Yooo tis a super late post cuz I just got back from the graduation trip to Tokyo with my senior high school friends. :D Thought about doing the post before going out but ended up having to pack for stuff instead.
This month is pretty good. Did some cleanups of games I haven't finished and played a bunch of short sg win titles cuz of pagywosg event. September's progress is probably gonna be less tho since there's already a third of the month dedicated to trips. :P But it's fine~I'll probably still play a game or two for sg event and a game for Challenge Me. Planning on playing the 2 short DLC for To the Moon so that'll be quick. Gotta catch up on DbD dailies tho. lol

👍Positive:
Art style and music. Also the way they handled the story.
🤷Neutral:
Story might be too depressing for some people.
Full reviewThis is such a depressing game holy shit. I did not expect that at all. It's a pagywosg game.
From the start I know that it's not going to be a "happy" game, but I was expecting horror, not depression. I won't really go into much detail about the story since that'll spoil it, but I really think they did well on the part when I encountered the monster and I felt really angry, but then at the final moment I can't help but feel sad for her when she's looking down at the photos. And damn did the credits make me cry with the photos and music. So well done! I just felt super sad about what could've been and what did not happen. Throughout the game I didn't encounter any problems with the point and click aspect, but the choices were a bit vague as to what the outcomes were, but they largely don't matter that much so I think it's fine. It's the "you have a choice but not really" type of VN but tbh I don't mind at all, as it's telling such a delicate story that needs the preciseness in dialogues. The art style is great. Looks pleasing and delivers the emotional weight that it needs. And I really like their choice for "voices" as it's not overly annoying fake speaking, and gives out the appropriate emotions.
So yeah. Would 100% recommend if you have the emotional strength to go on the journey.

👍Positive:
Art style looks great. Cultural values portrayed well.
🤷Neutral:
Story is not that interesting.
👎Negative:
Directions not clear. A bit of control problems.
Full reviewThis is a Challenge Me game. This is such an unique game. The feeling of experiencing a culture that I'm totally unfamiliar with, and the game really does capture the essence of inupiat people's culture. Just noticed that I haven't played this kinda story driven games in a while. Kinda makes me not know where to start. :P
I suppose let's talk about the story first. Honestly, it doesn't make much sense. However, I don't really mind that since then again, it's those kinda bedtime fairytale stories that old people will tell kids(as evident by the cultural insights) so it doesn't really need to make much sense. I like it tho, especially that they chose to use their language to tell the story. Gives it an original feeling.
Next up is the art style, which is just great. The girl is so cute, the fox is so adorable, the bad guy in the main game isn't that terrifying but is hideous looking, and the boss in the DLC is absolutely horrifying. And the unique inupiat art style in the cut scenes is just super cool.
Finally, the gameplay, which is the part that I have some problems with. I will say tho, some of the mechanics of the game is pretty interesting. Like guiding the spirits with your fox, and platforming with winds. But I think that this game shares a lot of the problem that LIMBO and Inside has, which is more of a trail and error gameplay. You go forward, you died. Re-spawn and you'll know what to do next time. But this game does it poorly in that sometimes in a chase sequence or really any platforming you have to stop to wait for something to happen before being able to continue, and that really breaks the momentum. It also doesn't indicate direction very well, which is frustrating at times. For example, the first time you got the bola you couldn't fire it to the left, so I just assumed that you can only fire to the right. The next escape sequence however required me to fire to the left and I just didn't know I could so I died. Another example is when the polar bear chased you for the first time, when coming to the part where you need the fish, there's no indication that you could hit the bear with the bola, so I didn't know and died a lot there. I even forgot that I need to do that the second time I go back for insights. That's how you'll know you have a design flaw when even the player that have already played it didn't know what to do. Lastly, the controls are not that great. The girl moves and jumps weirdly at times. And when getting stuck or clipping into something, I suppose it just triggers the unstuck command to teleport the girl out of the location. I have the biggest frustration however with the foxtale DLC. I'm pretty sure it's my resolution problem since I looked up on Youtube and other people's tunnels are far wider than mine, but the final puzzles has this really narrow tunnel at the very bottom and your fox need to get across a few times. My fox just keeps getting stuck and unable to pass through. It's the most annoying thing ever because I was also stuck on the puzzle itself, so having to fumble around the tunnel while stuck just makes me mad. lol That really effected my overall view of the game I'd say.
I did still enjoy the game. It's interesting, it's fun. Furthermore it's learning/knowing something you never know before and it's beautiful. Will recommend.

Pretty fun gameplay.

Rogue-lite system. Some people like it some people don't.
👎Negative:
Screen shaking effect causing players to get hit when they can't see. Me not liking bullet hell games.
Full reviewThis is a pagywosg game. This game is pretty good! Though I already suspected that this one is gonna be good when picking.
This is a rogue-lite top down shooter game. It's weird that there's no rogue-lite tag in the steam page, but it's a major thing for the game. Personally I don't enjoy rogue-lites/likes unless there's constant unlocks and progression since I really like progression in game and the feeling of achieving something step by step, but some people do like it. Each time you play you start a new game with 3 doors to pick from. each door has same monsters but different bosses, and the game adds buffs to the monsters depending on which boss you defeat. You also can choose an upgrade out of the 3 species for the rooms after defeating each boss. It's also a bullet hell like game btw, and boy oh boy am I bad at bullet hell games.
I already know from past experience that I do not like or am good at bullet hell games, but since it's marked as top down shooter I thought it would be fine. In fact, the first and the third boss are fine since their projectiles have patterns. After dying a bunch I managed to defeat them. But the second boss is just a fucking mess since the boss itself not only splits to two when you hurt it enough, it also spawns 2 monsters each time it splits. The bosses also shoot out a lot of projectiles in different direction, causing it all to become very chaotic. It's just super frustrating to deal with especially that the smallest version boss moves unpredictably. Thankfully I defeated it before I get really mad and quit. Even managed to defeat the first boss in the same playthrough, although still died at the third room due to monsters being too strong and projectile flying everywhere. I'm really bad at dodging. Often times I even run to the projectiles.....Orz
I do have one problem with the game tho. There's a special effect that shakes the screen when there's an explosion on the screen. It wouldn't really be a problem if there's no projectiles, but since when it's shaking you can't see a thing often times I found myself getting hit when the screen is shaking and I can't see a damn thing. It just feels like my life points got cheated away, which is a bit annoying. Other than that, the game is pretty fun. I don't plan on attempting defeating all bosses in the same run since I don't really want to. It's a shame that according to Youtube videos there's actually a final boss and also the escape sequence is pretty cool, but I'm done with the game for now. Give it a try if you own the game. I'd say it's a little hidden gem.

👍Positive:
Adds an entire side storyline. The same enjoyable main game mechanics. Great exciting story moments.
🤷Neutral:
Story itself is a bit cliche.
👎Negative:
There could be some problems getting to it after finishing the main game.
Full reviewThis is a Monthly Theme DLC~I got gifted this a while ago, but I've already completed the main game and forgot about most of the commands, so I couldn't bring myself to go back to it and play it. I originally thought it's only going to be a few side quests, but it ended up being a whole branch of side stories, which is super cool.
Since I already finished the game and the DLC is in the form of a mission, I had to try to get to the mission with my existing saves since I don't really wanna restart the game again. I first started with my completed save file, but I forgot that somehow that save file is stuck in a mission for entropy and you can't really abort entropy missions, and I also can't complete the mission either. So I spent a bunch of times to familiar myself with the commands and also to figure out how to get to the mission. Ended up having to use my older save that I got the Rude achievement on. Played a bit of the storyline to get to the actually DLC. A bit annoying really.
Tbh the storyline of the DLC is not that impressive. It's more of the same take mission, do task, get some dialogues in return. However, the two noticeable moments are very good in what they achieve. It's spoiler so I won't go into detail about them but I got goose bumps when the first one happened even though a similar thing happened in the main game, and the second one really got me nervous. Ended up restarting that segment since I panicked and didn't read the instructions in the chat clearly and almost ran out of time. Those are very memorable and the new gadgets and stuff that I got are pretty cool.
Overall, I really enjoyed the DLC. Surpassed my expectations a lot and had more content than anticipated. Would recommend if you like the basegame mechanic.

No replay value. Grindy achievements.
Full reviewI found myself playing a couple of Digital Melody's games lately(this game, Timberman and recently played a bit of Masky to get more achievements) and I must say, I don't particularly enjoy their games. Their games are usually party games with very little replayability. The gameplay itself is not usually a bad one, just gets boring after a while. They also usually have very grindy achievements so that's also annoying. This game is no exception, although I did enjoy its gameplay more than Timberman and Masky.

Story could've been expanded on.
Full reviewAaaa another sad game. Not as sad as Lydia tho, but still sad. This is a pagywosg game btw.
This is a RPG maker game that tells the stories of 2 broken family. It's basically a pure story game with small choices effecting dialogue and a big final choice. The story is told in a bit of time jumping sequence, which makes it a bit confusing since characters doesn't look that distinct from each other, and also you don't really get to know much about each character since all scenes are very short. This game could really benefit from just adding more to the story. Give us more time to get familiar and really know the characters. Why should I care if a character I barely know dies? And the final plot twist I saw that long ways away. Was silently yelling when the boy wonders off with the dog. Gotta say, the dog is the fucking villain here. lol But in the end it got a home. Evil dog!
Overall I enjoyed the game, although it was boring at times. I can see the potential but it's not fully explored so a shame really.

👍Positive:
Art style is really cute. Concept of the time crystal is cool.

Story is cliche. Voice acting is pretty bad. Game is poorly optimized.
Full reviewSaw this game from E3 and was surprised to find a demo. Perhaps I have too much expectations? Or maybe I misjudged my feelings for these kinda games, but I was rather disappointed about the demo and will probably not keep an eye on the game if they continue in the same direction.
First off, the game doesn't run that well. Not sure if it's my laptop being weak or the game not optimized or probably both, but it jumps between 12 to 33 fps. Especially during combat the fps drops and causes lag, which makes it hard to fight since you have to press z at the correct moment to double attack or block attacks. Next, the combat is kinda, boring? I think it's just personal preference but I find it uneventful and stuff. Then comes the characters and the voice acting, which are the parts I dislike the most. Character does not react the way normal people would when coming across things is my biggest pet peeve when it comes to characters in games. Accompany that with the over dramatic voice acting you have a story where everything's floaty and fake and unrelatable. It also doesn't help that when you talk to a lot of the people for the first time you can't really interact with them, only hearing a dialogue of them talking to themselves. It made the whole town seem shallow. And when Crisbell comes out of the Cathedral she said she shouldn't go to Mother Superior cuz she won't be happy to see her like this, but I'm just like: "See you like what? Your appearance aren't changed, only your view of the world changed so why is that a problem? " Oh and, did I mention the weird control scheme? Arrow keys to move, z and space to interact/confirm, a for objectives and s for time travel power. So weird.
The only two good things I like about this game's demo are the art style and the concept of the crystal power. The art style is just really cute and is what drew my attention to the game in the first place. The crystal power is so cool in the town for the past present future split. Now I wish there's another game with better story utilizing this design in its full. Imagine a walking sim with this mechanic. That would be so totally cool!
Perhaps hype got to me again, or perhaps because it's a demo I'm not getting the full picture or the best experience it can offer, but I was disappointed.

Very boring game.
Full reviewThis is a Monthly Theme game way back for Impulse Purchases. I "beaten" it quickly at the time just so I can keep the 1 done per event streak. Now that I got all the achievements I'm willing to grind for I'll call this one a done. I found that I'm getting better and better at letting a game go when I don't think I'll be able to 100% it, which is quite nice.
I'll just say that, this is not a good game, but also not a bad game. It reminds of me Timberman but worse, cuz for Timberman at least I had a few very fun matches with my friend. This game's gameplay is just so boring, that I didn't even want to continue grinding because it also requires me to stay focused unlike Ninja Pizza Girl(which I recently went back and 100%'ed) where I could just watch Youtube videos on the side while I grind. But then again, the game itself is not really that bad per say, especially compared to most cheap games on steam. That's why the ratings are higher. Also I suppose the art is kinda nice.

Full reviewThis is a play a game you won on steamgifts game(I'll probably just use pagywosg initial in the future? Although I'm not sure most people will know what it is. lol), and it is bad. The camera movement makes me nauseous, the jumps are wonky, and the level design is just annoying. Especially for all of the 2.5D levels. If you even get a slight push to the front it throws your position away and you run the risk of the game randomly putting you to the foreground when you're just moving normally. Also, getting damaged by the spikes has a chance of pushing you to the foreground. It just doesn't work, as much as I would like for it to since in theory it's a pretty nice idea. The game just makes me bored and annoyed.

Full reviewThis is a pagywosg game. I knew beforehand that I'm mostly not going to have fun when picking these games, and I am correct for this one. Just after 2 minutes I wanna close the game and mark it complete, but since it's a pagywosg game I told myself to at least give it 30 minutes, but then when I reached the 10 minute mark I decided to give myself the goal of either getting 25 score, 150 coins or 30 minutes playtime. Ended up getting 150 coins first, with 21 score and 19 minutes of playtime.
This seems like a mobile port, or just very badly made. Likely is the latter but you click the left of the screen to jump and right of the screen to slice. Awkward controls. You have a double jump but it's barely used since if you double jump the platform you'll overshoot. You have to jump over the girl and slice ninjas. How is the score calculated? It only adds when you slice a ninja, so if you get bad spawns you can go a while with 0 score. And the coins? Most of the times you can't collect them or you'll surely fall. The only timme you can collect them are on the big platforms. When you play you can even see the platforms and people spawn and drop in front of you. It's just very boring and annoying and bad.
