October’s Stats
aka. Sheep opened Pandora’s box and more backlog came out of it
Hello again fellow assassins, I hope you had a good and safe October and Halloween. I might have made a fatal mistake a few weeks ago in getting a second hand Switch, with a few games, including Animal Crossing New Horizons. And I might or might not have gone back to being addicted to it. I have had the game for less than 2 weeks and already sank 65h into it. I guess I’m justifying this being a good thing by the fact that the situation being what it is, we’re in lockdown again. Sort of. At least apart from that, I did pretty ok with the backlog fight this month… or so I try to tell myself. I hope you all stay safe wherever you are, and get to have gaming time in November.

Kicked off the month with a pretty straight forward HoG. Nothing groundbreaking but an enjoyable one. The story was a bit forgettable though, but it filled its function.
I went into this game totally unspoiled (how I managed that after all the hype around this game for a long time now is the most puzzling part of it all). It was really good, especially for a free game. I'm not gonna go into details about it but if you haven't played it yet, DO.
This game was okay but quite underwhelming. It wasn't really bad (or at least I was expecting way worse after Kaleith's reaction to playing it) but it could have been way better. Except for THE FUCKING HEAD BOBBING. What even game. Why do walking simulator devs think it's necessary to add that to their game, or not offer the option to deactivate it, I will never know. Thankfully the game is not too long because more would have been a nightmare. Don't recommend if you're prone to motion sickness.
A very cute free little horror Point'n'Click. Thanks to Kaleith and Skatrzoo for the recommendation, it was short but both gruesome and adorable. Just try it, it's short and it's free.
I had finally gotten this one to complete my Telltale collection on steam in a recent bundle so Spooktober was the perfect time to play it. Contrary to the previous Telltale games some achievements can be missed or need two playthroughs to unlock (Or to copy save folders at strategic times, but I hadn't planned for that so it will have to wait). I think it brings an interesting and appropriate conclusion to the adventures of Clementine. It suffers from the same defaults as its predecessors, so only go in if you liked the previous games and are not too bothered by their flaws. I personally enjoyed it and felt like it was concluding an era.
Way more fun than I first thought it was gonna be. It's a metroidvania where you play a mass of flesh with tentacles trying to escape from some military facility where they were experimenting on you. It has the Devolver touch, which ends up being a silly premise but with solid gameplay. I might have ignored it if it hadn't been on the game pass, but I'm glad it is. Recommended.
The sequel to my beloved Monster Prom is finally here, and it's glorious. If you liked the first one, I strongly recommend this game. If you haven't played the original, it's currently on sale so what are you waiting for? This second iteration in the Monster Prom series brings back the same player characters with a new panel of datable possibilities (some of the old ones, plus some brand new). More funny dialogues, silly situations, new mecanics and hilarious storylines seems to be in store. The extras and achievements are not implemented yet but are in the work, but the game is fully playable alone or with friends (up to 4 players). The game let you pick between 3 game length now (30, 60 or 90 minutes) and we went for a 2 players 90 minutes game for the first try, which was super fun. I can't wait to play a lot more of this, strongly recommended if you loved the first one.
I won this weird roguelike from a friend on SG and I was very curious about it. I had never heard of it before but the concept was sounding interesting. You're a new hire in a startup company and discover that under the current office are the offices of 3 other defunct startups which failed and went under. They now serve as dungeons that you'll have to explore to get different artifacts and accomplish different missions to progress in the story. It might not look the most polished visually, as the art style is very colorful and blocky, but the game is actually a lot of fun. The game is not easy but the developpers offered a custom mode if you're really stuck and want to make the experience a little less brutal.
Another Artifex HoG, nothing much to say about it, I just felt like playing something relaxing one evening and went with this. Again, middle of the pack quality: they have done better but also way worse. Okayish if you've already played the better ones.
Same as the previous one. Actually out of the 3 HoG I played this month this is the one I enjoyed less, for no specific reason. Maybe actually because I had played the 2 others and it wasn't much different, but it was relaxing, which is pretty much all I expect from them.
Monster Caaaaamp! I’m so happy you gave it to me, I’m so happy we played! I’m so excited to play it again with you! :D
I want days with 40 hours like yours, to finish all the games you finish! And yay that you finally played Doki Doki!
I wish my days had 40 hours in
And yes, I can’t wait to play more Monster Camp, that first game was really silly and fun <3
So many games beaten this month!
I was kind of curious about Going Under but learning it’s a roguelike makes me a bit hesitant. It’s also kind of expensive?
They were mostly short games but at least there is progress.
To be honest Going Under is very fun but it’s not as good as Hades or Dead Cells. I think if roguelike is not your favourite genre (hence you don’t play a lot of them) there are better value for your money out there. There is a demo here but I’m not sure if it’s still working since the demo festival period has ended. You can always try to install the package and see if it works.
Short games are still games - you’ll defeat that backlog at this rate!
And thanks. I’ll probably check some gameplay videos on Youtube or see if anyone’s streaming on Twitch. :3
