Well so here goes! First are my personal guidelines for backlogging (single player games):

• Continously prioritize and rank games I actually want to enjoy playing
• Extensively research the quality of and reasonable chance of completing a given game before ever starting it
• Never have more than 1-3 ongoing games at any one point depending on complexity (allow myself breaks from complex games to enjoy casual games once in a while)
• Multiplayer-focused games are never considered complete and if I get a chance to play such a game with friends I will always prioritize that above my backlog
• If I do feel the need the quit a game halfway through, I will halt it indefinitely and accept the fact that I will never return to it because my backlog is neverending and it would not be worth it to try to pick up the game again (if it was worth it I would have completed it the first time around).
• Refrain from purchasing any new games at all unless I intend for them to immediately skip my backlog ranking queue and actually be played within reasonable time, and/or fall under the multiplayer exception rule.
• Always go for 100% achievements or at least one full playthrough with max possible # of achievements.

Because of my strict backlogging rule I usually don’t have too many games at any given point in my actual backlog (because my neverending stream of games hasn’t been queued up for it yet).
