Update One Hundred and Six: 29 December 2017
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
Rrrrrrrgggg, okay. I don’t really want to play this right now.
I don’t think what kind of game this was clicked with me at first - I thought it was going to be a lot more relaxing than it was. What it is is a kind of repetitive timing-based 2D sidescroller, which isn’t something I totally love.
You play as Sally and Sally’s dad. First you go through each level as Sally… and then you play through them as her dad (or his ghost?). Sally can’t stop moving, but can jump - Sally’s dad can’t jump, but moves faster than Sally and you control his movements. Sally bumps into him to launch him into the air to ‘jump’.
I dunno, it’s cutesy but it’s a little frustrating, and having to replay things over and over again essentially racing myself to do everything right is stressin me out. The story is pretty average, but the more I think about the less I like it. So, the best part of games is how the mechanics of the game feed into and are exemplified in the story, right? So, the story is Sally is incredibly lucky and her life is so charmed and easy that obstacles melt away before her… because you as her father(‘s ghost?) rush ahead of her to clear the way for her, even when she’s a grown ass adult. I dunno! This could be a me thing, with my complicated relationship with my late father, but that didn’t sit right with me.
It’s not this game’s fault - I’m going to mark this as ‘unfinished’ and try again later - but I was expecting something different than what I got, and I’m just too antsy to deal with that right now.
Why am I antsy? Well.
Next up: My amazing and incredible girlfriend got me, among other things, something I have been ultra super mega dying to play. I’ll see you guys in like a fuckin month as I endeavour to 100% complete -
