Time for my first update.
So far I’ve finished 48 games this year and I am proud of it! >:D
Here are the last 3 that I consider beaten:
Ryse: Son of Rome
Won this on SG about a month ago. Started playing it right away. It’s a short game (about 7 hours). It felt too short to be honest so I decided to replay it on highest difficulty to get extra achievements :3 I rarely play singleplayer twice but it felt right this time and I actually enjoyed it more on the 2nd playthrough. Fighting felt more solid on “Legendary” since you are forced to be more precise with your blocks and counters. I would spend more time playing multiplayer but sadly it’s mostly dead. It takes forever to find a partner.
Overall I enjoyed Ryse quite a bit. There was nothing groundbreaking but gameplay was fun, story and visuals were very good.
Kholat
“The most terrifying journey of your life set in the beautiful winter scenery of the Ural Mountains. Uncover the horrific mystery behind the Dyatlov Pass Incident. Narrated by the famous Sean Bean.”
Another SG win that I finished the same week I won it. I’ve seen a couple of documentaries about Dyatlov Pass incident so I was very excited to play this game. Kholat is a walking simulator with a couple of scary moments. There is not much going on. You just walk around and collect notes. The game looks very good (built on UE4) and music was great but SPOILERS: story falls flat and the ending is a complete joke. This game could have been much better. It almost felt like the developer gave up or ran out of ideas. I enjoyed playing Kholat, it is very atmospheric but I expected more.
I uploaded a gameplay video today if anyone is interested:
The Grandfather
I got this game from a friend. It is extremely short (about 30 minutes) so I played right away. I have no idea how to describe it. Art is creepy, “story” is weird, sounds are deafening. But -1 game in my backlog :D
Thanks for the update on Kholat, had it in my SG backlog for a while but was a bit scared … now I think it’s probably not as scary as I thought … I’ll try to play it soon :)
No, it’s not that scary. Definitely not as scary as Slender: The Arrival at least (I still need to finish that one D:).
Kholat is short too. You can probably finish it in 4 hours. I just spent extra time walking around, looking for remaining collectibles.
I actually had a lot of fun with Ryse. I remember when it first came out it got bashed for being boring but I thought the story was engaging enough to pull the gameplay up, however I can’t deny the gameplay is a bit shallow.
Everything besides actual fighting (controlling your troops, using scorpio crossbow thingy, etc) seemed forced and unnecessary. And I wish there were more enemy types or at least skins. Sometimes it felt like I was fighting a clone army :P
Rather than that it’s a good game :)
