“Cleaning mission” 5th report:
I will stop to make plans about what i am going to play during following weeks because i never respect them for different reasons. It doesn’t stop me to progress in my backlog anyway :-)

  • Borderlands
    Borderlands

    43 hours playtime

    44 of 80 achievements

I completed the dlc “The secret armory of General Knoxx”, it took me 9 hours to finished it (secondary quests included). I didn’t enjoyed it so much because i am not a huge fan of vehicle phases, and there are very present in this dlc, but borderlands’ universe is still very funny.

  • BlazeRush
    BlazeRush

    4 hours playtime

    12 of 21 achievements

(SG Win): A nice local co-op game, unfortunately there is a bug with some graphic cards, as mine, which harm the experience. I will have to borrow a laptop to a friend or a member of my family to complete it.

  • Please, Don’t Touch Anything
    Please, Don’t Touch Anything

    2 hours playtime

    13 of 15 achievements

(SG Win): The concept of the game is very interesting and some endings are very spectacular. However, some endings are too difficult to obtain, and some puzzles are too complex to understand and to resolve, some extra clues would have been very much appreciated.

  • Swordbreaker The Game
    Swordbreaker The Game

    5 hours playtime

    67 of 67 achievements

(SG Win): A game based on “choose your own adventure books” principle with a beautiful art designs. Your behavior in the castle have an impact on the ending (3 different endings are possible). The major problem of the game is the story which is not very developped.

  • Adam Wolfe
    Adam Wolfe

    6 hours playtime

    27 of 27 achievements

(SG Win / Monthly theme): It’s the first HOG game that i completed and i liked it. It is most an hybrid between a HOG game and an adventure game than a pure HOG game, but it’s a good way to discover this type of game. The story is very intersting (excepting the ending which is only here to keep a door open for a sequel), and the gameplay is quite dynamic during action scenes.

  • Crystals of Time
    Crystals of Time

    3 hours playtime

    no achievements

(SG Win / Monthly theme): After Adam Wolfe i wanted to try an another HOG game, and the only one in my steam account is Crystals of Time, a old SG win. I was a bit disapointing by it: the story is not very developped, you have to come back to the same place to many times, it’s difficult to know where to go without using the crystal. However i found this type of gameplay very pleasant, it combines very well with a good podcast.

  • Puzzles At Mystery Manor
    Puzzles At Mystery Manor

    5 hours playtime

    no achievements

(SG Win): There is 40 jigsaw in this game, unfortunately they are not very diversified. All puzzles contain a skull and different elements in the background. I met a save problem which tarnished the experience, when i restarted the game i have to complete again some puzzles which i already did.

To conclude, i want to thanks ninglor03 for this month’s theme, before i thought HOG games was boring and destinated to people who are older than I am, but now i understand people interest for this type of game. I want to discover more HOG games and i need your advice to avoid generic or mediocre games, thanks in advance for your assistance ;-)

Hey Rayal, nearly missed my name there… but then didn’t :D

Adam Wolfe is pretty unique for a HOG. At least that’s my experience so far. And yeah, I guess I have played a few so far :D
And I totally get, Crystals of Time might seem as a disappointment after Adam Wolfe! I mean, it was for me already kind of a disappointment and I haven’t played Adam Wolfe before it… and I have played some other bad ones. So, we might just say, that is not that good a HOG ;)
What kind of HOG to play? I would recommend the Artifex Mundi games. They are pretty good. Both for newbies as for long HOG players. Sure, they also have some not so great games, but having a bad Artifex game is mostly still better than having an average game from some other place (as I said, Adam Wolfe really is an exception!). I have recently played the Demon Hunter trilogy and am playing right now the last part from the Enigmatis trilogy. Enjoyed/enjoying both very much so far :)

As to HOGs are only played by older ppl….. I’m not yet 30 O.O
And I kinda see kids playing them as well. And ppl who like finding things and riddles and….
But I know what you mean. I was introduced to HOGs in my teens by my aunt. So… there we go. Older person giving it on to younger one :D

Have a great week!
Happy backlog/hog killing!

Ps: If you intend to fully participate in the monthly theme, would you mind listing your games here as completed? Thank you :]

Trent

Yes, it’s been a fantastic monthly theme, one of only a few I’ve participated in! And thanks to Ninglor03 and everybody who’s played at least one HOG to keep this theme running…and it’s only the 12th in the Western hemisphere!
