Gameplay Summary

As the new year started, I had plans to make some great progress on my games, even beginning with a longer game so I could make some progress on something other than short games or multiplayer games. However, due to a variety of reasons, I did not manage to make much progress early in the month, and I spent most of the month without playing at all. Fortunately, I was able to close out the month with a completion.

Completed: Tick Tock: A Tale for Two

This month, I completed Tick Tock with my mom. We spent a couple evenings working on it, and it was fun until closer to the end. The first couple chapters were reasonable, and we were able to work through the puzzles on our own. However, when we got the last chapter, the puzzles significantly ramped up in difficulty, and we ended up using a guide to beat it. The ending was also a bit of a disappointment. I am glad I played it, and I did mostly enjoy it, but it is not one of my favorites.

In Progress Completion: THE GAME OF LIFE 2

At the beginning of the month, my mom and I spent some time playing Game of Life, which was fun. The achievements are a bit grindy, but since we both enjoy the game, it’s not bothersome. I was able to unlock an additional three achievements, and I’m making progress toward more of them. The best part about this month was finding out you can take as many loans as you need, so I almost got to test what happens when you get a negative score. Maybe some day I will find out, and I can take a screenshot when I do.

In Progress Completion: The Jackbox Survey Scramble

This month we played another round of Survey Scramble during a game day with a couple friends. No new achievements were earned, but it was still fun.

In Progress: Day of the Tentacle Remastered

I am having fun with this game I was selected for Play or Pay. It is a fun point and click, and I am trying to work my way through without using any guides. The game has a lot of great tongue in cheek humor, and it is interesting trying out the time travel mechanics by passing items back and forth in unique ways. My only gripe so far is that the game does not shut down properly, so I have to reboot my system when I leave the game.

In Progress: Mega Man Legacy Collection

This game quickly taught me how terrible I am at retro platformers. I started playing the first Mega Man game in the collection, and it is turning out to be significantly more difficult than I thought it would be. I spent half an hour trying to beat the first level, but made little to no progress. Some of the enemies are a nightmare to defeat, and my understanding is they are easy ones to beat relative to later enemies. I will need a lot more practice to figure it out.

Oh yeah as you 2nd picker I am happy that you like DOTTR, I remember playing it when it first came out (I actually think I have it on cd somewhere ) I am sorry that Mega Man is rough, I can’t remember much about MM than when I played it on… I think the old nintendo? And I was a kid so I have no idea how hard it really is… Still hope it can bring some fun :D

Yeah, I am having a good time with DOTTR. I’ll give some more time to MM later, but I needed a break from the frustration lol. It’s one of those games that needs some practice.

Then I think I am happy that I do not own that game, I am not good with those at all.

Have you tried Full Throttle, Monkey Island and more of the same genre games as DOTTR?

greatmastermario

Not many, though I have played Broken Sword - Shadow of the Templars

I started playing the first Mega Man game

Don’t forget that it may be better to start with a later Mega Man game and go back afterward (it’s not like those games have a particularly complex plot that’ll be spoiled by playing them out of order). IIRC the first two Mega Men are the hardest and 5 is the easiest one.

the first level

Which one? I know a lot of speedrunner-types like to go after Bomb Man first, but Bomb Man’s power sucks, so I always go after Guts Man first because he can easily be defeated by just standing back and shooting (only jumping after a rock gets tossed at you), and because you need his power to get the Magnet Beam in Elec Man’s stage–which is required to beat the game (and that way you don’t have to play his level twice). Sure, it’s tough to avoid getting stunned by Guts Man’s earthquakes, but as long as you stay by the entrance and don’t even try to dodge them, you’ll recover in enough time to jump over the rocks he’ll throw at you (the thing that’ll actually deal damage).
