Blue Ϟ Lightning
I was doing well this year up until the last month where suddenly I started activating games without a care. Went through my whole backlog of keys and decided I did want to try dozens of things.
Alot of them are escape room games to play with my wife so I feel like they don't count (at least not for my personal backlog).
Its still kind of sad as a year or two ago I dropped below 100 unplayed and had a downward trend.
Anyways!
The game I played the most this year was probably Trimps. Its...not good. Its not fun but its hella addicting. I don't know why I got into incremental games so late in life but its a spiral. All of the smaller incremental games I've played this year I look back on with fondness but trimps is just kind of there filling my steam stats with an embarrassing amount of hours. I like both Rusty's retirement and The Gnorp Apocalypse more but they both held me less.
Beside that, this year has been the year of multiplayer. Cult of the lamb, Spiritfarer, Raft, Lethal company, Tiny bit of content warning. At the very end we finally beat the main game for cuphead and I can finally move it to beaten...We still need to beat the final boss for the DLC but this seemed like enough.
If I have to pick a single game for the best singleplayer experience I had this year I think it might be Terra Nil.
Finally. Heres a 'Big ol Dump of games I've kept track of this past year.
Yearly update,

Still not used to that!
Not sure what it is about last year, but I did something similar where I was doing alright until the last couple months where I suddenly just started acquiring more games in massive quantities.
Great progress and wish you luck on getting your backlog back down. (I think we both need the luck…)
