October 2023: Well, it’s certainly been a while hasn’t it?

Sooo….apparently the last time I actually updated my profile was the end of 2020. I would blame my lack of activity on COVID, except being stuck at home for 3 years really should have made things like updating gaming profiles easier rather than harder. Ah well. While I haven’t updated much recently, I did make fairly significant progress on my backlog! And added additional games that I haven’t played….win some, lose some I suppose. Here are the games that a quick review of my steam account and my own shoddy memory insist that I’ve played to completion over the last 3 years. Helpfully sorted into very random categories. Hopefully, I’ll get back into regular updates and actually have time to review some of the games I’ve played.

Finished for the Cheevos

The following are games which I had beaten but never achieved 100% completion. In some cases, because I originally played them on CD in the 90s. But I’ve gotten all the achievements now!

Topical Horror(ish) Games for Oct

These are games that I’ve completed that are at least horror-lite (e.g. someone on steam decided to add the horror tag to them).

Misc Other Games I’ve Completed

Other games that I remember playing in the sort-of recent past which I have 100% completed.

and for the final category….

Games I am Currently Playing

Previously, this section would have been titled “plan for November” or something similar, but I am not nearly optimistic enough about my chances of following through with a plan xD

robilar5500

That’s a nice list of games.

Trent

Wow, that’s some serious completion. Kudos!
And a lot of nice games, many of which I’ve played or at least have in the backlog.
Also added to whitelist since you play your wins. Sadly I’m not very active on SG, but it’s the thought that counts. :D

Tiajma

Haha thanks! Yeah, I add people to my whitelist a lot too and then mostly give away via groups or the discussion boards too. It’s definitely the thought that counts XD

You completed all of this in October? But you played most of it before? Looking at the hours, you would have to play non-stop through the month to get this done O.o

Man, you even managed to complete Hollow Knight. That no death achievement in the game is reason enough for me not to buy it ^^’ Also, nice to see someone else going for full completions. Looking specifically at RE1. Have to do that one too. After finally finishing RE0 this year, I started RE1 and thought I can do it directly. No, it lies around again and I need to muster motivation to get back to it. And this is me liking these games. Well, for now I will complete RE4 and then slowly close the gap (ignoring RE3).

Tiajma

Oh god, no, these are games I’ve played since my last update on this website back in…Dec 2020 lol. So over a time span of 3 years. I just came back to the site after a long hiatus and decided to do a general round-up of my backlog progress. The first category listed were games that I had previously beaten but not gotten all the achievements for, so I went back to mop up the ones I hadn’t gotten yet. It would have been quite a feat to have gotten all that done in one month XD

Hollow Knight was a pain to 100% for sure but was super rewarding once it was finished. But looking at your amazing completion stats, I can’t blame you for not buying it! I wouldn’t want to mess up that completion rate either. I actually found RE1 got easier as I got closer to completion. It’s a game really designed to teach you how to get better at it as you play, so once you hit your stride it gets more fun–or at least it did for me. By the time I did the invisible enemies mode, I felt so confident with the game that I sailed through that final playthrough and felt really accomplished at the end.

Any reason you’re skipping RE3? It was a pretty easy completion and not nearly as bad a remake as people complain. Yeah, it was more action-y than puzzle-based which was a shame, but it was still a fair amount of fun. Good luck on RE4 (the remake I assume?). I just completed the original but I don’t own the remake yet. Definitely on my wishlist though. Gotta 100% BG3 first though :D

That makes a lot more sense ^^ Well, I have seen people who have managed to complete 50 - 100 games in one month. But most often they are shorter games and they use guides to minimized interaction with the game.

While the stats are nice, they are not a reason to buy or not buy a game. Though, I admit with all the games out there, I will skip more likely on those with broken achievements or achievements I don’t like. And no death achievements are pretty high on that list because of the sheer frustration they bring with them. That said, I have done a few of these in the past.

As for RE3 the reason is quite simple. I don’t like the idea to have games on my Steam account I surely won’t play (so far it is only one where I know I won’t do it). And RE3 comes with Resistance. If I would be able to buy RE3 without the MP game, I would have done so. And while I can hide it in the library, I just don’t like the idea. And yea, its the remake for RE4. Still have to do three Standard runs for the missing achievements and then buy Separate Ways.

Oh, I see. Yeah, no death achievements are particularly vexing on platformers like Hollow Knight; one slightly mistimed jump and you’re out 30 hours. Other games aren’t necessarily as bad. I did a no death run of D:OS 1 for example, and that was actually pretty straightforward.

That makes a ton of sense. I have no intention of playing Resistance either, but having it in my library is only mildly vexing for me because I have a lot of duplicate games from buying definitive editions of games and getting the original for free (Ori and the Blind forest, D:OS 1, Skyrim, etc). Obviously, I don’t intend to play worse versions of games I’ve already completed, so I just have a category for them in my steam account so that I don’t see them.
