Monthly Update: January 2024
So, I started the year thinking I'd try to focus on my gifts/wins/larger games, and to not add too much to my backlog.
At least I've stuck to the playing games part? haha.
I was gifted Dave the Diver from a friend from the GMG discord, then not even an hour later, they had a giveaway where I also managed to win God of War.
Sorry backlog! I tried! It was not to be!
And then Palworld happened, and I bought that.
My backlog can ~suffer~ !
It's slightly evened out with my My Time at Portia completion, right?

Fun game, but has some frustrating achievements!
I focused most of my game on making sure to get Emily's romance achievement - once that was done, it was a lot easier to gradually work on the others.
I did enjoy my time in MTaP, and am glad that I went back to finally beat (and then complete) the game.
It did become a bit of a slog for the last few achievements (the child ones), as by that point I had already gotten all the house upgrades, the factory was fully upgraded and I had a heap of pre-made items for the commissions. I ended up speeding through the days at this point!
I'm keen to try out My Time at Sandrock sometime in the future!

Yes, I did play an insane amount of hours this month with MTaP, Palworld and Dave the Diver..Congratulations on your assassinations!! ᓚᘏᗢ
Yeah totally, the Portia completion absolutely crosses out.. almost everything your poor backlog just went through!! Dw about it.
Love your screenshots!! Post more Palworld ones please!!! Looking forward to February!! Are you excited to play any upcoming game in particular?
Thank you! Yes I feel like the Portia completion definitely makes up for the additions this month haha.
I still have a couple bosses left in Palworld, so hopefully more screenshots - then it will be time for a break from Palworld I think!
Hmmm not really sure about February yet. I know I want to finish Palworld and Dave the Diver so far.
I have a rough list I keep adding/taking games away from as my games to pick from here.
All depends on my mood and also whether I’m wanting to play singleplayer/multiplayer/desktop/steam deck.. So many decisions!
There are a couple games coming out this month a few friends are going to be playing as well, so depending on reviews if my backlog takes another hit there! Some of the games they are considering are Nightingale, Helldivers 2.. I’m sure there was another as well!
ooooh Planet of Lana, I almost, almost bought that a couple of days ago - I ended up nabbing the silent swan instead but I’m still watching it!
Excited to see what everyone’s end of the month post looks like again!!
How are you liking Palworld? I’m hoping to check it out on game pass sometime soon. The gameplay I’ve watched so far def looked a bit janky (I know it’s in early access, so not a knock on the game, but not sure if I should wait for it to get more polished, haha). But this screenshot looks stunning!
Also congrats on finishing Portia! I restarted it around the holidays in the hopes of perhaps finishing it before purchasing Sandrock, but for some reason it didn’t hold my attention. Maybe third time’s the charm XD
Haha I did really want to finish it before I buy Sandrock at some point!
I hear the quality of life updates are so much better that it is harder to go back to Portia after..
If you are going to play singleplayer, I’d probably suggest waiting haha
It is very fun and addictive, but I have had a few issues, such as crashing, and some of the QoL feature’s need to be updated (such as being able to chose what pals work on what).
Despite these issues, I kept playing because the game is just that fun!
I’d say it’s survival-lite - base building, a huge map to exploration, bosses. And then you have the pals to catch/collect/breed and use them to automate your bases.
I wouldn’t say it’s original, but it has taken a lot of good things from other games and smooshed them together to make a fun game. :D
I think gamepass is currently a little bit behind in updates, but I did just read on reddit that Microsoft will be working with the devs to bypass the typical delay in updating, so it may be on par with the steam version soon.
Thanks for the info! I’ve got plenty of other games to keep me busy, so I suppose no harm in waiting a bit to check out Palworld (I just bought a PS5 so I can play Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth when it comes out…whoops lol).
And to your other reply, yep, that’s exactly why I tried restarting Portia too XD I think I got bored before making it past the part I had previously played, so maybe if I push on a little further to reach new territory, it will grab my attention again. Even though I hadn’t played it since it first came out in 2019, I still remembered so much of it (how is that possible when I usually can’t remember what happened a week ago?!)
