January - April 2019 Update

Finished: Singularity

I don’t have much to say about this one - the story and the switching between past/future game mechanic were interesting, but everything else I felt was rather bland. Feels pretty much like your generic FPS otherwise.

Finished: Alpha Protocol

I also don’t have much to say about this one either, I’m afraid. The combat is absolutely atrocious, but if you can get past that it’s not a half bad spy game. I guess I’m on a streak of playing games that don’t really grab me…gotta get through them at some point though!

Playing Next: RAGE. I finally got this bad boy to run at 144 fps properly, although sometimes the audio dies when I’m in a vehicle. Aside from that, it’s running well and I am enjoying it. I was also going to get going on Fallout: New Vegas again (I’ve logged quite a few hours in the past and I’ve still got a save from then) but it keeps crashing after awhile and I don’t have the patience to figure out which mod is responsible yet. If I do, I’ll be committing to finally finishing that damn (wonderful!) game. Same goes for Fallout 3, and then Skyrim and Oblivion (although I did beat Oblivion, just 1 of the DLCs remains).

I also have some SG games to get through - I started Risen but I’m struggling to get through it after being blessed by the great RPGs that came after it. I’ll get through it, and the other Risens, sometime though.

Lucky Thirteen

Alpha Protocol is, in my opinion, a great stealth game. You are right though, the combat felt kind of like a last minute addition and it’s stupid that the game forced you to shoot your way through some parts (like the boss fights or that stupid helicopter).

As for Risen, I played and enjoyed all three. Hopefully you’ll end up having a good time too, they’re pretty fine RPGs! :)

I think Alpha Protocol had the building blocks for being great at a lot of things but just fell short in pretty much every department, which is a damn shame. I don’t think I’d consider it a great stealth game myself, as it felt too clunky and could have used more mechanics to flesh it out - the forced shooting was definitely a big hamper in that.

Regarding Risen, I hope the same. I think it’s more so that I don’t have as much time to game anymore, so games like Risen are harder for me to get into to.

Also, I see you’ve got Mankind Divided to play soon - an awesome game, minus the ending. I think it was an overall improvement over HR. Hope you enjoy it!

Lucky Thirteen

Oh yeah, I really need to play Mankind Divided. It’s a shame that I’m taking so long, seeing how it’s a SG win from a group focused on actually playing your wins (which I’ve been promptly kicked from - rightfully so). A real shame.

Oh boy, seems like the first two games were not memorable/much fun, but still good job with finishing them & the progress! By the way, since you mentioned RAGE, are you looking forward to the sequel?

I don’t have much interest in the first one, but this one… ohhh it’s all vibrant, insane, and just seems like a heck of a time. Others have also mentioned that the obvious change (like from RAGE’s dry setting to this now neon-colored world) have put them off. Just curious how others feel about that!

Sorry for the mega late reply! I am indeed looking forward to the sequel - it looks like it’ll be a more open world DOOM with a different touch of wildness added into it. Personally, I much prefer vibrant games, but RAGE is one of the few games with a dry setting that appeals to me for some reason. I won’t be buying any new games for awhile though (except for the new DOOM!), I’ve got a massive backlog to trudge through!

Will you be getting the new RAGE?

moonie

No worries about your response! And sorry for my late reply as well, life’s been hectic these past few days 😳How you described the new game is pretty what I’ve been thinking (especially about the vibrant thing)! And sadly, no, I don’t have money or a powerful PC for any games like that, but it’s okay since there’s always time in the future :)

DOOM ETERNAL looks insane as well (when has the series never been? ;P), I wish you a good damn time with it and I’m definitely interested in reading you and others people’s feelings on it here.

I wish you a damn good time as well whenever you get around to RAGE or DOOM, and with the rest of the games in your backlog. Seems you’ve got quite a few interesting ones!
