritance - Remastered

    3 hours playtime

    10 of 10 achievements

  • Crime Secrets: Crimson Lily

    3 hours playtime

    24 of 24 achievements

  • Dark Arcana: The Carnival
    Dark Arcana: The Carnival

    3 hours playtime

    13 of 19 achievements

  • The Pit And The Pendulum
    The Pit And The Pendulum

    2 hours playtime

    no achievements

All of these were such short games that it doesn’t feel like such a huge accomplishment to have beaten them all in my first week. I mean, The Pit and the Pendulum took me a mere 20 minutes to finish (after which I just waited for my card drops).

Currently playing

  • Kentucky Route Zero
    Kentucky Route Zero

    4 hours playtime

    no achievements

  • Grim Legends: The Forsaken Bride
    Grim Legends: The Forsaken Bride

    2 hours playtime

    3 of 24 achievements

I could have sworn that I beat Grim Legends: The Forsaken Bride a long time ago since the game is extremely familiar but the achievement progress tells a different story. Anyone know if achievements can reset on their own?

Upcoming

  • Stardew Valley
    Stardew Valley

    0 minutes playtime

    0 of 40 achievements

As I’ve picked such short games for this month’s must-play list, I decided to start playing Stardew Valley very shortly. Not sure if I can manage to beat it before the month is over, but I’ll give it my best. :D

Good luck with Stardew, it’s on my backlog and I know I couldn’t finish it in a month! :)

Seretti

Thanks, and yeah… seems the game is quite a bit longer than friends told me, seeing that I’m aiming for completionist, instead of just rushing through it. Should have done more research before writing this post. xD

Congrats on your first backlog killing here!! Stardew valley is an amazing game. It will take a lot of time to finish, but it was totally worth it for me.

Seretti

Thank you! I haven’t been a fan of these kinds of games in the past, and I didn’t care much for Stardew Valley either, up until recently when I looked up some gameplay videos. It just has this special thing about it and I couldn’t resist to enter some giveaways for it. I got lucky and won it, and now I’m hoping that I will enjoy all those 100+ hours I’m planning to pour into the game.

You are about to embark on a wonderful, magical journey.

Belmas

Welcome to BLAEO :)

Stardew Valley is a wonderful game and I just beat it last week. Get ready to get a lot of your free time consumed.

As to Grim Legends, I don’t think achievements reset (unless the developer decides to change them?) but maybe they were added after you beat the game the first time. That has happened to me before, most recently with Baldur’s Gate.

Hey, welcome aboard. I’m always on the lookout for Stardew Valley opinions.

Anyone know if achievements can reset on their own?

Not unless you use SAM or something to reset them. Or devs fiddled with the game entry on their end. Maybe they added achievements later on at some point?

Stardew is a great game, I’ve got most of the achievements in ~50h, only missing the more grindy ones. If you wanna beat it in a month, it’s doable, but you need to plan a bit. Read the wiki or watch a video and pay attention to stuff like birthdays and other timed stuff. Also some QoL mods that I highly recommend are: easy fishing (fishing minigame is boring, time consuming and requires good reflexes.), calendar everywhere, scythe farming and bag organizer. None of them blocks any achievements and make the game a lot more fun and a lot less time consuming imo. Good luck!
Also, gratz on finishing all those games :)

Seretti

Thanks! I honestly had no idea that mods even existed for this game. The ones you recommend sound very helpful and I will immediately take a look at them.

Nexus has a lot of good mods. You can even change your horse for a ponyta and your dog/cat for a pikachu. Some new portraits are a lot better than the originals too.

As others have said, don’t rush Stardew Valley, it’s much too great of a game to go for achievements and move on. The depth really surprised me, as playing this game took up most of my August & September.

Seretti

That sounds great! As I haven’t added Stardew Valley into any of my monthly batches, I feel like I can take all the time in the world to discover everything the game has to offer. Friends kept telling me that the game is like 40-50 hours, which is why I thought I might be able to finish within a couple of weeks by spending ALL my free time on it. Turns out that it’s at least 3 times as long, according to HowLongToBeat, so I’ll probably spend a few months playing Stardew Valley (starting tomorrow. Yay!!). :D

Hopefully it hasn’t been too hyped up for you. I had minimal expectations going into it so that may have lead to higher satisfaction.
