Taking advantage of the monthly theme, I moved INSIDE to the top of the queue and beaten it :)
In case you don’t know, it’s from the same guys who also made LIMBO (you can tell from the similar styles).
What I can tell you is that INSIDE is easier than LIMBO :)
Well, that may not be a pro for you but I got stuck in many places while playing LIMBO (started back in 2013 and beaten only recently) while I almost had no problem here (yes, most probably I’m better now at games than then, but I don’t think this is the reason).
Furthermore, it was “scarier” D: it’s not an horror game and I remember dying a lot more while playing LIMBO but I played most of this with a sense of tension that I couldn’t shake off. Very well made!
If you usually avoid scary games, try to cope with those feelings for once and play this, you won’t be disappointed. Also, I’m pretty sure (90-95%) there are no jump-scares, if those are your problem. I mean, I don’t like them either and there may be one but I thought about it and don’t recall any.
If you’re into achievements, there are many (all?) missable, I found almost all of them during my playthrough, I missed one because I still hadn’t completely understood how the game worked; missed another one ‘cause I wasn’t good enough at driving that submarine; one which I absolutely did not see (my fault for playing while the sunlight hit my face and I couldn’t see well) and, obviously the one for collecting all the pieces.
First of all great styling on your post, I really like it. Inside takes a special place in my heart. I honestly enjoyed Inside more than Limbo not for the same reasons as yours but just for the art style and the outstanding sound effects which are out of this world. Felt such a connection with this little fellow which I’ve never experienced before. I also missed the very first secret the one in the corn field, well that was so fucking not cool to place such a hidden secret there in the beggining. The games feel so smooth and neatly and I really liked the premises of the story.
For me that game is solid 10/10 and can proudly represent the gaming as art.
Thanks ^_^
About that first secret, I had spotted it as soon as I got there; the problem was that I was standing with the boy on the door, thus pulling the handle did nothing. And having no idea how the mechanics of the game worked yet, I simply moved on :v
I agree story was good and was easy to identify with that boy. Didn’t give it the highest score because there have been some moments (albeit short) where I was starting to get bored; puzzles were generally a bit too easy and gametime was sliiightly on the short side all that escape run at the end felt a bit forced/just there to add length
I’ve also experienced some graphic glitches toward the end :\
I quite enjoyed INSIDE myself. It gave me a bit to think about, also the atmosphere was top notch. Although I think Limbo made more impactful impression back when I played it first few years ago :)
hehee, these games where not everything is set on stone leaving you wondering are the best/worst =P
I think LIMBO was the first to create such a strong atmosphere with just two colors and not a single word (if there have been some prior to it, I’ve never seen ‘em). Almost story without a story.
That could also have added that “something more” to the game.
I remember I enjoyed LIMBO at first but then the raising difficulty kind of put me off and moved to other games. Don’t know if you also read my LIMBO review but when I got back to it (after joining here) I realized I had stopped very close to the end! Like, two minutes left XD
So in the end it wasn’t very frustrating; died a lot, true, but also kept me going until the end, which is a good compromise imho :)
If by “missable” achievement you mean that if you finish the game casually you won’t get 100% then yes there are a bunch of missable one. But that’s true for a lot of games.
I believe the real usage for ‘missable achievement’ is for when you can miss an achievement and need to restart the whole game because it was a choice or a branching road or something like that that requires as said to restart the game entirely.
So I don’t think there are any missable achievements. Since you can select chapters after you finish the game so you can collect what you missed and revisit places you want to.
But yeah INSIDE is a great game. I can confirm that sense of tension, but it was a pretty good one. Well worth it!
I got this “denomination” from Astats, where they tag as Missable those achievements that you can miss. Those that are either one or the other I believe are tagged as Limited instead.
In this case you could be right though; that’s how I’ve always interpreted the missable tag and, since not every game has tags (I think they are added on users’ suggestions), I thought that maybe they hadn’t been added to a certain game yet (like INSIDE).
But following your reasoning they could have no tag because they don’t need it, not because they haven’t been added yet (they aren’t storyline related nor missable ones as you intend, so they end up without tag).
I even looked for a legenda of such tags before replying to you but I couldn’t find any. I think it was in the forum which, I’ve just discovered, has been wiped off clean during these holidays by someone unkown.
Yup. I’ve written it with the intention of giving it a positive tone. Hope I managed to =P
Ah well you made me google missable achievements as well xD and it seems like the definition evolved towards the broader side you referred to. Everything that can be missed in a single playthrough is missable.
But as said, to me, missable achievements is like a warning, achievements can be a pain to get. But I guess to list any missable achievement as such is fair too. I’ll have to update my understanding!
