Wow. I enjoyed that a bit too much. I actually liked it better than Mass Effect. I think mostly because it didn’t require me to hunt for bullets for my weapons most of the time. It even has unlimited arrows! And the tactics setup was very useful so I don’t micromanage all the time. This is something I wish they also had in Mass Effect. I still cringe each time I’m trying to get ahold of my mates while fighting in ME. Or maybe it’s in ME and I didn’t know…

I also finished the DLCs, except the darkspawn chronicles since I don’t think that’s necessary for the story? Just got frustrated how I lost ALL of my lyrium when I played the DLCs, and playing as a mage, it made Golems of Amgarrak a whole lot harder than it already is. I got more lyrium later on on Witch Hunt, but it’s quite short and I don’t plan to play anything else after that.

Just a shame I didn’t get Leliana in the main campaign, so I had no idea who she was in the DLC. I completely missed her coz she was in some building I think. I got the qunari though coz he was right outside in full view. I was already a bit of distance away when I learned about her (was trying to play blind), and I didn’t want to have to play all over again just to get her.

It was challenging to play at first coz I wasn’t used to this kind of play, pausing and playing all the time, but now that I’ve played it, I think it’s a lot better than having to react immediately all the time on impending danger. Kinda like turn-based games.

Overall can’t wait to play the next one in the series. But I also want to play my other games. I’m on the last Bioshock already, and I also can’t wait to finish it.

10/10

EDIT: I think one of the main things ME did better though are the characters. I felt a whole lot connected to Mordin, Kaidan, and the gang than to Morrigan, Alistair, and so on.

Dragon Age Origins is one of my fondest memories as well (together with ME :D). I had a lot of fun playing it and the dialogues were just so great. Speaking with your companions at camp was definitely one of the highlights of the game for me.

The fighting systems took me some time to get used to as well, but I, too, liked it very much by the end of the game.

Good luck with your next game :)

It was fun talking to them and getting to know them more at the camp but I felt the dialogue were pretty limited, at least compared to ME. The constant banter between the characters was fun though, and it helps that I can change the characters on many maps, unlike in ME where I only have a couple with me at all times and have to go back to the ship to change them.

Maybe it’s just on DA:O though. I played through ME 1-3 already and I’ve only played the first DA.

I think you might be the first person to write a review and miss Leliana. Hell, more missed Sten. :D

Which I really like in DAO - fact you can actually completely miss out on certain companions and game accommodates that condition. I liked the game overall too, but really if you have a single mage in your party is a total cakewalk. It only turns into something requiring a semblance of tactics if you omit magic because suddenly level layout and choke points matter a whole lot more, not to mention giving everyone a ranged weapon becomes highly recommended. Good thing is there’s plenty of real-time with pause CRPGs for you to hunt down now.

Wow, really? It was kinda hard to miss Sten for me. And I didn’t even use him that much. After I found out about Leliana, I kept checking around in case I missed another potential party member.

I know that complaining about banner images covering up the game-play stats is a losing battle, but this:
Mass Age: 3 Origins
This is just wrong.

Played it via GOG, not Steam, so no Steam achievements. :’( DA:O Ultimate Steam edition is not available in our country.

My GOG profile is here.

Dragon Age Origins is one of my alltime favorites. I love it sooo much! Dragon Age 2 is also a really good game in my opinion but the third one, oh man, I just can’t get into it. I really really hope and pray, that Bioware does way better in Dragon Age 4. I’m super excited!

Nisbett

Hmm, strange. A few friends I’ve talked to said 2 isn’t that good. But I enjoyed the first one a lot so I’ll still play it.

I didn’t even realize they’re setting for DA4! More motivation for me to go through 2 and 3!
