Completed Sparkle 2 Evo. (5th game for the monthly theme)
I had started it some months ago but then I paused it with no real motive, perhaps because it was a letdown.
I'm not telling it's a bad game but I was expecting something like Feeding Frenzy (loved the 2nd) with a cooler graphic.
And while the graphic is good, the playability is not on par. While FF2 (nope, not Final Fantasy) is a 2D with a side view, S2E is a 2D with a top view, with the possibility to go deeper water or come back toward the surface, like a "layered" 3D (think of it as a building where you start on top but can move between floors taking the stairs/elevator).
The problem with this top view is that you don't understand whether you can pass under a "rock" or not (partially graphic's fault too).
Furthermore, there's something off in controls/movements.. maybe a bit of delay, sometimes it felt like the creature was slowed down. And collisions made it act strange at times (like being unresponsive and swimming abnormally fast after being thrown way out of the playing area).
Other than the normal levels there are two "bosses" to beat. Understand what to do to beat them is way more difficult than for normal enemies. Special mention for the octopus which I had to look for guides and videos 'cause I couldn't beat it. Even after the internet's help I struggled, mostly because level it's in a sort of 3D but the commands are tied to the 2D levels (kinda hard to explain). After being sent out of the playing area here too (a couple of times) I finally managed to take the boss down. Back to the normal levels, I was stuck on the first "layer" of water, unable to descend into deeper ones; not sure but I think both food and enemies didn't spawn but, again, I'm not sure of this. Had to restart the game to be able to play. Nothing serious but it it'd be better if didn't happen at all.
Toward the end I reached the final stage of evolution with 3 levels still unexplored. Played them anyway, hoping for some kind of ultimate form but nothing happened. Perhaps I have to complete my DNA sequence first (never happening, don't even know if it's possible).
YAY! I'm on a roll! ..but I think I'll have to slow down a bit for now 'cause things to do are piling up =P
Starting to think this month theme wasn't a good choice.. I mean, if I play all my relaxing games now I won't have any in the future! =P
Anyway, I'll try to beat some other if I can (between those who have an ending I've already started Lyne, Splice, Strata, Unium and Zen Bound 2.)

Removed the background 'cause it wasn't blending in as expected. In the first comment you can see the original post with the wanted layout.
