June 2020
Honestly I'm pretty surprised with myself this month. June 2020 is so far my best BLAEO month and it's a nice coincidence that it is also my 1st anniversary of joining the site! My first-ever monthly post was in June 2019. (Don't tell anyone but there are still games from that month which I haven't played/beaten. I'm especially looking at you Hollow Knight and Big Pharma.)
Now, that aside, like I was saying, June 2020 is my best month here so far. I've beaten 8 games! 8 games off the backlog! And only 1 addition. (Actually I got 2 but I played 1 of them, so...) I'm not sure if I can replicate this kind of progress in July, but even if I don't, I'll be happy.

This was a gift from a reddit user and it's one of the first new games of 2020 for me.
I'd started it once, but then gave up on it because it was kind of hard for me to play. But when I continued it, it didn't feel as hard anymore, and after finishing it, I can say that it's not really a hard game. There is a hard mode but of course I didn't play that. Why play in hard mode when you can choose easy? ;)
I'm very bad at platformers, and Wenjia proves that. I still enjoyed it a lot, even though I had some issues at parts. I was trying to 100% the game but the last 2 achievements are kind of impossible to do for me, so I'll leave it at 11/13.
The game's English translation is kind of bad, and the voice-over feels dead (in the sense that it doesn't have much of liveliness in it). But I didn't care much for the story, so it didn't bother me a lot.
I enjoyed switching between the worlds--it was a fun mechanic to play around with! and both worlds were pretty, imo.
I'm finally done with Portia!
For now.
Apparently there's another update coming in a few months, so I'll be going back to it (hopefully) to play that.
But for now, it's done. I was hoping to 100% the game but the romance achievements are too much to handle, imo, and the game itself became kind of boring after finishing the main storyline. I wish I did some of the romance stuff while playing the story, but I didn't because I was focused on the story and after that it wasn't as fun anymore.
Because with the story there are challenges, for example there will be commerce commissions which requires some items you don't have. But at the point of me completing the story, I had a lot of resources and items, and none of the commissions take me long to do--which makes them repetitive rather than a challenging (sometimes annoying) but engaging task.
Anyways. Enough of that.
I really enjoyed playing this game. I understand it won't be for all, but for me I liked it a lot. It's not better than Stardew Valley but I really liked the "building" and "mining" aspect of the game. And there are a lot of NPCs! I liked getting to know some of them too. (I'm looking at you, Arlo :P)
The art style is weird for some but I didn't mind it. It's not the best, but I didn't care much about it.
It's officially the second most-played game on my Steam profile and I'm glad I caved in last year and bought it during a GMG sale instead of waiting for the price to get lower. Because it did--when I bought it, the lowest it went down to was 30% off, right now I think it's down to 60% off. But then I wouldn't experience it the same way I did.
I'm definitely looking forward to more games from Pathea.
This game was updated a few times since I played and completed it back in 2019, and 36 new levels were added. I played those. I'm not adding it to "Beaten in 2020" for obvious reasons but it's still part of my completions in June.
This was really good. I wasn't expecting it to be so good, but it was.
I don't even remember how I learned of this game or how I decided to purchase it, but I'm glad I did. And I'm also glad I decided to start playing it once I needed something longer to play after beating Portia.
I couldn't 100% the achievements because several of them are from the DLC, Road to Gehenna, and I missed one early in the game. After that I didn't bother much.
It has 3 different endings and thanks to the feature which allows you to restore an earlier version of the game, I was able to play all three of them. But I think only one of them is the "real" ending, in a way. The other two leave a lot of questions while that one ending kind of confirms some of the assumptions or suspicions.
Some of the puzzles were really hard and I definitely needed walkthroughs more than once. But there were times in which even though I struggled a lot, I didn't use a walkthrough and managed to do it by myself. I enjoyed the challenge. Also, I like how the game is so philosophical and forces you to "think outside the box", literally at times. Such a good game.
I tried hard to 100% this game, but there's a speedrun achievement and it's broken.
Apparently you need to delete some files first and then complete the game under 1 hour again to get it. I did it, but for some reason it didn't trigger in my first try. I tried a second time, but this time I died… at the very end of the game. I've played this game for 4 times now, and I'm really tired of it.
At the first 2 playthroughs it was a very fun game. I like the story and I like the way it's told. The game is meant to be played 2 times. There are things which won't unlock in your first run and most of the achievements are only possible in the second run.
I also really enjoyed the voice-acting. I realized Jack is voiced by Jacksepticeye right away, but I had no idea Felix was actually voiced by Pewdiepie. When I listened closely during my second run, I still couldn't identify Felix's voice tbh. Bo is really cute.
It became tiring after I started attempting to get that one last achievement. I'm not going to attempt it again. The game can be completed around 30 mins. very easily--it's a shame that the achievement is bugged.
This was very boring and really hard to sit through.
I'm sure there's a decent (or perhaps engaging) story behind all that waiting I had to do.
I understand it's kind of the point of the game that it's so slow, but… nothing really happened.
I'm just glad it's over.
I really wasn't expecting to enjoy Tomb Raider as much as I did. I'm around 45% done with the game, so it's bound to show up in next month's wrap-up post.
I tried to play more of Glass Masquerade 2... I'm really hoping to finish playing at one point. But the thing is, I really want to 100% it and since I played the puzzles in easy (until a week or so back), I need to replay most of them to get some of the achievements. So there is more work to do there, haha.
I also checked out 10 Second Ninja X. It looks like it'll be fun to play, but it also seems kind of hard... so I'm not sure if I'll play it soon. I might just play a few levels every few days and beat it after a few months or something.
It was my birthday a few days back and a friend of mine sent Ori and the Blind Forest as a gift on Steam.
Also, I was hoping to buy a few games from the summer sale. I was scared that I'll go and buy a bunch of games like I did last year but this year... the sale isn't that great for me. None of the games on my wishlist are so discounted that I want to get them immediately. I looked and looked and looked, but couldn't find a single game that I'm dying to buy right now. My most wanted games aren't even on sale. (Looking at you, Temtem.) So yeah. It was rather easy not to buy anything.
I'm still hoping to get 1-2 games before the sale ends, but I'm not sure if I will.
I also didn’t really like The stillness of the wind… It was super weird and sad, for lack of better words and the gameplay was tedious… and then it ended even more dramatically. I don’t even know.
Also I think the Portia big update is coming up… This month? (well technically next month)
The Stillness of the Wind is simply a mistake. I mean, I’m glad I didn’t pay for it… but I’m also regretting ever being interested in it.
I’m looking forward to Portia’s big update! I really want to do some of the romance achievements but without any story they’re tedious.
I feel like The Stillness of the Wind is one of those wannabe artsy “experience” more than a game, but this one was kind of a miss for me. Thankfully it was short even if it felt agonizingly long.
I’m hoping that big update will get be back into portia too as I got bored after a while, so that would be the perfect occasion to finish it.
I played The Stillness of the Wind some months ago, and it left me very frustrated. I remember at the beginning playing it as if I was playing Portia or Stardew (quickly collecting milk, making chese, etting eggs… trying to make the most of my day), and then nothing. It felt tedious, very slow, and at the end I just played it to finish it.
I’m sure part of my soul died while playing that. I was just so. bored.
It wasn’t ending either. 3 hours of my life I’ll never get back.
It left you frustrated… AND THEN YOU MADE ME PLAY IT. eyes
I didn’t want to experience the trauma alone! I had to share the frustration with somebody
LOL. Such good friendship!
