Xbox game pass for pc
Ok. Since I spent most of this month playing games from the Pc Pass, I decided to write a bit about it. I bit the bullet a couple weeks ago and subscribed. It costs $1 (It includes regional pricing options - I paid 25 cents instead of a dollar thanks to that) the first time you sub and the value is out of this world. I thought I’d wanna play 2-3 games, but there are many more I could see myself trying in the next couple months. Let me talk a bit about the games I’ve played this month:
-
Metro Exodus
This is the game that got me to sub, so I had to try this one first. Let me say that this game is amazing. It’s the best post-apocalyptic I’ve played and A LOT more immersive IMHO than Fallout 4 and others games in this subgenre. I’m not good explaining stuff, so I’ll leave this video here from Game Maker’s Toolkit where he talks about the game It’s really a shame so many people won’t even try this game because of the whole EGS vs Steam controversy. It does have some flaws: the story starts a bit slow, the second map is a bit too big for its own good and therefore might bore completionists. However, none of these small flaws, ruin the experience at all. Overall, it’s still an amazing game and a very solid 8 or 9 out of 10. It took me a week or so to beat it (13-16h, I’d say)

Guacamelee 2
It improves almost everything when compared to the first. The writing is even funnier. I laugh out loud at lot playing this game. The gameplay is still solid with a mix of combat and platforming. If anything, it’s a bit easier than the original. The “Git gud” yes, it’s called like that area is way easier. Same for achieving the true ending by collecting golden key pieces Another great game. (9-12h long)

Super Lucky’s tale
I didn’t like this game and stopped playing after the third level. The main character is awful to control. Very slow and clunky. It’s heavily inspired by Donkey Kong - you even collect letters to form his name -, but without anything that makes DK games so good. It’s probably longer, but I couldn’t get past the first hour. I do no recommend it.

Recore
I haven’t finished it yet, but I liked it so far. It’s definitely not the system seller MS might have expected, but it’s a decent game. Since I read Fnord’s post yesterday, let me warn you that this game is FULL of gates that won’t let you continue unless you go grind for a couple hours. You need to collect crystal balls to advance. If you focus on the main quest, you won’t have enough to open some vaults that are required to continue. I had like 17 balls and needed 30 to continue. I had to do a bunch of repetitive shit and I’m still missing 5. I just wanna hear the rest of the story. T_T
Overall, I’m quite happy with this offer. It has a few problems For example, by default, the game language is set to be the same your Windows 10 uses. For most MS Studios games that cannot be changed. I hadn’t play a game in portuguese for more than 10 years. It was weird. xD, but the insane value for your money more than makes up for that.
What about you guys, have you tried it? If you have, what should I play next? I appreciate suggestions! :)
[The controls in Super Lucky’s Tale are] very slow and clunky.
I’ll grant you slow, but can you define clunky? I actually really liked how the main character controls in that game: you move forward the instant you hold forward, and the instant you stop pushing forward, he stops moving forward. You can even snap the control stick in a different direction and Lucky instantly starts moving in that direction. That isn’t clunky; that’s responsive.
I also didn’t mind the slow movement since the level design is built around it, being quite compact.
I guess, it’s more about being slow than actually clunky tbh. The last full platformers I’ve played were DK Tropical Freeze and Celeste. Both of them are fast-paced and amazing games and I guess, they spoiled me. Anything slower than that feels clunky to me.
I agree with Traqie - you should play Forza! It has an insane amount of content and it’s really fun to play.
I was tempted to give up on Super Lucky’s Tale after a few levels as well, it just didn’t seem fun at all at the start. Luckily it got a bit better with time.
Btw, can I play Metro Exodus without playing the previous ones? My plan was to use the remaining days on my pass to play Vampyr but I found it too boring and dull so I need something else to play instead.
I’d say, yes. There are a few nods to the previous games here and there, like copies of the books you can find everywhere, but nothing major. I highly recommend Metro Exodus over Vampyr. The latter isn’t bad, but Metro is far superior overall.
I forgot to add that I don’t play fighting/racing games alone, I always save them for the weeks my brothers are here around xmas since these are the only 2 genres all of us enjoy. However, I do plan to try Forza when that happens. :)
I might give SLT another try down the road, but idk. It seems like a forgetable game.
Thanks, I’ll have to check how many days I have left on it to see if it’s possible for me to finish Metro! Very good to hear that I don’t need to play the others first. :)
It’s been mentioned a few times on my feed on Steam but I ignored it. I thought it was for xbox only (because xbox game pass XD). Looks like it’s not available in my country.
I guess they wanted to go with Xbox because of brand recognition for casuals, but pc folks will probably think the same.
It’s a shame, I hope they add more countries. It’s a very good service with an incredible bang for buck ratio.
It’s not available in my country either but luckily they only need a billing address from a country that does have it available. You don’t even have to change your PC/store region to download the games afterwards.
I hope it stays that way if they won’t make it available in certain countries later. Thanks for the info. :)
The controls for Super Lucky’s Tale are really on point.
however, right now, i probably wouldn’t recommend it either. It’s not a particularly creative game, there’s so much content, yet its not a memorable game.
Definitely not a memorable game. Probably one of the reasons it was the first MS games to appear on Steam.
Xbox game pass is really great value indeed, I directly went for a year.
As other said already, Forza is really fun to play. I have 60+ hours and just now I’m kinda done with it but I played it for nearly two months and it was the most fun I had this summer so far.
Sunset Overdrive is pretty cool too if you want an other fun and action game to pass time.
Hellblade is worth a playthrough as well. I didn’t enjoy it too much and won’t highly recommend it but it was an interesting experience. The fights were awesome though.
I tried My Time at Portia too, it’s a nice game so far but it seems to be a grindy game, if that’s your thing. It’s sort of like a Harvest Moon or Stardew Valley but in 3D. Some mission are a pain though and crafting is complicated pretty soon. Like you have to create new tools to make some specific mats to combine to finally build your bridge. It’s not really easy but it might be worth a try.
The Banner Saga should be a great option to play too and they have the trilogy. I only beat the first game so far but it was a really nice game. Interesting story, great battles. Might be worth a try too.
That’s all I tried yet. But I have Vampyr on my backlog. We Happy Few and SteamWorld Dig 2 as well as Guacamelee 2. I noticed they added the new Middle-earth Shadow of War, it should be a pretty great game too.
Seriously, it’s a really great offer. Though I have to admit, it’s totally killing my backlog and putting it in an impossible to beat state :’ )
Yeah, my backlog is in a sad state, but if you see the the glass as half full, you’re also reducing your future backlog since you’re playing games you were going to buy in the future! xD
My time at Portia was one of the games I was thinking about, but I’m not sure I wanna play a grindy game right now. Banner Saga 3 will probably be my next game. I already finished both prequels and I don’t wanna buy the third on steam.
I don’t know about the rest, but you should definitely try Guacamelee 2!
Overall, I’m quite happy with this offer. It has a few problems For example […]
I think all the weirdness that comes from Windows store games is what made me half-forget I signed up for the 1€ trial, so I ended up wasting it playing almost nothing >_>
I’m sure I’ll give it another try once The Outer Worlds comes out :3
If you like driving/racing games, you should definitely try Forza games. After that, maybe State of Decay 2? That’s all MS Store exclusives I can think of right now.
Perhaps Into the Breach, since you don’t own it on Steam from what I can see and it’s a pretty good game.
Into the Breach sounds interesting. I looked into State of Decay, but I’m really tired of zombies tbh. I should have added that I usually save racing/fighting games to play with my brother. Ops xD
Thanks for the suggestions!
