December/January: Light and Shadow
Welcome to winter! Depending on where you are, the days are getting shorter, the nights seem longer, and you pretty much always have to have a light on to be able to go about your day. Let's double down on that, shall we? Games fitting the theme should revolve around light, shadow or the contrast between both, either as a major gameplay mechanic like in Schim or Alan Wake, or even just as the overall aesthetic, like pretty much any noir themed game.

FAQ
Do I have to participate in this month’s theme?
No, as with every theme, these are merely suggestions for anyone who is unsure about what to play next. If you already have a battle plan for your backlog and/or don’t like this month’s theme, you’re free to ignore it.
What happens if I don’t participate in the theme?
Nothing.
What happens if I play all of my unfinished games before the theme is over?
Your backlog will be a much smaller place.
I don’t have any unfinished games - I’ve beaten everything I’ve started.
Really? well that makes one of us… I salute you.
I already finished my entry can I play another?
Go ahead - the goal is to reduce your unfinished games list. The more you can play the better.

Among the Sleep
Nothing I’m planning to play this month fits the theme except this, but I have to drop it. The camera gives me nausea. Oh well.

Planet of Lana followed the theme as well. Lana tranversed through the sunny shores and on to the dark undergrowth of Massive ancient trees. …She did make it out and a had a nice lil happily ever after…Good game.
Ahh…nice game to start a Happy new Year. 💖
I still really love these themes. If I weren’t stuck on Skyrim (when I play at all), I’d be all over these themes. Thank you for continuing them!
Ahh…I feel you.
Took me 5 years to get done with it. I was obsessed the first time around. I forgot to eat or sleep, until one fine day my laptop crashed. A coincidence, not the cause.
Fast forward, a couple of months. I got the same save files back up and dove neck deep into modding. I was so involved in it, that playing the game to its completion felt like such a task. This kept happening
Anyways, I procrastinated for years and finally got done with the game last year. It was an extremely underwhelming end.
I realised that I shouldn’t have cared so much about it, since I didnt feel like it. I should have just ditched it and moved on to better, fresher stuff. I had it installed and its presence on my drive insisted upon me occasionally. In order to get closure, should have watched gameplay highlights instead! Not worth it.
Wow…five years is a long time. I hope it doesn’t take me that long…it will depend on if I keep playing it or set it aside. Then it could drag on for years.
I also recently picked up Skyrim VR, so I might have to give that a try…
Aw, thank you for saying that! And good luck with getting through Skyrim! (I luckily have no interest in those super long games right now)
