Hello!

It’s been a bad month and a half for my backlog. Or at least on Steam. With a month free of Origin Access I managed to squeeze in a lot of games I’ve been wanting to play for ages.

So sorry for the long post!

Finished games in Origin.

Mirror's Edge

6 hours, no achievements

Finally got to actually finish this game, the story lacked under the pace of the game I'm afraid. I always had trouble with police encounters myself, but still enjoyed the game.

Mirror's Edge Catalyst

18 hours, no achievements

Story was lack luster and also rather rushed. Some of the side mission like deliveries were really unforgiving and required you to get almost all upgrades, despite being available very early in the game.
None the less I enjoyed the game

Inside

3 hours, 4 of 14 achievements

I enjoyed this game far more than I did Limbo, probably because I sucked at Limbo haha.

Orwell

2 hours, no achievements

Unlike with the first game I didn't feel inclined to playthrough the game another time, despite there being total of 3 different endings (I think) this one felt short and not as well thought out storywise.

Other:

Prison Architect

12 hours, no achievements

Tacoma

0 hours, no achievements

Steam left overs:
I barely maybe progress in November and most of December.. (aside from multiplayer games and getting achievements for those but those are never ending battles aren’t they? )

Afraid backlog is gonna get bigger as I spotted some good deals on Steam on games I want… more motivation to finish some games! Right?! Right?!?!

Either way hope you all have some happy holidays and may the New Year bring you more backlog assassination time!

How would you compare the two Mirror’s Edge games? I heard Catalyst went with some annoying changes like making you unlock moves to progress, something that apparently wasn’t a thing in the original. Or not to such a degree.

I’ve decided to only buy DLC for games I already own during this Steam sale to avoid major case of “going bankrupt”. Everything else will have to come through unliekly gifts external means.

You also have yourself a great time and enjoy the holidays. ◕‿◕

The upgrade system/skill tree in Catalyst sure was annoying. It took awhile to unlock just being able to climb fast which was pretty important for certain deliveries, though all the main quest never gave me a problem with time restrictions and were very easily doable. The original was pure just running and trying to get to parts of the map quickly with only a few ways to get there. Catalyst gave you a little more freedom it how you got somewhere but the upgrade sure were annoying :(

Sticking to DLC is a pretty good plan actually, though most of my games either have all DLC or they aren’t really that important (soundtracks etc ). The games I’m eyeing are all below 5 bucks so I can let myself go juuuuust a little bit.

Interesting. So one doesn’t devalue the other? I wanted to get around to the original, but never found the time. Maybe I should if it’s not that long.

I’m wary they’ll pop up on Humble Choice. ;D

In terms of pure enjoyment, Mirror’s Edge was awesome. Very simple and straightforward but if you get into it and enjoy a challenge then it’s a joy to play. I loved racing in this game, it was so fun and such a thrilling experience.

Catalyst on the other hand took a while to get into it and the skill tree is just ruining the game experience. They tried to apply their famous formula of putting grind to make it longer but what’s awesome in Mirror’s Edge is actually understanding and using all the “skills” to move faster. Not grinding to earn them…

To me, the first game is a must play, or try at least. Some may hate it or feel sick with it. But if you enjoy it, it will be an awesome experience. And you should consider Catalyst only if you want more Mirror’s Edge and are ready to be disappointed.

That’s comforting. I remember some drama around how first person parkouring was inducing motion sickness or something.

It’s just such a weird call to make moves unlockable in a game entirely about moving around. Then again, EA.

And congrats for beating Catalyst! I couldn’t get into it, the grind killed it for me sadly and I dropped it. Maybe one day? But I’d rather play Mirror’s Edge again than go through Catalyst haha xD
