Hi guys, this time I come with a shorter post of a couple games I recently started and a few others I forgot to include in my last update Also a couple things not really about backlog games, but that I do think are relevant to mention as they will have some impact on my backlog slaying. First, let me tell you that the other day I finally fixed my old laptop (to which I managed to fry the motherboard somehow) so, that I means I will be playing games on the go now as well, indie games and old titles more than anything else since it’s not a gaming laptop, just a regular one.
The games that I forgot to include in my last update are:
This is a very nice, although very much linear, point and click, with a very particular pixel art style. The story is nothing extraordinay, but it's not bad neither, you follow the steps of young woman who is in a hurry to finish composing a song while also trying to deal with some more personal issues.
The game has some fun achievements, I got most of them already but one that I have absolutely no idea how to get. Maybe I'll try getting it later, but sicne I don't own any of the other chapters I'm not in any kind of hurry. I think I'll buy the rest of the episodes in the future as I did like the first one, but not until they get a decent discount.
Those were all the games I forgot to include in my last update, one game I recently bought and just started playing is LUFTRAUSERS:
Very basic, but refined 2d bullethell shooter, you have a plane and a few tasks/objectives to complete at a time, while you progress you unlock better parts (weapons, engine, armour) for your plane, each part gives you different taks, and that's the way you progress/level up and go unlocking more stuff. There's not really a story to it, you just go out and destroy as much as you can in one go, and then go at it again, and again, and again...
Real nice art style and amazingly good mechanics for a game of this kind, 8/10.
Finally, just yesterday I got some weird pain in my thumb, and I took some pills and it kind of went away, but it’s still there, I’m gonna go visit the doctor on monday to check it out, but just to be sure I’ll be taking a few days (maybe a few weeks) off of any kind instense gaming, to give some well deserved rest to my fingers. No matter how good a game is, it’s just not worth risking your health for it. In the meantime I’ll be taking care of my book and movies/tv shows backlogs, farewell my friends!
Goat simulator - Nope, you mostly do just run around getting different unlocks and laughing at silly jokes. There are collectibles, and some of the dlc packs have more structured challenges you can do, but it’s basically one big joke. I enjoyed it though and found it pretty funny.
I see, that’s what I suspected, yeah, it’s still kind of fun I guess, like GTA but for when you literally just wanna fool around?
Yup pretty much. It’s a very well put together joke. I know around the time GS came out there was a flurry of other joke games like grass simulator, or rock simulator. And they kind of missed the point as they were just literally ‘do nothing’ simulators. GS goes to a lot of effort in building the world and the framework around the jokes, especially in some of the DLC, so the devs did work hard in providing something fun. Like the ‘fake’ mmorpg with fake people chatting like they do in real mmo’s or gathered together doing quests. Or the payday one, where you do ‘jobs’ that are basically just pranks.
The funniest jokes are when you find the coffee stain studios in the maps. Very ‘meta’ and self aware. Like them crying over a projection of negative steam reviews for goat simulator.
So yeah it’s ridiculous but it’d say the jokes are ‘in the game’ more than it just being the existence of the game itself.
Hope you get well soon =)
Thank you ^^
Oh no! Hope your thump is better soon!
Apart from visiting a doc and taking pain killers (or assassins? :]), training is the only thing I can suggest :] :P
Have a great week!
Thanks :)
Yeah, I guess I never considered that before, let’s see what the doctor says first tho…
Have a great week as well!
I hope your thumb gets better! There’s a lot of different stretches you can do to alleviate pain in your thumb/hand/wrist, and they’re super important to do. I also have some braces I bought that I put on at the end of the day when my wrist has been aching from work and then playing games at home. Listen to your doctor and I hope things work out.
I’m glad you liked the Lion’s Song - I played the next chapter and the particular system of the game is fleshed out more. I liked it quite a lot.
Thanks! Mind linking me somewhere I can see what those stretches are, or read about it? Let’s see what the doc has to say tomorrow, hopefully nothing that can’t be fixed with rest and some meds.
Yeah, I specially liked the story, Wilma was really charming, it’s nice to hear that, I’m really looking forward to playing the rest of the episodes.
Shit, I had a really good video that explains the wrist stretching that I super liked but I can’t find it. There’s a lot of good places to start if you google ‘best stretches for wrist pain’ or ‘carpal tunnel stretches’, a lot of specific ‘gamer’ stretches, too.
My personal favorite is, when sitting up or standing, placing my palms together in front of my chest like I’m praying, and slowly lowering them down to my navel, as low as I can go and still keep my palms flat together. That really opens up the wrist ligaments - I know that’s not your problem area, but they’re all connected.
Another one I like specifically for thumbs is to hold both arms out in front of me, with my knuckles out to the sides (like I’m holding a pole or a sword or some shit, vertical-like). Then, I tuck my thumbs inside my fists (like you’re NOT supposed to do when punching somebody) and slowly tilt my fists forward. It stretches out the ligament along the side of my thumb. That might work better for you, kev.
These stretches often work best if you do them in reps - hold for ten seconds, rest for ten seconds, repeat ten times or some shit like that. Also work hard on discerning the ‘stretching’ sensation of tight ligaments vs. pain. You want to stretch those suckers out, not fuck them up more. Go slow, stop if it hurts.
Your doc will probably recommend a course like this - beyond rest and meds, which will certainly help, stretching often is pretty much the only way to keep your wrists and thumb healthy for a long life of gaming without pain
Hey, thanks a lot for the extensive reply, I’ve been trying some excercises the doc told me along with the meds and the pain is almost gone now, it’s still there so I don’t really use my right hand for almost anything these days, but it’s getting better.
I tried the excercises you describe as well, I liked the first one, feels awesome, and yeah, you’re right it is all connected, I even had back pain the first night I got this thing in my hand. The second one I tried and seems to be doing something as well, even tho I’m not enterily sure I’m doing it right haha
Thanks :)
I’m glad I can help! Good luck and stay healthy
