December’s Stats
aka. Another year of backlog fight
Happy New Year fellow assassins!! I hope 2020 started well for all of you, and that this new decade will bring great things in your lives and in gaming. As usual around the holiday season, slow month in the backlog fight (Not at all because I spent so many more hours in Demoncrawl even though I had finished the game) and big increase in the backlog growth so nothing too good to report, but at least I had fun and played a few great games, so it was nice. I’ll be back in a few day with my 2019 stats post, but until then, take care. How was your holiday season (if you celebrate) and did you take any resolutions for 2020?

ABC Challenge 2.0 Progress (0/27)
Finished this month: 0Finished 2019 playing the sequel of a game I loved at the beginning of this same year, and it was equally great. Cat Quest II offers some improvements on the already really great Cat Quest, with the possibility of playing it co-op with a friend in the process. The stories are not dependent of each other so you can play this without having played the first one, but why would you. Full of cats & dogs puns, strongly recommended.
I wasn't expecting to like this game as much as I did, but since it was in the Game Pass, I thought why not giving it a try. I had a blast and the game is way more fun than it should be, full of silliness and a nice way to empty your mind. If you're up for the challenge, you can try to beat each stage's top score requirement, or just go through it having fun like I did. Recommended, especially if you have the Game pass.
The latest iteration in the Steamworld series, which as usual explores a new genre. This time, the dev team brought us a deckbuilder with a system pretty similar to Slay the Spire, but in the Steamworld universe, with a layer of fantasy RPG. As expected, I loved it and would strongly recommend it if you like the genre. A great way to finish my year in gaming.
Any good reason for My Friend Pedro to win the “most innovative gameplay” award on steam? It feels like Baba got robbed in that category
:blobcatsweat:
I wouldn’t know how to explain that, as I also voted for Baba is you and didn’t think My Friend Pedro has such a smart design, even if yes it’s not the most common gameplay. It’s a sidescroller action/shooter/plateformer where your score multiplier increases with the combo of kills. I found it entertaining and a good way to empty your stress meter but not that innovative? I’m not sure. I feel like what you see in the game trailers on youtube is exactly what you get, and Baba is you is way smarter in its design. Then again I didn’t agree with many of the steam award results.
I’m always amazed by how many gifts you receive. You must be universally loved! :D
Well it was Xmas after all and a lot of my friends are into gift giving (which is never good for my backlog, or theirs…)
How was Kind Words? Were you a nice sheep? :eyes:
Such good new game added to the backlog of doom and that’s even without Disco Elysium (nom nom).
Please let’s ignore that the backlog already grew on the first day of 2020
Kind words is surprisingly nice and soothing. It’s not really a game per se, as you just send messages to other strangers who play the game. I wrote a smoll review in my november report but basically, it was really enjoyable to say nice things to people you don’t even know who’re going through a tough time. I was expecting it to be full of trolls but it’s actually a nice caring community.
It’s troll-free because it’s moderated, but I’d be interested to find out how often they actually need to step in and some stats about which specific reason made them intervene. I wonder if their #1 problem is trolls or people that share personally identifiable informations >_>
I did encounter once somebody who was sharing their steam username and asking to be contacted there directly to be friend. I did flag the message as it was specified just before in the introduction to never give that kind of un-anonymizing data. I’d still assume that overall there is more people trolling than people trying to share their identity? But unsure about it.
