190 PERFECT GAMES REACHED!

In a world filled with glitched achievements (coughs Mafia III coughs), the one and only Illidan fangirl was struggling to find her place. Until she found the Nexus!!! To my credit I discovered Nexus 2 years ago so let’s call it “my return”. I am talking about Heroes of the Storm of course.

It’s been ages since my last update on BLAEO and my Steam progress has almost come to a complete halt. I don’t know how I manage to squeeze in 10 more perfect games (4 of them HoGs so that’s how maybe). One of the main reasons for the halt was returning to Heroes of the Storm. My lovely co-op partner Dani switching regions to play with me on EU was the icing on a fantastically tasty white chocolate cake. The reason I quit playing the game in the first place about a year ago was boredom. It’s extremely boring to play a MOBA alone.

Here is a little screenshot of Dani (Malthael) and I (Abathur) playing the taunting game. Once you reach certain hero levels you unlock master taunts. When your hero does taunt animation, you get a little symbol on top of your hero. This symbol becomes fancier when you reach higher levels with that hero. Dani’s taunt symbol is a bit small because she just unlocked it a couple of days ago by leveling Malthael to 15 (the very base symbol is unlocked at 15) whereas my Abathur is currently level 40 (must reach 50 before moving to Diablo 2)!!!

Taunt

If anyone here for some reason wants to read more about my experience after returning to Heroes of the Storm, I’ll transfer you over to my blog. I swear this is not shameless advertisement. I don’t do stuff like that. This is only something extra if anyone wants to read me talking about Heroes of the Storm. I’d like to include it in this post but it’d be too long and everytime I add a 4th tab to my template, everything breaks. If anyone wants to talk to me about this game, feel free to reply to me on this post. I love Blizzard universe (except Overwatch) and being attached to all of these heroes makes me enjoy the game a lot more than someone who plays it just for the sake of it without having any knowledge about these wonderful characters. Our every game with Dani is like a little lesson in lore as I spend lots of time telling her stories or background information about the heroes we are playing.

After our stimpack in Heroes of the Storm expires (an item that gives double experience and double gold after a match), we will move on to Diablo 2 and we are quite hyped about it. I played all Diablo games but for some reason Diablo 2 has a huge gap in my memory. I remember the 1st game very well and the 3rd as I have like 1000 hours played but 2nd game is a complete blank. I can’t wait to create my Necromancer and command a huge army of the dead only to have them get one shot by badass bosses like Duriel and Baal :P

Below in the tabs you can find the tiny progress I achieved in the 2 months of my absence in activity feed on BLAEO. I didn’t talk about every game so if you want information about games I didn’t talk about or would like me to expand upon about the games I already mentioned, feel free to ask. I’ll be happy to answer :)

Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture: The journey starts in Yaughton, a fictinal village located in England. All the residents have vanished and it’s up to us to follow their stories, find out about their lives and learn about the very interesting phenomenon that caused everything. A stunning looking game but I hope we all know that having beautiful graphics isn’t the only thing that makes a game. Storytelling is especially important in a walking simulator and Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture doesn’t really have any problems in this regard either. All of this is also accompanied by a fantastic soundtrack and very impressive voice acting. My first natural playthrough took around 6-7 hours so the game has pretty good length for a walking simulator.

However the game suffers a lot from poorly designed gameplay mechanics. Game only auto saves during certain story sequences and these are limited in numbers. You can easily lose hours of progress if you explore every nook and cranny and not find the next story sequence to save. Luckily the developers added a beta update which allows you to manually save by clicking on maps scattered around the game. This a life saver, if you are thinking of playing the game make sure to update your game to beta. I should also warn you that the walking speed is extremely slow. It’s like “we want you to be slow so you can enjoy this beautiful looking game we made”. I don’t need to be forced to walk slowly to enjoy my surroundings. There is a sprint button but it takes 6-7 seconds to pick up the pace and even at fullest sprint speed, it’s close to the original walking speed.

The game requires a minimum of 2 playthroughs that is if you are really thorough in one of them for “completionist” achievement which requires you to unlock every single story element including TVs, phones, radios, past events. Apart from these there are also collectibles in the forms of graffiti, books, maps, train numbers, microwaves. They all have their own achievements. There isn’t a checklist for collectibles so if you miss one, you won’t know what it is. It took me 3 playthroughs to complete the game. Honestly, this is an annoying game to get 100% on.

Leaving Lyndow: A very casual and short walking simulator (took me around 30 minutes). After an elimination process, one person is picked to be on an expedition to explore the world. You play the character that is picked and the objective of the game is to say goodbye to everyone you know before you set sail to your dreams. The surroundings are extremely linear, achievements are quite easy to get, there are only about 5 very small and limited locations to explore and a handful of characters to talk to. The game was a pleasant surprise despite every criticism I mentioned and when I tweeted to the developers to thank them for the game and that I’m looking forward to their upcoming Eastshade game which will take place in the same world as Lyndow, they said “You are the best”. I just love indie developers <3

The Walking Dead: A New Frontier: (Gift from Team Backlog <3) What a collosal failure in my opinion. Telltale started having this habit of putting a dialogue option but when chosen, saying something that is not even close to the option you picked. There are so many instances of it in this game. It’s also a lot shorter compared Season 1 and 2. Not as short as Michonne but pretty short. It has a bunch of characters one can’t feel anything for so none of the choices and their consequences had any impact on me. The game ends on a cliffhanger by the way but the ending credits mention that the story will continue so I guess we’ll get another game... I feel like this franchise should be put to rest. Nothing can beat Lee’s story.

Under Leaves: (Gift from Team Backlog <3) This is a surprisingly challenging hidden object game. I really enjoyed it. There is not a HOG in the sense of this find the key, backtrack, open this chest, find a crowbar, backtrack, open the crate, find a knife, backtrack, cut the rope etc. Each scene you are welcomed by a cute animal which asks you to find certain objects. Your job is to find them but it really isn’t as easy as it sounds. Some objects blend extremely well with the background. Once you complete the request of an animal, you are taken to another area to immediately be tasked to find another type of object. It’s hidden object scene after hidden object scene with no filler content inbetween.Highly recommended if you like this type of genre.

Glass Masquerade: I’d like to thank my friend who has gifted this to me despite wanting it for themselves (I was informed of this after the game was redeemed, tsk tsk! I never would have accepted otherwise). It’s a gorgeous jigsaw puzzle game. You have clock shaped jigsaw bases and the art depends on the culture of the country you have selected in the game menu. Finishing a clock from one country unlocks more countries. There are set difficulty options for each country, the harder the difficulty the more jigsaw pieces you will have to assemble. I believe the highest difficulty had 66 pieces.

Distraint: Distraint is a very short and casual adventure game. Your objective is to evict people and then celebrate people's misery with your greedy bosses. Everytime you want to evict someone they will ask you to do a task for them before they leave. These are very simple puzzles, locations are limited so you won't get lost or anything. Achievements are simple to get but missable and the game itself is very enjoyable. I didn't like the last chapter though because it was extremely disorienting for me as I am terrible with directions. The game was fantastic up until that point, when I reached last chapter I had to check a guide to progress cause I was starting to get seriously dizzy.

Congrats on having 190 purrrrrfect games! That’s pretty awesome! :))
For HOG reasons I have reached (omg, just checked) the 100th! :]

Leeeeeeee - is never forgotten! ;)
By now I’m really mixed about this next twd game. I still wanna play it, but somehow… yeah, mixed feelings ;)

Hey, you finished HOGs! confetti throwing
You wanna post them on the monthly theme, to push the numbers up? ;)

Hope you will have some more fun with Heroes of the Storm! And after that with Diablo 2 :)

Happy gaming :)

Forsaken

I already posted the HoGs I completed for the theme this month. The numbers are already up regardless of whether we post there or not. Feed is already full of HoG updates, this alone says enough.

Thank you.

ninglor03

Ah right. I totally forgot the Intro page. Thanks for the reminder ;)
I’ll add you to my list right away.
And yes, you are absolutely right! The HOG numbers are pretty nice this month :]

Lucky Thirteen

Big congrats on your awesome completion rate! O.o

Oh I forgot to reply to your Steam comment. I was gonna thank there as well :P

Thank you :D

Sadly, I think the writing was one the wall for The Walking Dead ever since 400 Days came out. Not to mention Telltale’s story structure aka write it along the way based on community decision feedback, simply is not conducive to quality storytelling if you stop and think about it. Borderlands game worked for me because it was zany as hell, but drama and serious stuff? Yeah.

Forsaken

Borderlands was truly a gem but they seriously botched the later The Walking Dead games. While I don’t expect quality to increase, I do hope that the next game will be more interesting based on how A New Frontier ended. And we desperately need a protagonist change. Javier was uhm… a failure I want to forget. The rest of the characters around him were even worse. If I had the chance I’d do a full genocide playthrough :P

Trent

Yay, a Lenor update! :D
Great progress, despite limited Steam playtime.
I was afraid that TWD3 would be a disappointment. I still have S2 in my backlog, but it does feel like it’s slowly going downhill. Not sure if it’s different writers, the same writers but more complacent, or just rushing through for more cash…or maybe it’s just not possible to experience that kind of game for the first time.
It sounds like you enjoyed all of the other games too, more or less, so glad to hear that.
Good luck with D2, and please do let me know how it goes. It’s probably the non-MMO I’ve spent more time in than any other.

Forsaken

I wouldn’t say slowly. I think it’s actually pretty rapid which is heartbreaking. For me if a story based game wants to be successful, it somehow has to form a connection with the player. It needs to make me feel something for the characters involved within the story. Except Clementine, I felt nothing for any of these characters. Every single one of them was so annoying and such idiots that I just wanted them to die. So the emotional impact the game “may” have was totally lost on me.

I will update you on Diablo 2.

EvilBlackSheep

Congrats on the milestone of completed games!!

I totally share your opinion about TWD3. No matter how much I loved season one and even two, it was kinda so-so. I’m glad to not be the only one who didn’t get attached to the new characters If i had to say one i’d say mariana but well… you know what I mean about that. It was actually even counter productive because as Javi we should be more attached to our family than a suspicious strange teen who actually we meet threatening our life. Yet most of the time I ended up kinda siding with Clem even if I didn’t think i should have, because as the player i was attached to her from previous seasons. I’m scared where they’re going with a 4th season as the ending suggest…

Forsaken

Thank you :)

If I was forced to pick a favourite character apart from Clem I’d pick Jesus. I completely agree with what you said. I trusted Clem a lot more than Javi’s family especially after seeing the psychological abuse of Kate at the hands of David. Even though I was really sick of Kate’s endless advances despite my endless rejections, I couldn’t even blame her for falling for Javi. Noone in his family really instilled any confidence in me.

I will also never forgive Kenny’s cheap death. After surviving everything he dies cheaply to a stupid accident during he teaches Clem how to drive on an empty road? Really? The game had already ended for me at that point. He deserved something honourable.

As for ending at least I really hope that protagonist will be Clem again as we try to find AJ. Anything else would be unacceptable.

EvilBlackSheep

I didn’t count Jesus but I agree on it. Especially at the very end when he hits on Javi \o/. Other than that, I hated not only David, but also Gabe, and to an extend Kate.

I didn’t even see that scene in my game because the game bugged out on my save import and considered clem alone was my cannon. I had to go on youtube to see that and it was such a cheap bad plotline.

We agree about an eventual next game. Nothing else than that would be acceptable.

Forsaken

I wanted to kill Gabe so much. If I was half as bad as him when I was a teenager, oh wow I need to apologise to my parents millions of times.

EvilBlackSheep

I was actually so disappointed that Clem saved his ass >__>

Congrats on another milestone! You manage to keep improving your exceptional completion stats. :) I see you also played DISTRAINT, what were your thoughts on that game? I’ve had it waiting in my backlog for a while now.

Also, I don’t know how many more similar reviews I’m able to read from the new season of the Walking Dead before I start to reconsider playing it myself. It’s a shame the series has apparently taken a turn for the worse because TWD S1 was such an outstanding experience.

Thank you ^^

Actually I don’t know why I didn’t add a mini Distraint review :P I might copy paste this reply to the main post before it is too late as I’ll be in 2nd page on feed soon enough :D

If you have The Walking Dead A New Frontier, just play it now before reading any more reviews. Rip it off like a band-aid and get it over with quickly :D

uguleley

Thanks for the summary!

I don’t have A New Frontier yet, I’ll probably wait until I’ve forgotten my high expectations for the new season. Perhaps I’ll find it more enjoyable that way, fingers crossed. :)
