I finally achieved my most coveted goal on Steam: 99% achievement completion. I'm fully aware that I can't get 100% and maintaing 99% indefinitely is not a realistic goal. So from now on I will do my best to relax my achievement hunting while also maintaining 98% at least. "And that's the end of my story. I was never good enough at playing games so I will never figure out what would happen if I reached 100% achievement completion because as far as the rest of the world is concerned, I'm just an imperfect player."

I never bought so many games during a sale before. Even though I completed all of them except one I still can't help but feel overwhelming sense of guilt over it. Does anyone feel the same thing when they purchase games? What are the games you bought during the sale and have you played any of them yet?

As usual I won't be reviewing each and every game. However if you have any questions about any game please don't hesitate to ask.

Fallout 4

Let me get this out of the way. For me the real Fallout games are 1 and 2. I was never a fan of the rebooted versions. Fallout 4 lacks a lot in the roleplaying aspect. Dialogue options are very shallow and apart from being able to get yourself out of trouble if you have high charisma skill there is nothing else. The game relies heavily on first person shooter aspect. As for DLCs, while I hated the storyline I really enjoyed the design of Nuka World whereas Far Harbor had some rather interesting story and atmosphere. Rest of them are not even worthy of being mentioned.

The only thing I enjoyed in Fallout 4 was building but the limitations of the non-modded game and being required to download a bunch of mods turned it into a big chore. I really hate using mods but I had to download a few for this purpose. I built a lot of things and had so much more planned like constructing a book store, gun store, clothing shop, a house for my character, a mansion for Dogmeat so on and on. Sadly I couldn't even get a mod that adds proper looking books to work and I totally gave up when I was building the clothing shop with brick materials as it's extremely difficult to work with brick materials even with mods. Despite having a mod that removes building limitations I still had a massive meltdown and ended up quitting the whole thing. I still built some things I'm happy about so I'll share them in a separate gallery.

Witcher 2 Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition

As far as gameplay goes Witcher 2 improves upon Witcher 1 considerably while falling completely flat in the story department. Having to take sides in the hectic political battle as the neutral Witcher Geralt feels quite annoying and totally breaks the immersion. However I'm also biased towards this game because there is lots of Roche and I'm madly in love with Roche's voice actor's voice + accent so even though I was hating on the story in every step of the way, my ears were having the time of their lives everytime Roche entered the picture, and he did enter the picture constantly.

Some of the decisions in Witcher 2 can make an impact on which perspective you see the story from. I quite enjoyed this aspect. Towards the end of the first chapter you are faced with the choice of either following Roche or Iorveth. Depending on your choice, the way you experience the 2nd chapter changes completely. You get different main and side quests in the 2nd chapter and even in the final chapter you will have different side quests for each side. Iorveth's side was extremely enjoyable to play as the quests were filled with riddles and puzzles whereas everything felt extremely straightforward, bland and boring on Roche's side (even though my ears had a blast!). Roche's side had a lot of political bollocks, that don't even add anything to the main story, you were forced to partake in by stripping yourself of that neutrality Geralt is so proud to have. Whereas Iorveth's side had quite important quests that give you a lot of context about the overall story in Witcher 2. There was also humour on Iorveth's side. Iorveth's side had me giggle a few times while I found myself suffocating with boredom on Roche's side but that's all good cause again, did I mention that my ears were having a blast everytime Roche spoke? I think I might have briefly mentioned that before.

It's pretty much impossible for me to 100% this game since the last achievement I'm missing requires the game to be completed on the insane difficulty level which means: Highest difficulty + permanent death. I could potentially try it with periodically backing up saves in case I die but even with that I don't think I can ever do it. This game will forever stay like this and I'm okay with it :)

Euro Truck Simulator 2

I have to admit that Euro Truck Simulator 2 is a massive mistake of mine. I got the game from a key dump on a social media website aimed at gamers about 3 years ago and my mistake was a result of my couriosity getting the best of me as I witnessed so many ETS2 related content from multiple people every single day. I simply wanted to know what the deal was. I got a few achievements while testing the game and I wasn't a completionist back then so it didn't bother me. However once I became a completionist, the magnitute of anger that mere 8% completion inflicted on me became very unbearable. Thus I decided to start buying one or two DLCs each sale to start my collection so everything would be ready once I focused on it. There are still new expansions being announced so I made peace with that fact that I'll be buying ETS2 DLCs for the rest of my life. It serves me right for that mistake :P

Anyway the game is actually a great simulator, I just don't like it cause I don't enjoy driving games anymore. I really appreciate that the game allows you to disable some of the simulator options allowing you to play it more like a casual driving game. It's possible to disable options like realistic fuel consumption to use less fuel; player rest so the driver will always be awake and won't be fined for not resting and speed limit so you can drive as fast as your truck allows you without being fined for speeding. It's even possible to increase or decrease chances of running into traffic events like accidents or road constructions as well as rainy weather. There are many transmission options and you can choose between automatic and manual for even extra realism. I found the AI greatly lacking though. I noticed a lot of vehicles suddenly changing directions towards my line while I was right next to them resulting in many accidents. I think AI doesn't check side mirrors at all. I also had vehicles hitting me from the back while they were steering their wheel towards me to change lanes. I could watch it all happen in my side mirror in utter shock. Can they really not see a massive truck right in front of them?

What I dislike the most about this game is the missed opportunities by not adding famous buildings in their respective cities. You go to London and there is no London Eye, you go to Paris there isn't a sign of the Eiffel Tower so on and on. I went to Italy in real life and Italy in ETS2 doesn't even remotely resemble what I saw. As an avid screenshot taker the only thing I truly enjoyed in the game was the scenery so I thought this one was such a wasted chance to make the game even more remarkable when it comes to the landscape. I was sure to like Italy the most but after seeing how it was represented I ended up liking France a lot more.

The type of cargo I enjoyed hauling the most was oversize/special delivery. Yes they were incredibly gigantic and some of them were so wide that I couldn't even fit them in narrow roads therefore I had to come to terms with delivering a slightly damaged cargo. However there is a special reason as to why I liked it; because you are escorted by two vehicles covering your front and rear. These escort vehicles drive very close to the opposite lane just to make the cars give you more room. They also drive ahead to warn upcoming vehicles of your coming when you are close to tight turns and intersections. This reminded me of a heartwarming experience I had with a pack of stray dogs who escorted me home in a similar way trying to shoo anyone or anything that came even remotely close to me. But this is also frustrating as it's impossible to rush these missions. I had around 160 hours into this game with barely anything else played inbetween so all I wanted to do was rush but I had to stay between the two escort vehicles otherwise the delivery failed instantly. Either way, those escort vehicles made me feel safe in an oddly indescribable way.

SOMA

I'm quite sure that every one of us at one point or another came across some game that can be extremely hard to review without spoiling anything. SOMA is one of them. I actually don't even know what to say because all I can think of saying involves a lot of spoilers and it's seriously best to get into this game without knowing anything about the story. I am also afraid of mentioning the topics very very broadly because I feel like even that will be enough to ruin the first experience. So instead I will write an extremely bland and uninteresting review that covers its gameplay only. Sorry! Please feel free to ask about the story if you are really curious and I'll be happy to provide some general answers in spoiler tags.

SOMA is played in first person view and the game generally plays like a walking simulator with some puzzles here and there. However occasionally you will run into some type of monster that needs to be avoided so the game also includes some mild stealth elements. The developers added a "safe mode" very recently which allows you to play the game purely as a walking simulator with puzzles. Monsters in the safe mode can still kill you if you get extremely close to them (I tested it) but normally they are really harmless. The game can get blurry at times especially when you are under water and/or injured. I normally get a lot of motion sickness from games these days but SOMA didn't affect me at all despite the blurry vision once in a while. Pfft, what a useless review this was right? The game is all about its fantastic story, atmosphere, and the philosophical themes it deals with none of which I can talk about for fear of spoilers. The rest is absolutely nothing. All I can really say is that it feels like playing a Black Mirror episode. I'll stop writing about SOMA here otherwise it'll keep getting worse. Just do yourself a favour and play it! Seriously!

Gorogoa

Gorogoa is an exceptionally made puzzle game in which you need to swap tiles in order to progress. There are 4 tile places in the layout and you need to zoom in/out of tiles, discover new tiles, bring the tiles together/side by side/directly on top of one another etc to create a whole scene to solve beautifully designed puzzles with a great deal of detail and depth attached to them. The game is quite simple and can be finished in 1-2 hours. However I struggled a bit with finishing the game under 30 minutes achievement and had to do about 3 playthroughs to fully memorise the puzzle solutions. I panic a lot when there are time constraints and tend to forget things I know very well. So Gorogoa was a hassle to 100% for me.

Fahrenheit: Indigo Prophecy Remastered

Fahrenheit is a story driven adventure game with TONS of QTEs. It boasts epic soundtrack as well as really high quality voice acting. The story is told from the perspective of three playable characters: A murderer and two detectives hot on his trail. We get to play each of them throughout the story. QTEs are generally long with some short breaks between them and there is room for mistakes depending on the difficulty of your choice. Easy difficulty will give you more time to correct your mistakes while also providing you with more chances to miss before total failure whereas Hard is much much more punishing.

Fahrenheit was a game I once removed from my library after watching a video of its longest QTE. It takes about 5 minutes with very few short breaks which are barely enough to breathe once. I didn't even think twice, no hesitation. Bam! Just remove from library. Very recently I had a chance to watch Dogmas play this game and I realised that it's actually quite awesome so I got the game back into my account. I asked her to send me her full save file so I could access that longest QTE which made me delete the game in the first place. I wanted to see if I could pass that chapter on my alt account. I did! So naturally I gave it my full attention on my main account and subsequently completed it. I seriously had a blast. I'm so glad to have got the chance to see this game being played otherwise I would have missed out on it which would be a great loss on my part.

FRAMED Collection

18/18 achievements earned

It's extremely rare for me to buy games immediately after their release. I'm a very slow acquirer of games and I am known to take months even years before I get something I want. FRAMED breaks this chain as I picked it up on the first day of its release. Gameplay in FRAMED is actually similar to Gorogoa as it's a puzzle/stealth game which also requires tiles swapping in order to progress. It doesn't have the depth of Gorogoa but I personally enjoyed the overall experience of FRAMED a lot more. Noir theme plus jazz soundtrack plus stealth. I really can't ask for more! The aim of the game is to safely reach the very last tile. In order to do that you need to swap the tiles and put them in a specific order to make the character move smoothly between tiles without getting detected. The game keeps it fresh by introducing new challenges and obstacles, for example during the course of one chapter you will be required to re-use previously used tiles while there is already motion going on in another tile. Unfortunately I found it way too short though. I really hope the developers will continue making games like this.

Please Knock on My Door

Please Knock on My Door is a game that deals with depression head on. The main character represents the developer of the game who went through serious depression himself. The game has 3 endings depending on your choices. The gameplay is quite simple and basic. You take care of the basic needs of your character like eating food; you can make him go to work or not; help him relax by taking a shower, looking out the window, chatting or playing games on the computer, watching TV, taking naps etc. If you go to work you will also have a decision to make every time. All of these actions need to be timed correctly in order for you to go to bed on time so you will be able to wake up when the alarm rings to go to work without being late. If you are late to work, go to work hungry or without taking a shower your coworkers and boss will react to it.

The game uses a point based score system to calculate your performance. Each action will either add or subtract points from your overall score. For example taking a long shower will add points whereas getting lost in thoughts instead of focusing on your meal will substract points. This score can determine what types of actions you can take. For example if you don't have a score of 40, you can't chat online on the computer. The game has 3 play modes. In one mode the score is hidden and points don't affect what type of actions you can take. So even if you have only 10 score, you can still chat online. Another mode displays the score but limits your actions based on the amount of points you have accumulated.

Please Knock on My Door is a game that I highly recommend supporting. If you at any point in life experienced depression yourself or have known someone to go through it, it is impossible not to find something relatable. It can even get too relatable at times. If you make decisions a certain way, the usual narration in the game will be interrupted by a message directly from the developer to the player which I included in the screenshot gallery for this game. He is also very helpful on the forums. How can one not want to support this person? So just buy the game already!

CHUCHEL

4 hours played
7/7 achievements earned

There are two very personal reasons as to why I seriously disliked Chuchel. First of all the main character is nothing but a bully. I hate bullies, I really really do. I never wanted to help him get the cherry because he is a piece of filth that is not worthy of anything good. Second reason is because it reminds me of the horrific memories back when I had very long hair. In Czech the word Chuchel means 'ball of hair and dust' and I had so much torment and trauma with my previously long hair that even a brief look at Chuchel's design makes me want to vomit. Anyway I'm glad those days are over because for the past 5 years I've been supporting the very short but extremely stylish pixie look of Michelle Williams.

Back to reviewing the game, Chuchel prefers to simplify pretty much everything. There isn't the usual complexity and depth of previous Amanita Design games. Every puzzle solution is right there on the screen you are looking at without having to go anywhere else. Forget about interacting with npcs, trying to figure out what they want, collecting tons of objects and miraculously creating something crazy by combining them. Chuchel doesn't feature any of these things. Each screen you are looking at represents that chapter, your obstacles are clearly presented and it's rather simple to immediately figure out how to solve it. There are only about 2-3 chapters where the puzzles have a bit more complexity but the rest of them don't pose any challenge whatsoever. While everything from graphics to puzzle solutions are simplified, none of these are reasons as to why Chuchel is my least liked Amanita Design game. I really don't mind the simplicity, I even welcome it sometimes. It's only the two reasons I specified in the first paragraph. Without them, I would have enjoyed it at least more than Samorost 1-2.

I finished a few books since my last update but after starting Euro Truck Simulator 2 I couldn't keep up with the backlog of books. However now that I'm done with ETS 2 my book reading should start to liven up again. During this slow period I still managed to finish reading Dreamcatcher, The Terror, World Without End and The Call of the Wild.

As much as I loved The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett I have nothing but negative feelings towards his 2nd book in the Kingsbridge series, World Without End. There wasn't a single likable character for me so that hefty 1200 something pages felt like pure torture. Whereas The Terror was so enjoyable that I found myself reading 200+ pages each day. This is why I had to slow down so I wouldn't end up finishing that 1000+pages-long-beast in only one week. I wanted to make that experience last longer than that. It also perfectly describes the supernatural phenomenon that the TV show didn't really do a good job of explaining. The Call of the Wild managed to make me cry at least 10 times with its mere 120 pages, that book is definitely not an easy read for those like me who are way too sensitive towards animals.

I read a lot of historical fiction now therefore I'll focus on finishing the Witcher series. Up next will be more Ken Follett; his first best seller The Eye of The Needle and then his Century Trilogy while I wait for a paperback edition of the newly released 3rd book in the Kingsbridge series. There is also The Lost World by Sir A. Conan Doyle waiting on my shelf as well as soon-to-be-purchased Warcraft: Before the Storm that will fill the blanks between the ending of Legion expansion and the start of the Battle for Azeroth Expansion in World of Warcraft (Inserting mandatory FOR THE HORDE here).

Have fun!

EvilBlackSheep

99%!! Congratulations that’s huge.

I’m glad you got yourself some games during the sales, you deserve it, please don’t feel guilty (I do feel the same tbh but my backlog is not as clean as yours). I ended up getting Under Leaves and Lethis - Daring Discoverers. Didn’t play them yet as the heat is unmotivating me to play anything really (it’s quite hot to stay at the gaming pc or even at the laptop). I passed on Gorogoa for this sale and promised myself i can get it in the next sales if I’ve made some progress with the backlog.

On the plus side with that heat, since I force myself to get off the computer I’ve been reading more so that’s something, right?

Please Knock on my door looks really intriguing, thanks for the discovery, I’ll look into it.

Forsaken

Thank you :)

I can’t vouch for Lethis as I don’t know that game but Under Leaves is a great pick. I really hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

I hate summer so much. If I was still in my winter house my room would feel as if it’s 60 celcius degrees whereas it feels like around 30 or so in my summer house on the hottest day of the year but my computer here is far inferior to my main setup. I’m so glad you ended up having the time to read though, that’s always great. I should start that too but you know how animals have that adjustment period everytime you change their location? I’m in that spot right now. It’s been 2 weeks since we came to the summer house but I still can’t shake off the change.

Please Knock on My Door and its developer truly deserve every single support.

EvilBlackSheep

Lethis is gonna be a hit or miss as I’ve been curious about it for a long time, but it has mixed reviews so i never really went for it. As it was extremely cheap on wingamestore’s sale AND recently had an update fixing what most of the negative reviews complain about, I decided i’d give it a shot. We’ll see. And Under Leaves was 50% off and I remembered your recommendation about it so I went for it.

Right here with you for hating summer. It’s been past 30 for a few days now and I haven’t had a good night of sleep in more than a week, I’m extra cranky. Good thing at least you have a summer house because i can’t imagine if you were stuck all summer in a 60° environment (let alone the PCs are already not doing well in 30+ I can imagine at 60° the powerblock would need their own cooling system or die instantly (I’ve lost several powerblocks in summer when passing 40-45))

Forsaken

Well I truly hope Lethis will be a hit rather than a miss.

In the winter house I had 3 external fans working around the clock to cool my case in addition to the internal fans and the ceiling fan in my room. They didn’t even help. Our house is located in a way that it gets tons of sunlight. Even when it’s around 40-50 outside, which is already hot enough to literally kill people, my room feels like 15-20 degrees more than what it is outside. I hate it so much. Summer house also gets hot sometimes but it’s generally breezy and the ceiling fan in my room is usually enough to make it a habitable place.

Well let’s hope noone will lose any of their components to this summer :(

Lex

Why would you play ETS2, a game you don’t like, for 188 hours?! That’s insane!!!

Forsaken

Because,

  • I was selfish to take that game instead of letting others who would appreciate it a lot more. For me playing the game would be a courtesy to the person who shared the key as well as the people who couldn’t get it as a result of my selfishness.
  • Its 8% completion rate annoyed me.

Besides, listening to Radiohead and The Witcher 3 soundtrack is not a bad way to spend 188 hours :) Also my screenshot loving persona had a blast while hauling.

Lex

I sincerely hope you had more fun than you are say you did because I can’t imagine forcing myself to play that many hours for those two reasons. Regarding the first reason, I feel that way too when I receive a gift. I want to give it more of a shot than I would had I bought it myself. But I only ever let that stray into the 1-2 hour territory.

Also congrats on 99%! When I first came here I took a look at my completion rate and decided that since I’d already opened too many games I didn’t care about that there was no hope for me.

Forsaken

There are aspects I enjoyed for sure and I did my best to explain them in my thoughts section. Would I be better off if I had never activated this game? Yes. Do I despise it? Absolutely not. Unfortunately I have made far worse Steam related mistakes than that I’m afraid.

Thank you so much. Also there is always hope if it’s something you want to do. But it’s actually much better to never care about achievements in the first place in my opinion. I have some internal and personal reasons as to why I care so much.

Vito

As previously stated, truly impressive! Wanted to say it again, so that it is set in stone – or at least HTML

Forsaken

Thank you so much :) Sorry about the confusion again :P

Traqie

What stops you from getting 100%? :o
And Congrats for 99% O_O I can only dream of getting that completion rate D:

Forsaken

Because I can’t 100% every game :) Some achievements are simply way too hard for me to even imagine earning. That’s why it was actually a more realistic dream to reach 99% than the impossible 100%.

Thank you :D You do have insanely great progress in some games though and that’s a fantastic feat in itself. I wouldn’t even be able to reach 30% or something in XCOM 2 :p

Quinze

Very recently I had a chance to watch Dogmas play this game and I realised that it’s actually quite awesome so I got the game back into my account.

Forsaken

That’s how my story ends. I will never figure out what it feels like to enjoy another sitcom ever again because as far as the world is concerned I’m just a Will&Grace fangirl.

Forsaken

Let’s call it Karen&Jack fangirling shall we?

MouseWithBeer

Big congrats on the 99% completion rate and the 100% in ETS2! :)

Forsaken

Thank you :)

IcyGlare

I never bought so many games during a sale before. Even though I completed all of them except one I still can’t help but feel overwhelming sense of guilt over it. Does anyone feel the same thing when they purchase games? What are the games you bought during the sale and have you played any of them yet?

My problem is getting to the “purchasing games” part. I don’t really buy a lot of games so I usually finish everything I’ve bought shortly after buying them. Well, except for my recent purchases, which I haven’t touched yet. They’re short/casual enough that I probably won’t have to worry about not being in the mood to play them.

Forsaken

I make sure to only purchase games if I will be able to play them immediately. I kinda went off the rails this time cause I wanted to reward myself after having some really positive experiences at work. Normally I buy 1 or 2 games maximum and most of the time I buy nothing. This really was a crazy shopping spree for me and it is not something I’m used to.

I’m glad I finished most of them already, I should start the last one soonish cause unplayed games really bother the hell out of me, and also because I really wanna play it even though I am not really in the mood to play games at the moment. My unplayed games used to be 3 and now it’s 5. It makes me wanna scream :/ At least a lot of games were removed from my hidden wishlist. It’s even tinier now.

I saw your purchases during the sale. Adam Wolfe especially was a pleasant surprise. I hope you enjoy playing them.

IcyGlare

Actually, I was planning to do that in the last sale because I wanted to build a backlog. Bought only 2 cheap games, but it wasn’t a miserable failure since I ended up having a small backlog. :p

I bought Adam Wolfe after I saw some reviews here. I’m kinda tired of Artifex Mundi HOGs and that game seemed to be different enough.

Forsaken

Oh Adam Wolfe is a really high quality HOG for sure. Though the number of puzzles outweigh the number of hidden object scenes which is my biggest criticism about that game. Everything else is pretty great considering what we are used to seeing in that genre.

Speaking of Artifex Mundi HoGs, I actually could mention it on my original post but I decided not to as I didn’t wanna customise all those tabs for a few lines. Persian Nights stole insane amount of materials from World of Warcraft. A music from 2nd chapter I believe (could be 3rd chapter too) is taken from WoW and some lines especially Ragnaros’ famous “you insolent whelps” quote are also directly used without a single change. Even the sand elementals are the same. I was super angry to be honest. Every game I played from AM so far had some pretty original (to my knowledge) artwork etc but this one really drove me insane.

IcyGlare

Doesn’t really surprise me. Abyss: The Wraiths of Eden looked like “BioShock: HOG edition.” XD

Forsaken

Oh I’ve never played Bioshock so I had no idea. But I can definitely believe that especially after what I saw in Persian Nights. They didn’t even try to hide it. I get that you can draw inspiration which is totally normal and natural but it felt like straight up thievery. I really lost a lot of respect towards AM for publishing that.

Trent

Hi, Lenor. So this seems like the appropriate post to tell you that I reached a milestone of my own– 96% completion. I am nowhere in the league of completionism that you are– neither in drive nor in ability– but I have worked hard to get to this point, which will probably be the highest it ever gets. I’ve gone back and addressed some “completionist downers” over the past year or so, but still have several remaining. Due to Steam’s new feature, you can easily see my overall progress if you’re so inclined. There are still a few games that I would revisit for (more) achievements, but the others I almost certainly will not.

Anyway, I thought you of all people could appreciate this. I hope all is well with you; I always think of you fondly.

Forsaken

This is absolutely magnificent. You have my sincerest congratulations. You deserve that after all the hard work you put into it. Sadly there aren’t any games in those “completion rate downers” or “revisit” categories that I could help with (maybe with Torchlight 1 but my copy is on Epic so I don’t know how it’d work).

I’d love and love to be able to give you more motivation about this if it is within my ability. I added you on Steam again. You are fully within your right to not add me back, that’s totally okay. But if you’re up for it I’m up for some chats too. You are definitely in my thoughts as well.

Thank you for this post. It’s such a great surprise to see a personalised message directed towards me in my inbox when I routinely refresh a page just to check if there are new backlog updates from strangers. It hardly happens so it does put a small smile on my face when it does. Thank you again and whether you add me back or not, take good care of yourself and your family.
