UPDATE NUMBER UNKNOWN +23, ABOUT THE GLORIOUS RED.
Much like the last month, I managed to beat some games for the Ruby theme. That just feels so good!
The (JUL) label indicates games played for the July monthly theme.
āļø STATUS: Beaten (still playing though)
āļø LIKED: A great rogue-like with a bit of perma progression. Worth noting is the randomized skill tree which I quite like even though it ads another layer of RNG. The game greets you with a ābest played with a controllerā message which is usually a bad omen, but luckily KB+M works perfectly fine.
ā DISLIKED: Every time you want to scrap a dropped piece of equipment, you have to equip it, open your inventory, scrap it and then re-equip the item you were using. Thatās quite inconvenient. The map sometimes rotates on its own (usually after fights with bosses and champions) even with the Dynamic Camera option disabled. Thatās obviously not a major issue, but it bugs me just a little bit :D
āļø STATUS: Beaten (JUL)
āļø LIKED: A masterfully handled mobile port where your goal is to destroy humanity by unleashing a variety of deadly diseases. Offers a lot of symptoms to choose from to build your own plague. Comes with a pretty complex level editor.
ā DISLIKED: Greenland is ridiculously hard to infect and in most cases, there isnāt much you can do about it. Some achievs rely heavily on RNG, to the point where you have to sit there for an hour and a half, reloading the same bit of a mission in hopes that the one random occurence finally happens. Iām not kidding, thatās how long it took me to get one of those random bastards - 90 minutes worth of reloading!
āļø STATUS: Beaten (JUL)
āļø LIKED: I like the idea, the game goes kind of deep with its āOldagers vs Newagersā philosophy and you can express your opinion on the matter and even slightly influence the outcome (depending on whom you choose to kill - you play as Death).
ā DISLIKED: Unfortunatelly, itās a bit of a wasted potential. This was meant to be just a small experiment, but if they made it bigger, longer and more complex, it could have been much more, because the foundation is there.
āļø STATUS: Beaten (JUL)
āļø LIKED: Surprisingly well-made āstory drivenā top-down shooter with stylized graphic and decently voiced cutscenes. Seriously, donāt let the graphic deceive you, this game is legit! Itās also free to play.
ā DISLIKED: The last level of NG+ is perhaps a bit too hard because of all those enemies who come at you all at once. I would prefer if the drawings in cutscenes were also done in the stickman fasion, but thatās just a personal preference of mine.
āļø STATUS: Completed (JUL)
āļø LIKED: An alright point & click adventure depicting the 10 plagues of Egypt. Chapters are short and you can replay them separately, making it easy to obtain missed achievs. I think Iāll be buying the other āRusty Lakeā games.
ā DISLIKED: An obvious mobile port. The Steam overlay only works half the time and the game doesnāt offer much in terms of graphic and volume settings. Thereās not even a āquitā button for fuckās sake - you have to switch to windowed mode and close the window.
āļø STATUS: Completed (JUL)
āļø LIKED: Nicely drawn gore scenes.
ā DISLIKED: Itās a laughable mixture of shallow story, idiotic characters and hilariously bad dialogues. Very clearly someoneās first attempt at writing, an attempt that failed spectacularly.
āļø STATUS: Completed (JUL)
āļø LIKED: A well written gamebook - genuinelly amusing without making you feel upset about turning such a classic piece of literature into a comedy game. The humor is spot-on most of the time and the author seems to have a fair understanding of Hamlet (the book this is based on), resulting in even the most silly scenes not feeling completely out of touch. The narrator did a pretty good job with his voice acting.
ā DISLIKED: The text auto-advances a bit too fast, some kind of option to adjust speed would have been useful. The game does have checkpoints, but you canāt place your own ābookmarksā which is a bit inconvenient when you just want to mess around.
šļø NOTE: Being at least vaguely aware of Hamletās plot probably helps a lot. For example, I imagine the āstabbing Polonius through a curtainā joke is about 100% less funny if you donāt know what the deal is.
Wait, so how exactly does it work in Asura? You use a new save slot and you get randomized skill tree? And how far is the randomization, is it just the order you can unlock stuff or the skills/buffs are randomized too?
Oh and sorry to say that but your colours on the bars a re a little eye-fuckery to me D: When I read the text between the bars I feel like itās moving and I get a slight eye strain from it. Maybe you could use different colour or use a single colour for the whole bar, instead of the fade to white?
The skill tree in Asura works similarly to the usual rogue-like stuff, itās randomized everytime you start a new run, along with the dungeon layout and the loot (both skills/buffs and the order in which you can unlock them) ;)
Well damn, Iām sorry to hear that my posts are hurting your eyes. No one complained so far, so I assumed it was all good :/ I like this fade to white though, perhaps I could make the other end of the bar lighter so the difference isnāt so big? You think that would help to make it more comfortable to read?
Ah, my fault, when I read perma progression and skill treeās, my mind instantly jumped to Rogue Legacy which has something like that in place.
Yeah I think it could help, or other way around, make the fade not so light on the right ;P Itās up to you!
Nice reviews! I have never read hamlet so most of the references went way over my head. I enjoyed it but I wish I understood them.
The rusty lake games are good but I recommend playing them in order or watching a letās play of the cube escape/rusty lake series. Only because the story does start to connect later. But they are fun by themselves as well!

Alright, Iāll try to keep that in mind, thanks for the tip :)
I donāt know what the deal was. It WAS less funny ;(
I now feel like I missed something. But! Alas! I still enjoyed To be or not to be! :]
And so many pretty, red games! <3
Glad to hear you enjoyed the game nonetheless :)
Basically, Hamlet in the original stabs the person hiding behind a curtain in his motherās bedroom, believing it to be Claudius. But it was Polonius, so another needless death, more tragedy and all that. So it was quite funny when there was a conscious choice in the game to āGo stab Polonius through a curtain.ā :D
Haha yeah, it does look quite pretty when all the thumbnails have similar colors. I went through some peopleās lists for the Ruby theme (you had a pretty one too, if I recall) and it was rather pleasant to look at.
Oooooh! I see! Well, yeah, I guess that makes it way more funny :D
Indeed, mine wasā¦ pretty red as well. But massive :D
But hey, Iāve beaten a few, so thatās alright :)
