May’s Stats

aka. The backlog remembers. And it’s not happy.

Hey fellow assassins! How have you been this past month?

May’s been pretty shitty for me in real life, and as a collateral damage, the backlog fight took a hit. On the bright side, I finally managed to finish Assassin’s Creed Odyssey (which was A LOT) and a few other things, but not much. The only bright side is that I didn’t add too much to the backlog either, but the backlog still won. I’m not sure if the upcoming month will be any better, because Summer seems to be finally coming, but I’ll try. At least, I haven’t caved in to buy all those new/upcoming games I was interested in.

What about you, anything new and exciting you’ve been playing? Or upcoming release you have your eyes on?

Assassin's Creed Odyssey

122 hours playtime, 58 of 88 achievements

What an adventure! It was my first AC since Blag Flag (which was a good pirate game but as an AC? meh), and what a great one to pick up the series again. They refreshed the gameplay and I felt the writing had greatly improved. I hadn't been interested in a protagonist that much since Ezio, and even tho, I loved Cassandra so much more that I was sad saying goodbye when I was done with the game. Don't get me wrong, the game is not perfect. It's still an ubi game with their own set of repetitive side quests, but it also has a great lot of unique side and main quests and an incredible game world. I wish they had finally dropped the "present time"/alien bullshit but I guess they're dragging it to justify it's still part of the AC license, and at least it's kept to a minimum. Strongly strongly recommended. Great value for your bucks.

Forager

24 hours playtime, 62 of 84 achievements

In my quest for a Stardew Valley substitution, my eyes got caught by Forager when it was first announced. Marketed as "inspired by exploration, farming and crafting games such as Stardew Valley, Terraria & Zelda", 3 of my favourite games, I had high hopes. And it did start well and sort of addictive. But then after a few hours of collecting stuff, expending the map and solving very basic puzzles/dungeons, the game just hit the grindy wall of doom. It's like a bonified clicker with a crafting/surival game appearance to lure you in. I didn't dislike it, but I wouldn't strongly recommend it either, especially not for the full price they ask for it. Wait for a discount/bundle and give it a try maybe.

Lamplight City

9 hours playtime, 23 of 42 achievements

Another really amazing game I played this month, Lamplight City is a steampunkish detective P&C by the creator of Shardlight. It does give that wadget eye feel and you know that in P&C it's a sign of quality. Really compelling and interesting adventure with 5 separate cases to solve, and where you can either fail or succeed to find the true culprit. I loved the game and can't recommend it enough to all P&C lovers.

Karma. Incarnation 1

2 hours playtime, 5 of 7 achievements

Another P&C with an amanita design feel to it (not as detailled visual style, but still), Karma Incarnation 1 was really nice to play through even tho on the quite short side. Sadly, it's clearly the first episode of what should have been a trilogy, but there hasn't been word of episode 2 from the devs in ages, so it's probably dead. That being said, this adventure is nice on itself and I recommend giving it a try if it's in your library.

Hope June will be better for you!
I appreciate your thoughts about Forager, a friend told me about the same about it and it is nice to have a confirmation. I will keep it on my wishlist and hope it gets like 75% of at some point :)

EvilBlackSheep

Thank you :3

Forager was really a bummer, especially when they promoted it as “inspired by stardew, terraria and zelda”. I mean it’s cute and all but it’s damn grindy, and is nowhere as deep as any of those 3 games. (I don’t really doubt it will end up bundled by the way, it’s edited by Humble)

Odyssey counts as 2 months of backlog by itself, so it’s still a lot of progress :catnom:

upcoming release you have your eyes on?

I’m basically waiting for SEGA to dripfeed me more Yakuza games at this point. Besides that I’ll probably check out the prices for the Danganronpa games I’m missing, I blazed through the first one for the weeb month and will beat the second as it somewhat qualifies for this month’s theme :3

It was indeed massive. I’ve played only that for weeks on.

Are you gonna buy a PS4 for more yakuza? And good on you for playing Danganronpa, best weeb games ever <3

They’re gonna come to PC eventually, I wouldn’t be surprised if they announced something at E3/PC gaming show.
I battled myself for a long time to finally get myself to buy a new mouse - I was using one of those mini-mice for notebooks for a while after mine broke - so buying a console is out of the question :catsweat:

You are always faster with those Point&Click games. I have Lamplight City on my follow light for a few months. But I rarely spent any money -_- But I’ll keep an increased focus on it now.

Also if it comforts you “Finding Paradise” is probably played pretty fast and “Guacamelee” is a good addition to any backlog. Especially if you have a co-op partner.

EvilBlackSheep

A friend kindly gave it to me for Xmas, it was about time I played it. It’s really good if you like P&C, and worth the money in my opinion, it went straight to my favourite P&Cs.

I assumed Finding paradise wasn’t too long (as To the moon wasn’t either) and Guacamelee, I already had the ‘normal’ edition and this one was give for free, i thought it wouldn’t hurt to get it. I didn’t know there was coop, but now i’m even more happy I made GF grab a free copy too \o/

I keep mixing up Karma with Karmaflow for some reason. ;D

For some reason I get the impression Wadjet Games flew under the radar for many people, but they’re a really reliable developer of P&Cs. I can’t keep up considering they pump them out almost too fast.

EvilBlackSheep

I think I was mixing it with something else too (maybe hue?) because for some reason (even tho i checked before entering the giveaway and I knew it was P&C), I kept thinking it was a plateformer. The brain makes weird associations sometimes. The other day I was mentioning to somebody how I always mix (in my head) Sleeping Dogs and Watchdogs. Go figure.

I don’t know about Wadget Eyes. I think they’re mostly known to people who love P&C. It’s one of those studio that is only aiming at a nice part of the gamers, but is doing it well. That being said, this one is not a Wadget Eye game, even tho it’s by the creator of Shardlight (not gonna lie, it’s what caught my attention on the game in the first place). Same high quality P&C though.

Yeah, there was some drama over that from what I remember as Wadjet Games lost a lead or two. I think the guy behind Lamplight City was one of them.

Nice to know those things about Forager. :o It caught my eye when one of the Stardew Youtubers I watched started playing it, and it seems so fun to play! And the art style is super cute~ Was very tempted to get it but since I don’t usually buy full price games I’m waiting for a sale. I did think I read it on their page somewhere that the game is a “idle game that you just don’t want to put down”? So that explains the clicker game-like trait. :3

You got Finding Paradise! I hope you like it. It’s got better gameplay than To the Moon but I think the story’s applicable crowd(if that even makes sense) is smaller, meaning not as much people would find it emotional and touching as To the Moon. Also imo To the Moon’s music is better.

EvilBlackSheep

Yes, the “idle game that you just don’t want to put down” is what the description became but i hadn’t seen the change. Oh well. And it IS fun to play for the first few hours, then it becomes very grindy. I’d recommend you wait for like a 50% discount, 20€ is a bit steep for what it is :/
