Hello everyone. Some big family problem and work peak did not allow me to post anything for a while. Here we go with some of the games I finished during this last month:

Half-Life 2
COOP GAME

A WAY OUT

Amazing coop game with mandatory 2 players, each controlling one of the characters. Very engaging story, won't spoil anything. EPIC LAST LEVEL. You only one copy of the game for 2 players to play, even remotely. Really, really recommend this game to play with one friend.

This is a nice game, especially for its age. It's an action-puzzle game with very heavy vibes from Legend of Zelda games, with dungeon like areas in which you unlock one special items that you must use to solve the puzzles and defeat the boss. Combat is somehow repetitive due to lack of enemy variety and controls are a bit clunky, but the story was quite decent and game was overall great fun.

HUMBLE CHOICE

Cyber Hook

This game saddens me. I love this genre of jumpy parkour like games. The gameplay is very good, the controls are very responsive and the movements are consistent and fun. As every similar game, a lot of skill is involved in being able to finish the game. You can upload your runs or watch other people's, which is very fun and even useful if you get stuck in one level. So, why am I sad? Due to these two points:

  • Difficulty is not consistent. Instead of having a good learning curve, there are a lot of difficulty spikes around the midgame, and most of the latter levels are easier.
  • The game has kind of a protostory which make you want to complete more levels only for just not finishing at the end. You just complete the last level and go back to the main menu, no explanation, no ending. In a game genre that does not even need a story for work (see clustertruck, an amazing game)

Anyway, the gameplay is very fun, and makes this game worth every cent. I enjoyed it a lot even with its faults

I did not enjoy this game. I just went throught the motions to finish it as soon as possible. It's a smash 'em up with a childish story, bland characters and too high difficulty for what I assume is the target fanbase. Cannot recommend at all.

The Adventure Pals

This game is also childish, with a very cliche and weird story which is arguably amazing. The game oozes charm and it's a lot of fun to play. Graphics are very cute, and obviously take from Adventure Time. It's platformer gameplay works very well, and I enjoyed my time playing it.

I got some more, but they are not that good or interesting, so I will not waste your time. Also, the games I gave up with:

Half-Life 2

Republique

Half-Life 2

Wargroove

I also discarded Metro 2033, because of my anxiety problems, not worth it for me to play scary games right now.

Thaat’s all for today, I will try to make more regular reports!!

Have a nice backlog killing, and keep yourselves safe and healthy!

Cece09

Oh hey its you again, well done on 25 games done

Elvidur

Thank you! I was away for some time, hopefully in few weeks I will be fully back to gaming, especially since it seems we’ll lose this summer as well :_(

What did you not like about Wargroove? That might be my favorite Game Pass game, offering a decent challenge and a pretty solid difficulty curve while being (relatively) consistent, especially in Puzzle Mode.

Elvidur

It just did not feel right for me, I don’t know. I enjoyed the old Advanced wars, and did not feel the fantasy setting was that interesting. I just did not feel the drive to play it again, it felt kind of boring and not worth my time. Or it could be that my patience is decreasing in my old age :D

devonrv

boring

Wow, really? How far did you make it? I felt there was a difficulty spike as early as when mages (anti-air) are introduced, and it really gets going when you first fight Ryota (2nd mission against the yellow army). I even played it not long after Advance Wars 2 and felt Wargroove was the more challenging of the two. If nothing else, some of the later Puzzle Mode levels should give you a decent challenge (and there are more user-created levels you can download as well).

EDIT: Did you play the 2-player campaign instead of the single-player campaign? If so, then yeah, I can see your point.

the fantasy setting was[n’t] that interesting

Guess I can’t say too much about that. Then again, I didn’t really find Advance Wars’s setting that interesting, either.

Maybe it’s one of those scenarios where, the more games you play, the more you realize you just don’t like the genre? I ended up that way with RPGs, thinking “there’s potential here, they’d be good if they just did this,” only to find one that does that and realize: nope.

SharkY

I hope everything is alright at your family now and you have more time for this stuff ^^
I’m happy to see you enjoyed Cyberhook, I agree the game’s difficulty is awful at some points, there were levels where I literally spent 30 minutes to get 3 stars, and at the next level I only needed 2 minutes - like where is the logic behind this :D?
Also, nice progression, keep it up :D !!

Elvidur

Fortunately it finally resolved favourably, but it’s kind of shit to be living 3000km from home. Everytime something happens is a nightmare to react… And with Covid, I cannot even go for a visit without having to go throught hoops and forking a lot of money for test xD.

It was a pity for Cyber hook, it was so good, but hindered by those obvious problems :_(

SharkY

Oh that must be hard, this situation is like this, sadly :/ Also, really nice progression, congrats for this ^^ !

EvilBlackSheep

Such a nice and steady progress, congrats! Sorry to read you didn’t enjoy Wargroove but it can’t be everybody’s cup of tea. I hope you have more fun with the rest of the games. And I hope your family problems got sorted for the better. Take care :3

Elvidur

Thank you! Yeah, sorry about wargroove, I know you recommended it with the best of intentions :D. but it just wasn’t for me I guess… I cannot even explain why I did not enjoy it, which is weird, but I didn’t. For the family problems, now situation is better, but it’s very hard to live so far from home… Take care as well, and take care of your loved ones :)

EvilBlackSheep

Omg don’t be sorry, I’m sorry for the recommendation, I didn’t mean to make you play something you didn’t enjoy. Like I said, it can’t be everybody’s cup of tea.

Elvidur

The important part is the thought :D. I very much enjoyed all the other games you recommended me!!

Fnord

I agree about A Way Out, that game was amazing. Anyone who has someone they play co-op with should get that game, it’s just that good.

Elvidur

Damn, really that last scene was epic, the best coop game I’ve played in some time. Now I’m eyeing It takes two, everyone is telling me that is the best coop experience in years, so I will try to get it :D

Trent

Hi, thanks for your report and great progress overall!
It looks like your achievement links and achievement & playtime numbers are incorrect. It looks like maybe you’re having a syncing problem? Because all of your Recently Played lists are empty. :O
I also enjoyed Adventure Pals. I played it in co-op with my son, though we haven’t finished it yet.
What did you think of République / why did you abandon it? I haven’t played it– it’s in my alt’s backlog– but it looks interesting so I’m curious what you think.
Thanks again for posting– and that’s a really cool completion graphic!

Elvidur

I dont know what happens with the links, I don’t really care about that so did not check, I only use it for sharing my thoughts with the nice format :D. About republique, it’s a mobile game, and it shows. Gameplay is clunky as hell, character movement is bad, camera system is a nice idea, but I did not feel it was really well implemented… I don’t know, it felt a subpar experience and got bored quite quickly :_(. Maybe you will enjoy it more that I did, different games for different people!!

Cece09

Don’t worry its only because you have your games status hidden so it cant tell your times or anything
Both of you actually replied to my republique review and yeah I see you really didn’t enjoy it any better as time went on

Elvidur

Sorry about it, it really was a terrible game for me :_(

devonrv

Not OP, but I made it to the end of episode 3 of République, and the stealth mechanics just never get built upon: it’s always isolated guards moving in patrols and you wait to move around them. If you get caught (like, say, a guard happened to be facing the door you just opened), there are barely-noticeable differences to indicate immunity from your different escape items, and you lose all of them if you get captured. Also, since no mechanic is built upon, the stealth segments are interrupted by one-and-done riddles which themselves aren’t difficult to solve once you figure out what all you can interact with. It’s all quite boring.

Trent

Thank you for the reply and for your thoughts. I guess if I play it someday, I’ll keep my expectations low.

Elvidur

yeah, not every game can be a best seller, I guess. We can only dream :_)
