Hola!! :)
So the only game I can play/own for this month is Lucius but the game looks reeeally scary. For the ones that have play this game is it too scary?
So I start playing Last Days of Spring Visual Novel yesterday and I just finish the game like 5 min ago from this update. Its my first visual novel game I played and I didnt like it that much, it wasnt bad but I dont know…
Do you like Visual Novel games?
The only VN I’ve tried so far is Hatoful Boyfriend and I wasn’t impressed. I think I lasted about 10 minutes into the game before I lost the will to live ;) Not sure if I picked a bad one to start with but it had really positive reviews.
The best thing in Hatoful Boyfriend is the true route, it is totally worth the entire game, but it gets unlocked only after having completed all the character’s routes (endings). I wouldn’t recommend this vn otherwise, the individual routes are pretty boring, so it gets a while to unlock the true route.
I was like that with this game :) , clicking and clicking waiting for something interesting to happen. And I thought I should just go and read a book it would be better. The only choices you have in this game are at the very ending so I didnt see the point.
If in Lucius you’re playing the evil character rather than the victim like most other horror games, it may not be so scary. :)
I think you have to treat VNs like every other genre/media. There’s lots of variety, some good, others not so much, but there does seem to be a lot more trash in the limelight than other media.
Like ShandyAndy, I’ve also played Hatoful Boyfriend, playing only 10 minutes won’t do it any justice as it’s just a novelty at that point, you may need perseverance as the best part comes later on as well as any explanation as to why, which I thought was pretty great.
It may also be worth looking into non-anime-styled visual novels like Cinders or even “Choose Your Own Adventure” games such as those from Tin Man Games.
Few other mentions as VNs that stood out to me: Analogue: A Hate Story, Long Live the Queen and CUPID which is F2P. Although it goes without saying, it’s not a guarantee you’ll enjoy any of these games.
I think I have a lot of perseverance since I finish this game :)
And you are right there are some good games and bad, so I will try VN games again but I will start with recommendations from people so thanks for mentioning games you like.
^ What Akantha said.
Last Days of Spring is one of the vn I hate the most.
Plus I’d recommend some of the following to start.
Free on Steam: Cupid, The Sad Story of Emmeline Burns (short, kinetic), Narcissu (if you want to cry, kinetic).
Commercial ones on Steam: Analogue: A Hate Story (there’s more interaction than your usual vn), Loren The Amazon Princess (with turn based battles), Long Live The Queen (this has the roguelike tag because you’ll die a lot).
Free outside Steam: Juniper’s Knot (short, kinetic), Katawa Shoujo (18+, it’s pretty important in the history of Western-made vns)
(kinetic = there are no choices but it does not mean they are boring)
It was really bad
And thanks a lot for the suggestions I think I wil try first Cupid since is F2P and etion twice.
I didnt knew the meaning of kinect so I just learn something new :)
I don’t know, maybe something is wrong with me, but Lucius is providing me with a lot of fun so far :D You’re are playing as a little maniac boy finding the ways to kill your victims so that it would look like an accident. Somehow this game has a nice atmosphere. And I laughed at some moments. Maybe I don’t take it too serious, I don’t know :) Though it also has some gore moments (when killing the victim, for example).
P.S. I think I’m finishing it soon, so you might see my post in a few days :)
Then I will play it, I am installing right now and see how good I am being a little maniac boy :o
I will be wating for your post :)
Sorry, it’s always hard to me to force myself to do something so it took longer than I wanted. Here’s the post.
Thanks! (=^.^=)
I start playing Lucius and its been pretty fun so far
Personally, I don’t think Lucius is scary. It may be a bit cruel and might have some creepy aspects to it but there’s no jump scares or anything like that, just you playing a little boy with demonic abilities who wanders around and kills everyone and makes it look like an accident. xD
I’ve only recently gotten into VNs and haven’t played that many yet but I do have Last Days of Spring in my library. I think VNs can be quite entertaining as long as the story is interesting and fun and keeps you focused. I’m someone who loves horror and mystery and people have suggested that I should get Higurashi When They Cry and Umineko. Not sure if they’re any good but I’m definitely looking forward to checking them out once I can get my hands on them. =)
They’re pretty famous. I would also suggest The House in Fata Morgana.
Already on my wishlist. =)
Thats really good to know. I play Gone Home and thought it was a scary game so I was waiting the whole game for jump scares and there werent any. At the end I feel dumb and laugh :)
I will play Lucius and see how many “accident” I can come up with xD
And thanks for the suggestions I will try them out when I can get them
Frankly, only visual novels I played were two Suikogaidens so I’m not sure.
I know the feeling, since this is my first I was not sure either :)
