Second week of May progress
I did things this week. I have mostly beaten really short games, but hey at least the number of unplayed games gets lower :)
Completed SG wins
Gone In November - The quality of this walking simulator is just bad. It looks like garbage, has typos and the way it approaches the subject of suicide, self harm and cancer is just really weird, which is a shame since you could probably make a really good and emotional game on these subjects.
The Lost Valley - Another walking sim. This one has the single worst settings menu I have seen in my life. You literally can’t tell if you actually selected something or not. Also it has no sound options what so ever so the whole game had to go on mute (waiting for Skanda to come comment on my sound options preferences :P). It is also missing a sprint button and the most important thing when it comes to walking sims - a story. It is not like it has a bad story, nope, it has no story at all. The only good part is that the game looks really nice if you ignore the shitty rain effect at the beginning of the game and some graphical glitches here and there.
Other completed games
Devils Share - Absolute garbage. If the game wasn’t bad enough it also crashes a lot and it even made my Explorer crash.
Escape This - It is one of those crappy unity games that if you have multiple monitors its always gonna start on the wrong one (in my case on one that is in fucking portrait mode so the aspect ratio is all kinds of screwed up) and it will give you no way to actually change it. If that is not enough the UI is also horrible and the game is not good either.
Half-Life 2: Lost Coast - Don’t lynch me but I was never a fan of the Half Life games. I just needed something that is quick to complete and get rid of from my backlog so I picked this one up. It is basically a really short tech demo with some dev commentary with it, just that the voice commentary didn’t work for me at all so I had to read the subtitles. Also had some visual glitches here and there.
Alchemy Mysteries: Prague Legends - I have over 130 games installed and I wanted to finish and uninstall one of them so I told my boyfriend to pick a letter and number and in the end this game ended up getting the honor of getting completed a year after I originally started it. It is a HOG with an interesting mechanic that you don’t really see - you sometimes have to use items from your inventory on HOS. But that is the only positive thing I have to say about it. The bad things are that the game is confusing, the voice acting is loud AF even if you have all the volume sliders all the way down and the game is in a weird 3D-ish kind of map where in each room you can turn around to face 4 different directions and each of them are kind of a separate space.
That's Mahjong! - As the game implies it is a Mahjong game, but it is not too bad, but there are better ones out there. There is a total of 10 different tile configurations and over 25 themes to choose from. My main problem with it is that it is sometimes hard to see which tiles are available to choose and which are not as the game doesn’t make it look clear.
Look into the past
-
Demon Hunter: Chronicles from Beyond
-
Chef Solitaire: USA
-
Demon Hunter 2: New Chapter
-
The Magical Silence
-
Plantera
Demon Hunter: Chronicles from Beyond - Completed in March 2017. You would think that I would have ran out of old HOGs I played by now? Yea not even close. This one is ok, but there are many way better ones out there.
Chef Solitaire: USA - Completed in March 2017. Very good solitare game.
Demon Hunter 2: New Chapter - Completed in March 2017. As with the first one, it was ok, but Artifex Mundi has way better HOGs you can play out there.
The Magical Silence - Completed in March 2017. Really short and really weird game with really really weird puzzles.
Plantera - Completed in March 2017. Clicker game done a bit differently from the usual as you get to grow your own garden complete with animals. I really enjoyed it.
A win is a win, and a complete is complete! Good job getting them all out of your backlog.
I get the feeling of alienation from not loving things that are vastly culturally loved - nobody should lynch you for disliking the Half-Life games. Nothing’s going to work for everyone. It’s tough, though, being surrounded by people who LOVE X but you just… don’t think… X is all that good.
Thank you!
True and it holds true for more than just video games. I just said it as a joke since on the internet it seems like that everyone and their mom just love that game and want a third one while I could not care less for it.
Sorry you had a rough gaming week. :( Hope next one is better!
I looked at the screenshots of Gone in November and that Windows “Bliss” wallpaper alone is so blurry holy moly wanna vomit. Every time I see the header image it intrigues me and I think it’s some sort of typing/wordplay game but then am sadly reminded of the truth. :P
I hope so too, thank you! :)
Luckily you only get to see it for a second or two, but since the rest of the game also looks like shit it doesn’t really help :P Yea I would not recommend playing it and I am very surprised it has 52% positive rating :o
