195 PERFECT GAMES AND 95% ACHIEVEMENT COMPLETION REACHED!

Before I start saying anything about my progress I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Coraline Castell for revamping the look of my profile. The previous look was extremely bland and I shied away from adding extra information as it was becoming a massive wall of text. Some weeks ago Coraline and I started talking about our BLAEO updates/profiles and how we could improve them. When I started talking about my vision for the look of my profile, the next thing I know immediately after talking about it she came up with the current look and we worked on from there to improve it with right colours and images. I still can't believe the way it looks. My head can't grasp code writing and when I envision something in my head, I always think it's impossible to do. It's unbelievable to me the magic that a code writer can make. Thank you so much Coraline <3 It still feels surreal that you took like 2 days of your hard earned summer vacation after dealing with very hectic studies to make this happen even though you absolutely didn't have to. I will drool over this forever :D

Chronicles of an Illidan Fangirl

I already have a pretty small backlog. I bought some games from the summer sale. Generally they are DLCs that I wanted to have for completion attempts or at least earning as many achievements as I could possibly earn. I even had a strategy in mind. Originally I was gonna complete Alekhine's Gun, then Virginia and then The Book of Unwritten Tales Critter Chronicles. Towards the end of the update, you can find the tiny progress I made in the tabs. However, everything had to be put on hold because of one factor: WORLD OF WARCRAFT. Those who know me are already aware of how much of an importance Warcraft has in my life and my avatar is enough to show that I'm a massive Illidan fan, a pretty impactful and important character in Warcraft lore. I have played Warcraft games since the age of 8 or so and read pretty much all the novels related to the game. As much as I don't like MMO, I still went into WoW when it was released like 15 years ago now. I played pretty much nonstop for about 5 years, being a very hardcore raider at the time as an offtank for my guild. After the initial 5 years, I continued to play the game more casually on and off with breaks here and there. Sometimes these breaks would take a year.

Pretty much the same story again. I took a break from the game roughly about the current month we are in last year. An important patch was released in the game recently and Blizzard gifted a promotional 7 days of game time to inactive players. I was an inactive player so as soon as I saw this promotion, I activated my gametime and delved right into it. Oh my oh my oh my. I missed it so much mortal words can't possibly express this. Legion expansion has already arguably the best lore in the entire game and it has tons of Illidan. It is MY EXPANSION!!! Playing it again, being a part of the grand scheme of things, doing quests for Illidan, fighting Burning Legion armies side by side with Illidan and everything else... It made me feel... alive... again. I even unlocked Warglaives of Azzinoth (Illidan's weapons) as appearance for my Demon Hunter. I won't say much more about Warcraft because believe me once I get going, I won't shut up. It would result in this post taking up the entire feed or even the world itself. But before I move on to other topics, three final words: FOR THE HORDE!

I found a way to add screenshots from WoW to Steam. So I was constantly sharing these screenshots as status updates. Sadly screenshots from non Steam games don't appear on feed so you need to manually add them and you can only add two thumbnails per status update so I was spamming the feed with constant screenshots. I guess some of my friends got affected by it. When I mentioned that my promotional game time was about the end, I had my friends literally come rushing to offer gifting me subscriptions. I love you guys all, truly. Of course I turned down these offers but I still ended up receiving prepaid codes :/ So now I have a total of 3 months of subscription, the first one ending in 6 days. I guess I can say goodbye to Steam for an additional 2 months :D I'm going through some serious family health related issues right now and being a part of the Warcraft universe has offered me so much needed comfort, distraction and solace. Again, thank you to my wonderful friends whether they bought the codes or offered to buy them or accompanied me on voice chat by listening to my endless Illidan related blabbering (best form of distraction) or talked me through it all. You guys are what make me believe in friendship and what keep me going during these trying times through your support in all sorts of shapes and forms.

Speaking of fangirling. I have a question for all the deadly assassins of BLAEO. There was a time when someone completely refused to even acknowledge my opinions because I was a self admitted fangirl. The topic was Heroes of the Storm and the character in question was Illidan. There was a pretty friendly debate as to how he could be improved or balanced, where he falls under the meta and so on. As soon as this person found out about me being an Illidan fangirl, everything I said started becoming ignored and he said he won't waste time with me because of it. It completely killed the awesome debate we were having as some people decided to abandon the topic as the state of things turned quite sad. What I would like to ask is this; do you put such a negative connotation to the words fanboy or fangirl? Do you believe the opinions of those people to be invalid? If so, why? I actually believed Illidan was in a good spot and he didn't need any further adjustment with the exception of one thing I had in mind. The overall opinion of this person was also the same, that he was good and didn't need a nerf or a buff. Despite sharing similar opinions, I was completely ignored cause I was a fangirl. I'm curious to hear of your opinions about this. It's one of the only things I'm proud to refer to myself as and I am wondering why this is such a crime. Well yea I'm a 27 year old grown woman but damn I love being a fangirl <3 :D

I am really addicted to "Let's Escape" type of games on Android. Therefore I enjoyed The Room even more as I'm already fond of the type of gameplay it offers. The objective of the game is to solve the puzzles around the room, which generally come in the form of a very fancy box that has more intricate compartments than the biggest handbag I have. The puzzles are very intriguing and multi layered. They are not impossible by any means and if you look hard enough you can definitely find what to do next. There was only one time I got stuck and that was because I didn't know that I could look at the items in my inventory as at the time I had to examine an item which in turn would give me the item I needed in order to progress.

The Room Two

I enjoyed The Room Two more than the first game because the puzzles were a bit longer and more challenging. In the first game you generally had to focus on 2-3 areas of the room whereas The Room Two can have like 5 areas for you to work on. I heavily recommend The Room games to those who enjoy puzzles games. I'd also like to ask if you know any more similar games like these. I'd be so happy to take a look at them.

Another World

To be brutally honest, as I always am, I have no idea why this game has such positive reviews. Could it be the nostalgic factor? While I don't think it myself, I'm pretty sure this game might have been revolutionary or something when it was first released. I will leave this debate up to the platformer fans as they have a lot more knowledge on the subject but I'd be thankful if someone explained it to me as I'm actually curious about it. The reason I hated it is because of the controls. It's nice of them to create a new edition for the game with better graphics; however, this makes me wonder why they didn't touch the controls. They are rather unresponsive and quite frustrating. Keymapping is unlike I've seen and there was no option to change them so I had to place my hands awkwardly on the keyboard as the buttons for actions like jump, run and shoot were mapped in a way that I am not used to at all. By switching to a controller it improved a lot but still the clunky and unresponsive controls were the downfall for me.

Holy Potatoes! A Weapon Shop?!

I don't play a lot of simulator games. Holy Potatoes was gifted to me and I thought it was cute so I started playing it. While I kinda enjoyed the game at the start, it became quite the grind after a while. As you unlock new worlds and new materials, through research you can learn to forge new weapons but everything you do feels like doing the same thing over and over again. The main idea of the game is to forge weapons for heroes. Once you max up the levels of these heroes you get requests from legendary heroes like Wolverinnie (X-Men) who are references to famous characters from movies or games. Once you carry out these orders you unlock the ability to hire legendary smiths who are also references. My favourite legendary smith was Heisenberger (Breaking Bad).

My main issue with the game was that I couldn't queue up work orders. I believe that such a feature would improve this game exponentially. Overall though I think it's a cute game with a lot of funny references. Achievement hunters should be aware of that the DLC is required for 100% completion. That's the sole reason I ended up purchasing the DLC, which has around 2-3 hours of content at the most, during summer sale. I'd also like to mention that DLC starts you from 0 so don't expect your base game progress to carry over. It's a totally different campaign and it doesn't share saves with your main campaign from the base game. Its content is 100% separate.

I like a relaxing game once in a while. Being an achievement hunter and a stealth fan, I tend to push myself to the extreme limits by my own standards to get completions or play the stealth game my way. I really need that "shut my brain off, simply relax and enjoy the game for what it is" type of games on and off. Submerged filled this gap pretty successfully. The aim of the game is to find first aid packages scattered across a sunken city to help heal your brother who is wounded. The game doesn't have any stressful features. There is no death in the game, you can't fall off if you step in the wrong way, it's impossible to fall to your death as the main character refuses to let go if there is nowhere safe to land. However, there is a lot of climbing. You will be climbing a lot of buildings so it can get repetitive quickly. The game is stunning to look at and I loved steering the boat alongside the swimming animals for extra soothing affect. I only didn't like the story telling part. The achievements in the game come in the form of collectibles. By collecting secret stashes you unlock story parts. The story is told by using pictures that look like were drawn by a child. While the story was understandable at the start, I totally lost track of it towards the middle and I didn't really understand anything towards the end because I couldn't make any connections between the drawings. I'm a bit heartbroken about it :( Anyway, it's a game I'd definitely recommend if you won't get sick of constant climbing and if you feel the need to play something comforting to take a break from the more demanding games.

Lucky Thirteen

Holy hell, that’s an awesome formatting. Both on this post and on your profile. Illidan would approve! :)

Well yes, most people see the words “fanboy” and “fangirl” as derogatory terms, but it was really stupid of that person to abandon a discussion with you just because you like calling yourself a fangirl :/ Don’t worry about it too much, there’s pleny of weird haters on the internet.
Me, I judge people based on their opinions and prefered genre of music, so I wouldn’t care if my converstaion partner was a fanboy/girl as long as we’d share similar opinions :D

Edit: Oh, almost forgot: a big congrats to your impressive completion rate! :)

Forsaken

Thank you so much :D I actually learned a lot of formatting with the help of awesome code writers here on BLAEO. I used to not even be able to change colours on tabs and texts or align the text. I struggled with which colours to pick on my tabs but I still went with Illidan related colours due to the content of the update :D

English is not my native language. So I don’t really know if those terms are negative by nature. I always saw them as positive. It’s great to have such an obsession or something that you like so much. Life feels pretty empty otherwise, it’s vital to have such stuff we can cling on to, in my opinion. However, I also know such an obsession can make one blind to any form of criticism about the things they are obsessed about. Oh well, I criticise Illidan like mad myself so I’m safe there. Besides, more haters mean more for me :P

prefered genre of music

I simply HAVE to ask. What are your preferred genres of music? :P

Lucky Thirteen

I’m not a native EN speaker either, but I think the terms used to be neutral, but these days they are rather negative because the majority of the fanboys/girls tend to be pretty young and rather unpleasant to deal with (because of their obsession, like you mentioned). Damn teens, they ruin everything! ;D Agreed that it’s good to have some passion in life, though! :)

I simply HAVE to ask. What are your preferred genres of music? :P

Psychobilly, rock, rock’n’roll and a bit of metal here and there :D

Forsaken

Yep, teens have to ruin everything for the rest of us :D

Wow, we listen to very different genres. Would you judge me badly if I told you that I like classical, jazz, blues and alternative? :P

Lucky Thirteen

Jazz and blues are fine by me! Even though my knowledge of these genres is limited to “Lisa Simpson likes them” :D So yay, we can still be friends… unless you’ll now judge ME badly based on my favourite genres, lol :D

Forsaken

I don’t have a lot of knowledge about the genres either. I mean stuff like their variants, sub-genres, points and years of origin. I really don’t know. I just really love listening to them though :P

unless you’ll now judge ME badly based on my favourite genres, lol :D

Of course not :P We’re good! :D

Lucky Thirteen

Good, good :D

Trent

I’ve never even heard of the word Psychobilly. I googled it and it just defined it in terms of more words I’ve never heard of before: rockabilly, thrashabilly, punkabilly, surfabilly and gothabilly. I gave up at that point. :p

Forsaken

Haha, I didn’t know what it is either but I didn’t Google it. It’s great that Google was so helpful in telling you what it is :p

Lucky Thirteen

thrashabilly, punkabilly, surfabilly and gothabilly

Even I haven’t heard these terms before! O.o I think Google just pulled them out of its backside :D
Rockabilly is basically a mix of country music and rock’n’roll ;) Psychobilly is kind of a mix of rock’n’roll and punk rock with emphasis on horror/zombie themed songs. Hopefully I was a bit more helpful than Google here :D

Trent

Yes, thank you. And really it was more Wikipedia than Google that was responsible for those terms. And tbh, I read them as “thrashability,” etc., not as “thrashabilly.” I guess + billy is just a fusion of that with country...?

Lucky Thirteen

I guess + billy is just a fusion of that with country…?

I’d like to give you some kind of answer, but I’m not really sure, sorry :D My knowledge of those “-billy” genres doesn’t reach that far, either :D

538UL84

Just when I thought your stats couldn’t get more impressive..
Those WoW screenshots looks amazing! I’m glad you’re enjoying the game (again). We need such positives in our life. Your friends are great for wanting to give you that :)

Fanboy/fangirl only has a positive meaning for me. I’m glad for them they found something to really enjoy/obsess over. I don’t consider myself a fangirl and have no interest in online discussions/debating, but even then, that seems like really strange (arrogant) behaviour.
Just keep owning it! You go fangirl!

Forsaken

The first years of WoW had such ugly graphics. Things really changed in the game. Paper like trees still exist but there are breathtakingly beautiful places in later expansions and Legion is full of them and I didn’t even share like 10% of them in the screenshots I’ve already uploaded on the post. Game really became such a sight to see.

I give the same meaning to those terms like you do. I see it as quite positive but I can also understand how such obsession or love can make one blind about the flaws of the things they love so much. Also my days of online debate are long over now, the debate example I mentioned on my post happened about 2 years ago. But due to the content of the update, it felt like a relevant thing to ask to the good assassins of BLAEO :)

I most likely would have gotten 200 perfect games and 96% achievement completion by now but nope :P Not for another couple of months :D Thanks WoW!

Thanks for your wonderful attitude :)

538UL84

Well, if you make some more Legion screenshots I’d love to see them :)

I think, the fact that you’re aware of possible ‘blindness’, already says enough.

I’ll never get an achievement completion percentage that high :P Deleted quite a few games from my account in which I gained a small amount of achievements. Sucks that Steam doesn’t delete the achievements/reset the completion rate as well. But I’m starting to care less about 100% achievements and focus on having a good time 100% of the time, which didn’t go hand-in-hand for me.
I’d like to reach 80% avg. completion rate though! I’m at 73% now, should be possible.

I know I sound like a cliché, but the most important thing is having a good time. Or, you know, better time. Forgetting/ignoring the real world. I’m writing this down to remind myself as well.

Forsaken

If you are interested here are the screenshots I have already taken and uploaded on Steam. I admit that I should take more screenshots from Suramar, I have lots of screenshots from that city before I switched to playing with Steam overlay. I think it’s the best looking city in the game (and was Illidan’s favourite city to spend time in). I really should take some screenshots there on Steam.

I know exactly what you mean about achievement progress sticking with you forever even if you delete the game. I have so many games I really didn’t like playing but earned 1-2 achievements and are ruining my completion rate. If it’s already 95% imagine what it’d be if I could remove those :D I think stuff needs to be done about achievements. Like limiting their number, giving the people the option to completely remove them from stats if they remove a game from library, or hell even the option to disable achievements from certain games so you can freely play them without worrying about them or locking achievements so you can re-earn them again (I saw many people requesting this on forums, I’d personally never use it :D)

I’m glad you are caring less about them. I really should do that myself but it makes me feel good about the things I’ve achieved once I look at them. I am posting the numbers here because it’s a website to post updates about our progress. I don’t do it for show. I randomly check my profile during the day and seeing the way it is right now makes me feel happy a bit :) That’s why despite hating them so much I can’t stop caring about them no matter how much I want to. I am more and more interested in GoG so who knows maybe I’ll get most games on GoG and only reserve certain games on Steam.

I agree that enjoyment is the primary target when playing games. Or they should be :)

Trent

I think stuff needs to be done about achievements. Like limiting their number, giving the people the option to completely remove them from stats if they remove a game from library, or hell even the option to disable achievements from certain games so you can freely play them without worrying about them or locking achievements so you can re-earn them again

I would think I died and went to Heaven.

GoG is great– and I’ve gotten a couple of games from there specifically so I didn’t have t worry about achievements. That said, I’ve played exactly 1/2 of a game from GoG…when I think of my backlog, I don’t even really think about GoG (except for a few games I also have on Steam but would play elsewhere , which in many cases means on GoG or otherwise DRM-free.

Spirit

I would imagine I have most of my playtime on GOG games as I keep playing the “classics” over and over :P

As far as I’m concerned they could just remove achievement and maybe some people would pay more attention to playing the games for their own sake than getting those achievements. Although I can understand that this metagame is fun for a lot of people I feel like it’s getting too much attention at times.

Forsaken

I’ve gotten a couple of games from there specifically so I didn’t have t worry about achievements

I’m thinking of doing the same thing for games I REALLY want to play but wouldn’t on Steam. I might purchase GoG versions if they exist.

Trent

And I forgot to mention– they also have much fairer regional pricing– no more one dollar = one euro. (Or so I’ve been told.)

Spirit

Imagine what a relief it would be if they just removed achievements all together

Forsaken

It would be but as I mentioned, I have a love and hate relationship with them. While it’d be a huge relief I’d also be slightly upset. Not buying games I would like playing cause they have tough achievements is a very unhealthy behaviour and I’m ashamed of myself for having it.

Spirit

I can imagine you’d feel like you lost something having put considerably more “effort” in them than most. Despite the fact that I’m actively trying to not let achievements affect the way I play or enjoy games I find myself shy away from games with a lot of “hard” or rather what I feel contrived achievements. Well, at least when it comes to participating in giveaways anyway. When it comes to buying games I don’t think I have this consideration.

Edit: Fun fact:Well maybe not so fun but it felt appropriate to share for some reason :)Back in The Burning Crusade days I had two accounts with level 70 characters. One completely Black Temple raid ready and on the other maybe half of them at least able to enter most raids even though I wouldn’t consider them raid ready myself :)

Also, For the Alliance!

Forsaken

That’s awesome, I personally really enjoyed raiding in The Burning Crusade expansion. It wasn’t as enjoyable as vanilla but still. Karazhan especially was so much fun. Towards the end of the expansion, there was some unfortunate guild drama which led me to have to quit the guild and I just didn’t really want to look for another hardcore raiding guild anymore. It was one of the better expansions even though it wrongfully showed Illidan in a bad light.

Spirit

I loved some of the questing zones in The Burning Crusade but not so much the raids to be completely honest. Sadly the game started to feel a bit too grindy even for me with this expansion and all the daily quests and different attunements. If I remember correctly they also reduced the required experience to level up your characters quite substantially, which might sound like a good thing but I feel like it devalued the time people put in before the update :P

Forsaken

I personally loved the attunement quests. Attunement quests have been completely removed, keys to open dungeon/raid doors which require a certain reputation rank with a certain faction have also been removed. You can basically go anywhere you like as long as your level is appropriate. Now everything feels impersonal to me.

I remember having to go through extremely long attunement quests for Molten Core, Blackwing Lair, Naxxramas then Serpentshrine Cavern in TBC but it still felt awesome to me. I feel like those attunements could have been cut down on to make them shorter instead of completely removing them and they could have been made account bound so once you are attuned on one character, you won’t have to do it again on other characters but you could also have the option to redo them depending on what you want.

Kinda like the introductory Broken Shore quest at the start of Legion, when you do it once you can skip it on other characters or you could re-do them. If you choose to skip it, there is an NPC that also gives you the option to experience it again, not repetitively but only once for those characters who skipped it the first time.

Spirit

Yeah, don’t get me wrong. The concept is great, I just felt they were too many and too complicated. I’m willing to admit that trying to attune every character on two different accounts may have me slightly biased in my opinions though :P

Account bound and optional sounds like a great implementation. I never knew it worked like that because I only did it once leveling my “new” Druid.

Forsaken

I’m willing to admit that trying to attune every character on two different accounts may have me slightly biased in my opinions though :P

You have every right to feel biased after what you went through :)

I farmed that Wintersaber mount across 3 characters, same as Netherwing Drakes across 4 characters. Then mounts became account bound so if you unlocked that mount on one character, all other characters on your account can also use it. What a waste of my time :P I am not even entering Winterspring to level up my alts because I hate the area even though I love the look of the tigers there and adore how snowy it is :P

Spirit

Winterspring is a nice zone but it always felt a bit uhm… spread out to me. I could never figure out a how to progress through the zone in a nice flow and it felt like I was mostly running back and forth across the whole zone delivering quests.

538UL84

giving the people the option to completely remove them from stats if they remove a game from library

If only ;’) You hit the nail on the head, also judging from the other comments here.

So, a love-hate relationship with achievements. If it helps.. I totally understand. I just hope the love overshadows the hate :)

Forsaken

I kinda wish the hate overshadowed the love though. Maybe I’d free myself from their grasp and would develop healthier habits regarding my gaming :( Driving around for like 35-40 hours to get “Drive 1000 miles” achievement in Mafia II… Such stuff is not healthy! :P

I still think Valve needs to address such achievement related features in my opinion.

538UL84

That makes sense, I hadn’t considered that.

Spirit

I wouldn’t personally care as long as: love for games » love for the meta-game :P

So pretty! Thank you <3
I love the building style and the trees and the swirly flower things..

Trent

What a beautifully formatted update! I look forward to reading it later today.
And Coraline Castell did fantastic work also. :)

Forsaken

Looking forward to hearing more from you Trent :)

Coraline has totally outdone herself. Once she finds some more free time she will begin to work on her own profile but she already accepted that hers won’t look as good as mine, in her words :D I can’t wait to see what she will come up with :)

ninglor03

Oh GOD! Why are you doing this to me?? (Not at all in a negative sense!)

First off: I love the looks of your profile :) <3

Then: How could you add so many WoW screens. Now I’m homesick sigh
But I totally get you. And I figured it would be your addon :D
I enjoyed it so far also a lot, but as it always happens with me, I get at some point to much off WoW and stop again ;)
Hope you will have lots of wonderful hours ahead of you still! :)

Concerning your question:
I love fangirls/boys. At least as long as one can still talk with them. Like they accept to also look critical. There are some fan, that are just blind fans and don’t acknowledge bad side to a character/story/game/series/what ever ;)
But in general I think it just means you found something you like a LOT! and that is awesome!
So ignore those ppl who can’t see the nice side of being a fangirl - although it is a shame it ruined your discussion :(

Have a great time!
Happy raidboss/mobs killing :)

Forsaken

I had no idea that you played WoW. If you still play, it’d be fun to play together once in a while :D I believe you are on EU? Feel free to use one of my early posts to share your battle.net tag with me if you would like. Or alternatively I could do that too. Depends on how you want it :)

I usually quit pretty quickly too but this time I took roleplaying to the next level which in turn made me have so much stuff to do. For example I’ve been dying to have an Orc warrior but I had a Human warrior as my brother made a Night Elf and we were gonna raid together, so I also went Alliance when I first started playing the game. But now I want nothing to do with my Human warrior or Night Elf Rogue. I made Orc Warrior, Undead Rogue and now I’m trying to max them up. I also farm a lot of legacy raids for transmog sets. Right now my aim is to get Tusks of Mannoroth from Garrosh in Heroic Siege of Orgrimmar. I heard that the drop rate is as low as legendaries so it’ll take a while. Normally game becomes stale for me quickly but right now there are a lot of things I want to achieve in the game :)

Yea I believe the term fangirl of fanboy might refer to the blindness of the fandom. Those who know me know that I call Illidan an idiot so I can criticise him to death while also loving him to death :P Both can work! :D

ninglor03

Oooooooooh yes. I do! When I do. Ah, you know what I mean, right?
I even played it before all those achievements were implemented. Ok, I started before BC but not right from the start :D
But I stopped last November. Shortly after my grandma died. All those ppl where suddenly to much. I now I try really hard to not touch it again, because I know I’ll abandon everything else while playing it and I don’t want that at this point. I’m happy here with blaeo, so that makes me wanna play loooooooots of sp game ;)
But I could log into blizz and give you my tag non the less, if you want to :)

I only did a bit of rp in wow. Lotro worked on that level better for me. But wow offers so much to do! So many things to hunt and collect and see and… <3
I also started as Alliance. Had for years a gnome female warlock, which I loved to pieces. I finally made her a bloodelve warlock and decided she’s just like a butterfly and finally grew into something pretty :D
Although I like the story of most Horde races, I sadly don’t like the looks too much and therefore don’t like to play them hide
I’m mostly playing bloodelves :]

Dunno if it’s the word but I sure know what you mean :D
Yep, you are right. And that’s the nice fangirls. The blind fan(atics) are a bit tougher to handle but even they work :)

Forsaken

Although I like the story of most Horde races, I sadly don’t like the looks too much and therefore don’t like to play them hide

But… but… but… :( Honestly my main is also a Blood Elf but that is because I am aiming for Illidan cosplaying with my Demon Hunter who is my main character currently. I can’t stand Night Elves so it has to be a Blood Elf. Right now I’m working on my Orc Warrior and I’m having a blast with the roleplaying because I adore Orcs and their lore. The more I read novels and the more I gain knowledge about Warcraft lore, the more I hate Alliance. Orcs are easily my most favourite race in the game. Gnomes are the only race I like in Alliance :) My 2nd ever character was a male Gnome Mage and while I can’t stand playing on Alliance, I adore him so much :D

We can share tags if you ever come back to the game, even if it’s for a limited time as I also play for a limited time myself. Just hit me up if you ever find yourself returning to it :)

I can understand how this game can make one abandon everything. I am right now at a time where I really need to do such a thing to cope with certain things and while it is definitely not fixing the problems, it is helping me deal with them.

ninglor03

I know. Lot of ppl complain about me being so…. um, optically judgemental in wow?
Like I’m always telling other playes how ugly they char looks or something. I’m a meany, I know. But that doesn’t mean I don’t like the ppl behind that and I’m pretty sure they also know that :D
Ha, yeah, Gnomes are funny! :D

Alright, I’ll poke you when/if the times comes :)

Oh, I know that feeling. It is so easy to get distracted with wow and that way handle problematic situation. Because sometimes we all just need a break. And a really good break as well!
I hope it gets better soon hug

Forsaken

Haha :D You are vicious! I generally judge the look of my own character. However I only judge Demon Hunters. Whenever I see a demon hunter player that is wearing a lot of armour I yell YOU DON’T LOOK LIKE A DEMON HUNTER, HIDE THAT THING AND SHOW YOUR TATTOOS. YOU ARE MEANT TO BE HALF NAKED FGS JUST LOOK AT ILLIDAN FOR REFERENCE!!!! I don’t actually say it to them, I say it to myself :P

That’s it really :D

Thank you for the nice wishes <3

ninglor03

I am! xD
Yes, you are right! All those overly armoured DH….. nonno, that’s not working!
Also they are mostly just cool with the tats and all that! <3

Forsaken

How can someone resist the urge to display that hot body with hot tattoos :S I’ll never understand it. This is my current Illidan cosplaying set. It’s only missing leggings but they drop from a raid boss in Legion and they never dropped for me so far and I am not hopeful :D Other than the leggings, everything is as close as they could be to Illidan. Trust me, I looked. For days! This is as close as you can get except leggings. :D You can right click on the image and press “open image in new tab” to zoom in.

Me

ninglor03

That looks just awesome! <3

Spirit

Uhm, isn’t cosplay something you do irl?

Forsaken

I don’t do it in real life. I don’t know why the term shouldn’t apply to games as well. If I didn’t want to cosplay as a certain popular character I like in a game then I’d pick other appearances for my character. That’s why I picked that term because to me it makes sense.

Spirit

I’ve never heard it used for this purpose but I guess it fits just as well

Trent

I’m with you, Nin. Back in my WoW days, I just had no interest playing some ugly Orc, Troll, or Undead character. The Tauren were sort of okay I guess, and the other Horde races didn’t exist yet. And I just always felt like Horde were the “bad guys,” and I simply don’t like playing bad guys. *shrug*. Oh well, each to his or her own.

ninglor03

nod nod
But. Bad and good is always a kind of perspective, right? :]

Trent

Indeed– and that’s one of the things I love about Game of Thrones– even many of the “bad guys” aren’t necessarily “bad people” (with a few exceptions). People are more complicated than that.

ninglor03

Cersei…. mutter Joffrey cough
Shall I keep on? :]

Trent

I did say with a few exceptions…but even Cersei, while horribly twisted…she does it because she loves her children and her family and wants to protect them from those who would take them away or otherwise be an adversary.
She has to work on the whole “revenge” thing with a therapist, though….”

ninglor03

You’ve probably only seen the show, right?
I think I never before hated a book character as much as I hated Cersei. And I already thought I hated Joffrey. But apparently not as much :D
In the Series it is not as bad - at least for me. Because there she is not purely an idea but you see a person. Like in book I imagine them and though she was blond and pretty, she was also an abstract being. Horrible and cruel and monstrous. But yeah. She is not the same for me in book and in the series.

Forsaken

I read the books so long ago that I forgot about them. I only remember the 3rd book being my favourite and whether it be in show or in the book that Tyrion is the best character in the entire series.

If you would like, feel free to provide comparison examples in spoiler tags between Cersei in the book and Cersei in the show. That is if it doesn’t take up much of your time and if you would really like to do it. I’d be happy to listen in order to refresh my memory. If you don’t want to, it’s totally fine too, believe me :D

To me the books and show are extremely detached right now and I don’t remember Cersei being that different :( Oh however I do remember how the show is lacking a certain very important character from the novels Lady Stoneheart :P

ninglor03

Ha, well I had to reread the books to do that nicely. But she showed way less heart. Just think off her daughter being in dorne. I can’t even remember she cares too much about it. The same goes for Tommen. She is in the books mostly pissed about Marge being of more interest for him and doesn’t so much show motherly affection. As far as I remember ;)

Most characters where somehow different though. And yes, the further the whole story progressed the more the difference between book and show became obvious. That much, that I’m totally unhappy about the… sixth I guess it was. Not yet seeing the new one, so the one before that. Should be six, right?
For some characters it’s just minor, but others like Sansa, that just soooooo annoys me. Or Brienne who killed Stannis in the show. She wasn’t even there in the books! She and Jamie where about to being hanged by Cat Stark - yes, she reappeared. But not in the show, because why would they show tooooo much of the coming back powers? Yeah, there is this fire dude who gets killed by the dog but I guess nobody payed too much attention to him. So up until Jon gets resurrected… I know I have talked with a few ppl before the sixth season and they all freaked because Jon was dead. And I was like, are you sure? Did you see him being burned? Because I didn’t and as long as that doesn’t happen nobody is dead in the series. So tada, there we go. :D
Right. Got a bit sidetracked. Yes, my focus was never so much on Cersei, because she got me soooooo easy in enrage mode - more in the books then in the tv show though :]
Oh also to leaving out characters, they kill off characters that are (at least until now) not dead in the books. Characters I liked! :(

Forsaken

Thanks for the explanations :) It’s been so long that I really don’t remember how differently the events happened in the books or which characters are alive in the books that were killed off in the show. It all became a mess in my head :P I hate my memory. Though I did remember what you said about Cat Stark and the prison, thanks for reminding that to me :)

I’m unhappy with pretty much all seasons of the show. Except the current season which is the 7th so yea I think you are talking about the sixth one. While things are happening too quickly in this season, it’s the first season that was a blast to watch for me. Even the battle in a certain episode was better than the Warcraft movie….

ninglor03

Aha! So you like the ones better that are no longer close to the book, because there are literally no books to go by! I’m just the opposite. I liked the first few best since they where still pretty much what was in the books. I guess in this case I’m really all for the books :)

But yes, the battle was very awesome!

Forsaken

That is not what I said at all.

I hated the earlier seasons because common themes were adultery, rape, brothels, threesomes, foursomes and sex etc etc etc accompanied by tons of nudity which I remember that much that were not the focus in the books. Right now the story is far more different than the books; however, it finally feels like the real themes like battles, mind games with battle strategy, politics are being focused on, themes the novels also focused on.

How do you know which battle I’m talking about? You said you didn’t see the new season yet :S The battle I am talking about was in the episode released last week. When you said you didn’t see the “new one” yet, did you mean season or episode? I’m confused :(

ninglor03

Oh sry, I just presumed wrongly :)

Yeah, that makes sense. And yes, in the books it was not that much the focus. It was there, but it was not like everything evolved around it :)

Oh, I thought you meant the battle with the whites in the sixth. (Guess there could also be one with whites in the seventh :D) So, also sry for confusion. I have seen so far as much as the sixth season and since the seventh is not on free tv, have seen nothing of it so far :)

Trent

Yes, only saw the show.

ninglor03

That’s ok then. Luckily we get in the show not that much off an insight of her, then in the books :D
But you like the show, right? :)

Trent

Luckily we get in the show not that much off an insight of her, then in the books

Yes a book will always provide more insight I think.

But you like the show, right? :)

Love it. It’s the only TV series I watch (other than reality TV, Survivor etc).

ninglor03

Sometimes too much though :D
I confess I’ve seen a bit of Vampire Diaries and I was curious since it’s based on a book. I think that was one of the worst book series (or book in singular) I EVER touched. The series is way better - which is not that normal. Legend of the Seeker for example worked the other way round. Seen the series, got curious, now I can’t look at the series any longer since it’s just bad. ;)

That is nice! I enjoyed the first seasons :)

Trent

Did you stop watching, or just stopped enjoying it (or both)?

ninglor03

No, I’m still watching it. If the seventh season ever comes into free tv that is :D
I just don’t enjoy it that much any more. Sadly, because I really wanna know how the story goes on and what happens to the characters. But I guess I more wanna know how Martin himself handles it :D

Trent

Yeah, if I were a book reader I’d be very conflicted about watching the show once it started getting into unwritten content. It’s one of the reasons I wouldn’t read a series unless/until the series is finished (although Harry Potter was an exception).

ninglor03

HP was an exception for everybody! :D
Mhm, but no, can’t agree 100% to that. Some authors publish books and you can be pretty sure the next one will come soon enough. Like Tad Williams. I trust him enough to get a first book and a second right on publishing. (Also I couldn’t really wait until all of theme are published to read them :D)
But… yes, having the show going further then the book. It’s conflicting :/

Trent

Well tbh I really don’t read books these days, so it’s a theoretical argument. I guess I’m just empathetic with book-readers and would never want to be in that situation, so it makes me think I wouldn’t want to start a “big” series until it’s finished…that is, if I actually read big any series…

ninglor03

If we could just make him go on with writing….. :]

Forsaken

I just always felt like Horde were the “bad guys,”

Do you still think this? Because if so we have some schooling to do :P

Trent

Uh oh….remedial WoW during detention with Headmistress Lenor… <scared>

Forsaken

I can give you some information. You’re free to draw your own conclusions and continue to see Horde as monsters if you choose to do so :P

GiseIIe

The profile looks amazing! I really like the dark colors!

Personally, I see fangirl as a positive term?? As long as you acknowledge it and are not acting crazy, what’s wrong with it?
To say the truth, I can fully admit that I sometimes turn a blind eye towards bad things that my favorite characters do (lmao), but you know what? That’s totally okay! Series of any media are done first and foremost for the fans. Without them, they wouldn’t exist. There’s no difference to me if you’re just a casual fan or a more obsessed one, you’re still the target that’s supposed to consume and enjoy the series. As long as something still brings you joy and make you happy, go all for it. When something will wear you out, just move to the next thing. That’s my personal opinion. 🌟

Forsaken

Thank you so much for sharing your opinion Giselle. I really share your view on this too. I don’t think it’s a negative term either. I also loved the way you connected the existence of products and how they are aimed at fans. That’s a wonderful point. Blizzard actually does this a lot by recycling already dead characters just to aim at their fans.

I also try to substitute bad stuff with the good stuff my favourite characters do. Illidan for example brought Argus to Azeroth. I know this doesn’t have much context right now so I’ll simplify it for anyone reading this that are not familiar with Warcraft lore. He basically put everyone on one planet (that us players live in) at a massive risk by extremely increasing their chances to die. Whereas in my point of view he enabled us to fast travel there so we can kill the enemy faster :D So right now the WoW community has been divided into two, those who support him on this and those who think it was such a colossal mistake :D I adore this :)

Quinze

I love listening to your Warcraft stories :)
And you know I really admire your fangirling. I just find it amazing that people can be so excited about something, I really wish I could be like that.
It’s really awful that people “mock” it, I believe being passionate about something is truly awesome :)
I’m really happy you’ve got more time to play WoW and worship Illidan, the helpful man.

Well said.

Blue Ϟ Lightning

well everything I want to say has already been said
Honestly fangirl/fanboys are some of the best people in the world (or at least the coolest to me). At least they have something they are passionate about right? Like I can only see that as a positive.

and your formatting is top quality. >_<

Forsaken

I love that attitude of yours regarding fanboyism/fangirlism. I truly feel the same way :)

Thank you so much :D

EvilBlackSheep

Congrats on the amazing new stats and the new cool profile/formatting!!

I loved seeing your WoW posts on my steam feed, not only because they’re always really cool but also because it kinds of tickles my nostalgia of WoW but stay away I must… Resiiiiiist… I’m still in admiration of that first one of your second bash, it’s soooo pretty I’ve been pondering about making it my wallpaper. I’m glad you’ll be playing more of it especially because you’re on the right side ;p. For the Horde!!

For the Horde!!

As to answer your question, to me there is 2 type of fangirls/fanboys, and my interaction with them depends on their individual attitude/behavior. It’s a term that can be used both in a positive or negative way.

Type A, the ones I’d gladly interact with and probably am myself depending on the fandom, are the ones who are enthusiastic (sometimes overly but it’s ok) about whatever topic they define themselves as fanboys/girls of. They’ll try to explain to you why, sometimes rally you to their cause, but always stay respectful and positive. They might not always agree with you but you can have a discussion with them and it’s all good. I think you do fit in this category, which is why that person’s attitude towards you was pretty stupid IMHO.
Then comes Type B, and Type B though is like the plague of the internet (or real life). They’re the agressive kind of fanboys/fangirls, who are just gonna argue that what YOU like is shit because you don’t agree with them (ie. fanboys/girls of a specific console/brand/PCmasterrace) and be overly agressive and blind to any flaw the side they’re “defending” can have. I mostly don’t engage with people like that because I can’t be bothered with people you can’t talk with. That being said, you cannot put somebody in category A or B without interacting with them or seeing them argue about the topic.

Forsaken

Aww, I’m so glad you liked that screenshot so much. Truly feel free to use it as your wallpaper if you like it. I’d be honoured :) Argus can be seen from pretty much everywhere but depending on the zone you are in, the weather could be cloudy, rainy, sunny etc. The location I picked is somewhere in Highmountain, it’s at its highest peak because it’s the only place where it looks like that in the screenshot. It’s a zone in Legion and it takes about 10 minutes to fly there from Dalaran which is the capital city in Legion :) I had to fly back and forth with so many characters to take screenshots there with all of them because it looks amazing and we have Illidan to thank for, for bringing Argus next to our doorstep :D

Yea I think the number of Type B fans are so overwhelming that some people don’t even want to give a stranger a chance to prove them that they could be the Type A one. I think that’s what happened in my case. I get really different reactions from people, even people whom I considered as friends at the time. For example one said that I was too much and that it was getting old. I apologised for making him feel uncomfortable, not because of who I was. That friendship eventually died out because I had to always keep my mouth shut if something exciting happened in Warcraft. Whereas another friend of mine said he would stop talking to me if I stopped fangirling because that’s who I am and me not fangirling would mean I am not the same person that he likes so much. Even people you know, not strangers, can have such different attitude towards it and it’s all fine. Friendships require mutual effort. Like in the first case, I could have monitored my fangirling and kept it to as minimum as I could whereas he could have increased his tolerance to it. Mutual effort, common ground would be found eventually. But it didn’t work. It’s even worse with a stranger sadly :(

EvilBlackSheep

Thanks, I’ll most likely grab it from your screenshots and use it as a background on my desktop pc :)

It’s really even more sad that I think Type A are the majority but Type B are so toxic in their behaviors and interactions that they make bad rep for fangirls/fanboys as a whole. It’s also sad to hear that it costed you friendships because i didn’t think you did anything wrong :( But as you said, friendship require mutual efforts and sometimes they just don’t work out. Meh.

IcyGlare

I admit that I sometimes automatically dismiss the opinions of some people once they refer to themselves as, or when I figure out that they’re this or that (usually related to politics, religion, other more serious stuff), but fanboys/girls, I don’t mind… as long as they’re not assholes. I’d like to believe that I consider only the merits of the assertions or arguments put forth by fanboys/girls, and not the fact that they’re very passionate about something and are more likely to view a certain subject in a more positive light. For me, the term “fanboy/girl” is neutral. When fanboys/girls act like assholes, I refer to them as “rabid fanboys/girls” or just omit the “fanboy/girl” label and go straight to “asshole.”

Forsaken

as long as they’re not assholes

I believe this applies to communication with every human on the planet :)

Neutral is still better than negative.

Trent

Lenor, I truly love your updates…not just because they’re interesting and well-written, but because you share so much of yourself with us, and your personality and passion (especially when talking about WoW but not only that) just jump off the page. And even though I may already know about some of the things you write, I still learn a lot about you, and how you experience the games you play. And your screenshots are simply fantastic.

To me, fanboy has a negative connotation, as it is often ascribed derisively to somebody, usually because they are defending something (a game, a dev, etc.) in a blind, annoying fashion. That said, fangirl doesn’t (to me) have a negative connotation. For one thing, it’s just so damn cute (sorry) and (fan)girls just aren’t nearly as annoying as the typical fanboy.

I may self-identify as a fanboy of a few select things, but for somebody not to be willing to discuss something with me once they hear that word? Well, then they’re not worth discussing it with in the first place. >:-(

Forsaken

I may self-identify as a fanboy of a few select things

You bet that I’ll follow up on this during our next talk on Steam :)

Thanks a lot for your wonderful words Trent. To my surprise WoW talk was extremely small here. I don’t know how I managed to keep myself in check this time :P

Once I saw Legion announcement trailer, you should see my reaction post on my blog just for giggles. I’ve never written something so bad in my life yet I still keep it there just to read it once in a while so I can laugh at myself :D

Trent

Yes, I’ve read that post before– it’s one for the ages and ofc adorable ;).

Forsaken

Oh I had no idea that I had sent it to you before. Double the embarrassment :P

Trent

You may or may not have sent it to me, but I’ve read it before.

Selby

Oooh I’m glad I read the comments… I have the exact same problem as Queen Nin regarding WoW, if I make the mistake of playing it again, everything else will cease to exist… and I can’t let it happen again! Funny thing is I haven’t felt such a hurge to play in quite some time, but somehow you manage to make me want to play again!
Your passion is quite contagious I guess!

Your new profile really looks amazing! Congratulations to both of you for coming up with something so beautiful

As for your question, to me fangirl/boy tend to have a negative connotation… Mostly because it has a “blind love” feeling attached to it (at least in my mind). Some of my friends call me a fangirl sometimes and I don’t mind as long as it’s said as a joke… I know there are things or people I love to no end but calling me a fangirl has the same meaning (once again, to me) as calling me dumb… I always saw your “Illidan’s fangirl” as a funny way of saying passionate
Regarding this guy you were talking to, I don’t think his opinion was valid… I mean yes, I get that you’re a huge fan of Illidan, but you don’t seem “blind” see what I did there, see?! to arguments or ideas. So yeah, he seems (to me) as someone looking for any excuse to lock down the conversation.

Forsaken

It’s rather sad you see the word as “dumb”. But of course it’s a term you don’t like and your friends should try and avoid telling you that as it frustrates you. It’s a label I proudly call myself as and I don’t see myself as dumb because of it. I actually see it as an improvement over me because such passion helps me in a lot of ways to cope with the hard stuff. I find absolutely 0 shame in it. If someone tries to make me feel that, I will just move along and not acknowledge that person because they are not worth my time or effort.

You actually felt like returning to the game after reading my post? Oh wow. I actually skipped a lot of stuff regarding my progress in WoW. I could have written this post in such a way that I’d make people feel like they played the game themselves because there was actually a lot of progress to report during this one month of gametime but I really mean that the post would take up the entire feed in that case because I don’t shut up once I get going about Warcraft. I’m surprised the little things I mentioned made multiple people excited about it. As a writer of this post, it makes me quite happy that my excitement carried over to other people. It is never a bad thing to spread such positive feelings.

538UL84

I’m surprised the little things I mentioned made multiple people excited about it.

Don’t be! Like Trent says, you have a wonderful way of writing. That and your screenshots made me excited as well!
I had created a Blizzard account for Diablo 3 (didn’t start yet, shame), but now I’m thinking I’ll try WoW first.

Forsaken

Thank you so much for the compliment :) I really love taking screenshots too :D

I hope Diablo 3 offers you what you are looking for. By the way you can play WoW for free up to level 20. You can’t create hero classes like Death Knights or Demon Hunters because they start from much higher levels but you can create all other classes and level them up to 20. Maximum level is 110 by the way so don’t forget that leveling to 20 is not a good indication of what the game can offer :)

Spirit

Funny you should mention that leveling to 20 is not a good indication of what the game has to offer. I fairly recently logged on to one of my old accounts to do a bit of “research” into the Pandaren and, bloody hell, I didn’t think WoW could feel boring to me but somehow they managed to make the game feel alien and somewhat repetitive to me.

I had great fun leveling a new Druid with a friend a few years ago though.

Forsaken

I think the game has always been repetitive.

As for Pandaria, I believe it’s the worst expansion alongside Draenor. This is my opinion though. I felt like the Pandaren and Pandaria were too forced. In my eyes they feel like they don’t belong into the game although dialogues between Chen Stormstout and his niece Li Li are quite funny. I feel like the whole aspect of Void, Y’shaarj, Garrosh’s rule as Warchief and Old Gods could have been incorporated into the game without the whole Panda thing.

I used a level 100 token on my level 13 Druid. I recently maxed her level and got her class mount in Legion after lots of grindy and repetitive quests. She looks amazing but I think Druids are quite hectic to play. I picked Feral and they have a lot more dots to keep track of than the Affliction Warlocks in classic :P So much so that my old guild leader who mains a healer Druid who occasionally goes Feral to help with whatever the guild needs asked me “Why would you punish yourself like this” when he saw me leveling a Druid :P They are fun to play though. If I didn’t hate Malfurion and Cenarius so much, I’d be able to roleplay a Druid more easily.

Spirit

Yes, of course, being an MMO it’s bound to be repetitive but this has never really bothered me during my many many hours of playtime before trying this race/area. It’s probably confounding factors like not being able to relate to the class and characters that made me feel like this was more of a problem though.

I don’t really have any experience playing a Druid after The Burning Crusade but at least up until then they always seemed overpowered to me. Maybe not the absolute best at a class role but damn the versatility, at least was, unmatched and they are damn fun to play specifically because of this :)

The mount thingy is pretty much like the reduced xp changes, it devalues the time everyone put in the game prior to this change. I understand why they are doing it though but pissing all over the people that have been playing the game since its inception is just bad manners. If they have to change things and make it easier to attract new players they should add new options instead of changing the old stuff. Just add new mounts etc for the new people with less effort and keep everyone happy. This would require more resources though so it’s perfectly understandable why it’s done like it is :P

Forsaken

It’s probably confounding factors like not being able to relate to the class and characters that made me feel like this was more of a problem though.

I totally get it and I agree.

It totally broke my immersion and I found this disappointing because I love the lore regarding the Void and Old Gods. All of that was lost on me due to the forced inclusion of Pandaria. I had to really force myself to roleplay in order to take as much enjoyment as I possibly could from the expansion. The entire time I was like “GARROSH MUST BE STOPPED AND HORDE MUST BE REBUILT!!!!” I actually raided hardcore as a main tank during that expansion so it was vital for me to find something to hold onto but it wasn’t enough and I eventually quit.

Versatility wise Druids are unrivaled and they really are so much fun to play :) Right now they are not overpowered but I think they are quite well balanced while having a higher skill cap than some other classes to master. I actually remember Druids being the best soloers until Wrath of the Lich King when Death Knights easily had that going for them and now with the introduction of Demon Hunters, Death Knights are decrowned.

Spirit

Writing about WoW, the single biggest gaming obsession on the planet, probably helps a wee bit too :)

Forsaken

Replying to you in regard of what you asked on Lastm’s update. This will be really hard to explain and I’ll most likely fail but I’ll try anyway.

I also deleted around 70 games or so from my library. All of these games were either bought or activated from giveaways some time ago when I wasn’t really picky. I was a massive pirate some time ago and when I joined Steam I hated having an empty library and I tried getting some games, without looking at what they are. Every indiegala giveaway, gleam.io giveaway I was there. Without questioning gameplay mechanics or my own tastes, I bought a bunch of games a lot of people highly recommended or even was generously gifted just cause aforementioned friends wanted me to play them.

Then, I started becoming picky. I always knew what I liked and enjoyed but I had already got to a point of not having an empty library so I could finally slowly focus on games I truly want to play. Then I started looking at the games I already had in my library. I started researching them, watching gameplay videos and stuff. I realised that I am not interested in majority of them. I don’t call the games I deleted trash. There were actually some very highly acclaimed games in there but they are not for me. They don’t reflect my library the way I want to see it and they don’t reflect my gaming interests.

There is always the argument of “you can hide it”. It should be understood that not everyone will feel comfortable with that. Hiding works for some people, but for me it won’t. Cause I know that game is there in my library even if it’s being hidden and it’ll continue to bother me. I just want them gone even though I’m aware that deleting games through Steam support doesn’t truly make it gone as you can always take it back but still, it’s the better option than hiding those games.

Before my purging process I felt like I was suffocating and that my library felt like it didn’t belong to me. I don’t want to turn into “I have too many games but nothing to play” type of people. Maybe this might even sound quite silly to some people; for me to associate the two. But I do. That’s how I see it with my own eyes regarding my own library. Again, I need to make sure to let you know that I’m strictly speaking about me and my own library. I don’t police or judge anyone else’s libraries, they are free to do whatever that works for them.

Once the games were deleted, I actually felt like I could breathe again and I smiled when I looked at my library. Whatever game I pointed at I could scream “I WANT TO PLAY THAT SO MUCH!”. I couldn’t do that with its previous state. I hope this reply was somewhat helpful in your research.

Ps, about 50 or so of the games were deleted prior to me joining BLAEO. I, personally, don’t delete stuff to make my BLAEO pie chart fancier. That would be lying to myself because then it wouldn’t display my backlog progress effectively and I would get lost in the process of tracking it.

Spirit

I don’t think you failed. At least I hope not because I think I got it and I would feel a bit silly otherwise. From the answers I’ve gotten so far, it looks like I’m just not as emotionally invested in my library and the way it could reflect on my person or as concerned about playing everything I own to be bothered about deleting games. I can also imagine laziness and general comfort level regarding organization being a factor even if no one explicitly has mentioned this so far :)

I have to ask though. Do you think you’d be as passionate about your library and achievements if they were strictly private?

Again, I need to make sure to let you know that I’m strictly speaking about me and my own library. I don’t police or judge anyone else’s libraries, they are free to do whatever that works for them.

I think this is a good attitude to adopt. I’m frequently seeing remarkably judgmental comments regarding peoples likes and dislikes on SG and Steam.

Whatever game I pointed at I could scream “I WANT TO PLAY THAT SO MUCH!”.

This sounds awesome. It would be cool to be this passionate about games even though I suspect it’s a wee bit hyperbole on your part :)

Forsaken

I’m glad I could articulate my thoughts :)

I don’t understand what you mean about laziness. Please feel free to elaborate on that. I’ll refrain from saying anything about that because I’m scared of there being a misunderstanding.

Do you mean a private profile? Yes I’d be just as passionate. I play games for me, I gain achievements for me. I don’t do it for show or for anyone else. I regularly look at my profile to see how far I came, it makes me smile sometimes to see the numbers, to have my library in order. I love taking a trip down on memory lane so I regularly keep track of my progress, my past updates/blog posts etc because I like re-experiencing my growth in terms of gaming. Setting it to private wouldn’t change a thing for me.

I really can’t stand judgmental people regarding what games they like, what kind of backlog killing strategy they use, how they categorise their games etc etc so on and on. Someone called me a bored housewife because I liked playing HoGs. People like that can be very annoying to deal with or even ignore sometimes cause even if you think you are ignoring their words online by not replying to them, they could still hurt you on the inside which is often the case with me. (You as in generally, not “you” you.)

I am a literal person and I very very very rarely use sarcasm or such exaggerations and I use it with people whom I’m very close friends with on a personal level. I didn’t use sarcasm there :) I am actually that excited to try out my games :) I admit that some games make me excited more than the others but I’m excited about all of them nonetheless except the ones in my completion rate downers list cause those were mistakes I made in the past when I wasn’t as picky and careful as I am now :(

Spirit

The laziness part is a just a reflection on one my own, rather defining, characteristics that may have some part in why I’m not bothered enough to “clean” my library.

I mean private in the sense that there was never an option to share in the first place. The reason I’m asking is that there’s research indicating that people would be a lot less interested in abroad vacation trips if they weren’t allowed to tell others about them and I feel like this is something that could very well come into play on these topics as well. I think it’s great that you’re able to feel as passionate as you do for your very own sake :)

So, this is your way of subtly telling me you don’t regard me as a very close friend then? ;)

I just figured you might have exaggerated a wee bit to drive your point home but if this is how you feel about your games it must be amazing :)

Forsaken

Oh alright :)

I definitely understand what that research is talking about. I can certainly see how it pertains here as well. I saw this suggestion regarding slowly quitting achievement hunting: hide the showcase. Again it wouldn’t work for me because I already know it, it’s already in my head. Not showing it to others on my profile won’t change a thing. Same as games I don’t want to play being in my library. I felt like the research you mentioned is also rather relevant regarding achievement showcase as well as other profile related stuff.

Oh come on :P Well honestly we don’t know each other that much and me using sarcasm towards people I don’t know very well and who don’t know me very well could backfire because in my experience it did backfire a lot :( I’m just trying to be direct and straightforward with people whom I don’t often come into contact with so they can fully understand what I’m trying to describe and don’t misunderstand me. Sadly it still fails cause sometimes people can think I’m being rude or hostile (an actual word that was recently used to describe me here on BLAEO) :P To be honest, it’s really hard to talk to people whether you use sarcasm or honesty :D

Yea I really love my library. There are some heartbreaks regarding achievements but I can’t wait to play the unplayed ones and once the backlog is over, I have plans for the already completed/beaten games cause I want to re-experience them. I wish we could forget our first experience with a game, I would do that and replay my library like it’s the first time again :D I hope I never lose this passion towards my library and gaming overall :)

Spirit

If you’re interested in learning a bit more about how the brain works and behavioral science, in general, I would recommend Thinking, Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman. Kahneman is referencing the vacation research I mentioned in his book and it’s a good read in general imho.

There’s also Your Deceptive Mind: A Scientific Guide to Critical Thinking Skills a collection of lectures by Professor Steven Novella which should be an amazing eye-opener to just about anyone regarding how little control we generally have over the primitive parts of our brain. It’s available at audible with a free trial subscription and I wholeheartedly recommend a listen to anyone even remotely interested in rational critical thinking. Ever since discovering this book I can’t help but chuckle at statements like “I’ve seen it with my own eyes” and “I clearly remember”

I know, I’m just teasing regarding close friends :P I know how you feel though. I’m rather socially inept myself and I generally don’t care much for pleasantries so I have no trouble understanding that people are finding me rather unpleasant at times. I’m regularly accused of being passive-aggressive though it’s not my intention. Communication is hard :D

I also hope that you’ll never lose your passion :)

Forsaken

I’m really interested in the brain particularly and rational critical thinking. If I was a doctor I’d definitely go for neurology to understand it better :D Wikipedia is banned in my country but I’ll definitely follow up on that research because I found it very interesting, thanks a lot for providing the name of the books, authors and mentioning the research. I feel like the whole research is very relevant to how people are living their lives currently (advertising themselves and their lives) and this interests me even though that kind of lifestyle is not for me. Maybe it could help me communicate with them more effectively though.

I definitely understand it. It is never my intention to be hostile or rude so it hurts being called those things. I wish you didn’t know how it felt as well cause it sucks :(

I also forgot to say that I wish people were that passionate about their games too. I know I’m repeating myself here but “I have too many games but nothing to play” type of situation is something I find really heartbreaking. I’m sad that those people lost their passion. They deserve to enjoy their gaming habits and those games deserve to be enjoyed :(

Spirit

Oh, Wikipedia is banned? That’s odd. Anyway, Kahneman is quite known and you shouldn’t have any trouble acquiring a copy. Unless he’s also banned for some reason. Your Deceptive Mind is probably better for you though with your particular interest.

It’s actually more confusing than bothering when people get upset or feel I’m being an ass. That said, there are a couple of times I’ve gotten pretty worked up over what seems to me being silly misunderstandings. This is most likely something that happens to everyone though, regardless of social aptitude :)

It’s good to have passion in life but it’s also important to have balance. I’ve been very passionate about my Guild involvement in both WoW and LotRO but in hindsight I know it was mostly because of the wrong reasons.

Forsaken

Well I live in a very stupid country so stuff like that are pretty normal here now :( Thanks a lot for the recommendations.

I hate misunderstandings so much. I’ve had my fair share of arguments because of them. So much for trying to be direct and honest with people to avoid them :P Then they think you have all these hidden agendas and you are like some monster in a human skin and make you look like the worst person on the planet.

It’s actually insane that I talked this much, this should say a lot about how well and respectably you hold a conversation because once things go astray I just leave and not reply to not make anything worse and get sad about the things that have been said for days.

I meant passion before it becomes an obsession or addiction like in my case. I think it’s perfectly possible to be passionate about something and balance it in one’s life with all the other things that are going on. I also think life would be so empty without passions :)

Spirit

The balance thing was more a reflection on my own tendency to get a little too engaged at times. It’s usually all or nothing for me, at least it used to be. These days I’m a little more mindful when it looks like things are starting to get out of hand. I can imagine my life being a wee bit less passionate because of this but at least it’s a conscious decision on my part :)

Selby

I know it is sad… that’s why I always thought you used the term with distance. If I had to describe you (specifically your “fangirlism”) I would use “passionate”, not fangirl, and never saw you as being dumb for it - in case this wasn’t clear in my previous comment. But it’s great you use it, you’re taking it back :)

WoW helped me a lot in difficult moments of my life too. Sometimes I wonder how it would have turned out had I never played this game. Met incredible people on it, some of them I still talk to on a daily basis. They have been close friends for the last 8 years… so yeah, I can easily believe you.

I did think of going back to WoW, yes. But I always had a hard time controlling myself on it, so I probably won’t. Another month to go and I won’t have time anyway! But I do take a look at your screenshots quite often since you’ve linked it to me some time ago, and yes your passion is spreading :)

Forsaken

I’m sorry I didn’t understand what you meant by “using the term with distance”. Could you please kindly explain it a bit further? I hope that’s okay :) I know you didn’t call me dumb even though it can be misunderstood that way if someone assumed the worst in you, but I didn’t.

It’s awesome you had long lasting friendships from the game. Mine always ended once I took a break from the game despite trying to talk to them on other social channels like Skype etc. I’m happy you liked the screenshots, I love sharing them with people too.

Selby

I think I’ve “englished” a french expression with this one! I meant : I thought you used the term with some irony, some 2nd degree (hope this one exist in english too!).
I should re-read what I write… I’m glad you didn’t take it the wrong way, I’ve noticed it way too late to correct it (actually you were the one drawing my attention to it). And for what it’s worth, if I thought you were, I wouldn’t be here, time is way too precious to waste on people not worth it.

I’ve lost some friends the same you did though… talked a little when I or they stopped but we ended up not talking at all…

Forsaken

I am not a native English speaker so I don’t know if such an expression exists, I never heard of it if it does exist. I also still don’t understand what you mean by “using it with irony”. :D If I called myself a fangirl ironically it’d mean that I’m the exact opposite, like a hater, which therefore would make the use of the term fangirl ironic. At least that’s the meaning I would be getting from this. I think it wouldn’t be a bad thing to let this matter go :P

Sadly some people for whatever reason don’t find the urge to continue their friendships that they made in a game once a person takes a break or quits the game. Yes the friendship started with such a common interest but if it’s indeed a “friendship”, to me it means it became more than just about one or two games you played together. So when you are simply removed or dropped from their life cause you quit (or took a break from) a game, then it was just fake friendship. I don’t feel sad for losing those people. I had an amazing time with them in the game but apparently it was only limited to the game. Good riddance ;)

Selby

I see my: write a reply, close the window before hitting “send” as a sign of “Let it go” :D
You know what?! Screw this!
What I meant was: I thought you were using the term as an exaggeration of your passion for Illidan. My use of the term “irony” was quite off :D Though I have to say irony doesn’t rely necessarily on saying the opposite of what you mean - but yeah, in this case there wasn’t much room for other interpretations…
Actually what I was thinking about was this, and in my messed up mind it went: specific term I forgot but belonging in what is highly used in irony figures of speech… okay let’s called this “irony”. Sorry about that, I tend to forget people are not in my head following my train of thoughts…
Now, my OCD is fulfilled, I’ll shut up! :)

I agree with ou on this one! Sometimes you’re just having a good time on a game and it wasn’t meant to be more than that. I’m still grateful for those moments, we had fun! And sometimes I found myself in situations where we actually had not much to talk about besides WoW, so yeah, not worth it, I guess…
I’m not sure I’ll call it fake friendship, although I don’t know how was your relation to those people… I see friendship as some sort of a love relationship, with the same ways to end it. Be it meeting other persons, moving far away… There’s not many people I call “friends”, but the few I have, I love to no end. The friends I’ve met on WoW weren’t “friends” to me when we were playing. I mean we would spent days playing, farming, raiding and we had fun, but it wasn’t until we all stopped and went on with our lives that I realized they were much more than a good healer and a pretty nasty DD. They stayed when I hit rock bottom and wasn’t much fun to hang out with. Hell, they’re still here…

You are rocking this! Keep doing what you do :^) !!!

Forsaken

Aww, thank you so much :) Looking forward to reading your updates too. I noticed that I wasn’t even a member here when you posted your last update :(

CrazyGuacamole

I was busy/lazy was school and everything haha. Now I have some time again to sit down and clear that backlog :^) It kinda amazed how much the group has grown! You beautiful assassins make this group one of the best!

Forsaken

Good luck with your studies and have fun with your backlog :) Welcome back to BLAEO and you are one of those beautiful assassins too :)

Lorna

Your profile looks awesome! I love it! :D
And I’m so happy to see you enjoying WoW and posting all the screenshots.

I think being a fanboy/fangirl is a positive thing as it shows people how much you enjoy something or someone.

Forsaken

Thank you Lornarghh :) It’s nice to see you here :P

I see it as positive too. It’s nice to have passions in life.

Lorna

Yeah I’ve been slacking with updates. I’m so bad. I’m just so busy that when I do have time to play a game/ write an update I’m too tired. I’m hoping next month everything will be back to normal-ish.

Forsaken

No you aren’t bad at all. I can definitely understand the “too tired” part. I always have to force myself to write anything, worry about the codes and post formatting. It’s tiring in itself and I’m always tired myself too.

I hope things will get back on track for you so you can get some rest and relax a little. Life is way too hectic :/ We all need a break.

Tristar

Did you ever play Warcraft 3?

And I always wanted to directly ask someone affected: Do you know about your astats profile being unavailable and if so, why?

Forsaken

I grew up with Warcraft 3. I played all Warcraft games and that’s what made me become obsessed with the lore. If it wasn’t for Warcraft 3, I wouldn’t be playing World of Warcraft because I really don’t like MMOs.

I am aware of it being unavailable because I asked for its deletion. It’s possible to ask them to delete accounts by opening a topic about it on Astats Steam page. I’m using TrueSteamAchievements instead.

miroe250

I was wondering about your Astat page as well, now I have the answer :)
Sorry for stalking :D

Forsaken

You can stalk as much as you want :) I never used Astats, I only ever had it because Wallister had an achievement related event and I don’t remember him accepting TrueSteamAchievements links, only Astats if I remember correctly. I never used it again anyway so might as well just delete it :)

Tristar

I searched through the text for “3” but didn’t find any, so I wondered ^^
Ever played competitive/mp? I loved watching pro esport matches on it.

Why did you delete the Astats profile instead of just leaving it? Not like it stopped you from using other sites? ;-)

Forsaken

I mentioned “playing Warcraft games” as in Warcraft as a franchise. I thought that should have covered it :) I maybe should have added “all”. I didn’t play multiplayer because I don’t like multiplayer games. I love the campaign and the story. Multiplayer doesn’t have any part in it for me anyway :)

Because I don’t want some profile of me on a website that I am not using. I always delete or deactivate my profiles when I’m leaving cause I’m not comfortable with leaving a piece of me there.

miroe250

I was wondering why I’m not seeing new updates from you in BLAEO, now I know WoW is the reason :D. Never understood how people play that game, I mean it’s huge time consuming machine which always demanding more and more, and the fact that youi need to pay for playtime is minus for me, I can compare it to drugs. However as far you are enjoying it and people enjoying it my opinion is going to stay just for myself. I’m curious to know how many hours do you have in WoW in total, feel free not to answer if you don’t want to. Nice progress in your steam backlog as well, I tried Another World recently, didn’t like it at all because of the same reason you did’t as well. Since it’s SG win I would probably going to force myself to atleast beat it.
If you wonder what I’m currently playing(grinding) Mafia 2 is the answer. Damn stupid achievemnts T_T. Both DLCs are complete garbage, I really hate them. Only 4 left, tho.
Really hope your family health problems to be resolved soon and with happy end :)

Forsaken

It’s so nice to hear from you Miroe :) Thanks a lot for tagging along here.

WoW is not the only reason. There are actually a number of reasons why I don’t write updates frequently. Some are personal, some I can share in public like “coding takes too much time”.

I 100% agree about WoW’s subscription system. People are already paying for the games themselves, it’s pretty sad to pay to have access to the content as well. However, for me Warcraft is a passion and an obsession. It’s the only reason I’m playing WoW, to continue being a part of the world I’ve been in since childhood. Sadly they won’t make any more Warcraft games so WoW is the only thing I have that can connect me to that universe. To answer your question I had around 15.000 hours prior to getting the 7 day free subscription and one month of subscription gift. I’m pretty sure I’ve sunk about 400 or more hours into it during that time because believe me I really did play it for like 16-17 hours a day.

Funny story, I thought Another World was a point and click adventure game. That’s the only reason I bought that tier 1 on Humble Bundle and activated it. I didn’t check gameplay, only screenshots and it really gave me a point and click vibe. Oh how wrong I was. I got an achievement fairly early on in the game and then had to force myself to finish it. I hated it so much :( Good luck to you, really. I wish you patience too. I strongly suggest using a controller if you have it.

Mafia 2 DLCs have the worst achievements. Drive 1000 miles achievement alone took me around 30 hours :/ I wish that particular achievement also counted the miles you traveled in base game, not only the stupid DLC that’s like 2 hours long…. I wish you patience with them too :(

Thanks a lot for the nice wishes :) These days haven’t been easy at all but we’re trying to cope.

My dear,

Your happiness makes me happy. Your lovely update is also, as everyone else has already pointed out, quite fantastic. This really does makes me want to come back rushing to BLAEO.

You’re a kind person, a great friend and a marvelous writer. Keep doing what you do, being passionate about what you are and fangirling hardcorely. Count on me for anything you’d like. If it’s within my power to help you, it will be done.

<3

Thank you so much for everything Coraline. I truly and wholeheartedly mean this :)

I learned a lot from you and tried to incorporate what I could into the formatting. I couldn’t even change banner/tab colours and text colours inside banners/tabs before, yet I can do them now. Instant Eyedropper software you mentioned has also helped me tremendously and I can finally “justify” my fonts all thanks to you! :D

You are a wonderful person yourself having all the amazing qualities a person should have to make the world a great place :) Keep being you and thanks for existing and being in my life :)
