May 2021 report
Good luck in a new month and enjoy your games!
Different addition to the Heroes of Might and Magic series. This time you have a strategy RPG mixed with puzzles and match 3 battles. And all of it works perfectly. Although the gameplay is in theory still the same = repetitive, it's actually rather addictive and variable as the battles are changing, developing and can get pretty challenging. Diversion to the main story lines are bounty quests, puzzle challenges and artifacts scattered around. Also you can skip random fight encounters if you don't want to waste time with small fishes, but they are good sport to get your units leveled up.
Story will put you in the shoes of five heroes (Anwen, Godric, Fiona, Aidan and Nadia) and their sidekicks as they struggle to save the world from destruction. This way you will play with every faction - elves, humans, undead, demons and wizards; so you can nicely enjoy the diverse tactics the different armies offer.
Story is okay, nothing too surprising. Graphics are very nice, suiting the younger heroes. Fights are fun and quite enjoyable.
Weakest point is the last campaign (wizards), it doesn't offer any bounties or puzzles, it's quite rushed and Nadia is an unappealing heroine. Also, there can be some problems with optimizing, changing the compatibility to Win7 helped. Multiplayer was supposed to get shut down at the 1st June, but it will stay alive… for now at least, bear it in mind if you aim for 100%.
I wouldn't mind seeing some similar addition to the HoMM series again, be it prequel, sequel or with some different heroes.
Mother and her daughter are enjoying a road trip together when their car gets sabotaged and they crash (if the mother would drive more carefully and slowly in the rain (!) their car wouldn't end up in the forest...). As mother regains consciousness she realizes that her daughter is gone and mysterious fog is slowly spreading around. Can a mother find her daughter sooner than something horrible happens to her? And what else will she uncover in the fog?
Oh well, a lot of mothers and daughters here…
Mediocre HOG. No voice acting so the cutscenes felt somewhat hollow. Sometimes you search for completely different items in the hidden object scenes. Lots of backtracking. Few times it wasn't clear what to do next. Story is… weak, not very captivating. There is apparently game breaking bug, which we were lucky to miss though. :P
Playing this I had terrible Déjà vu. Exactly the same pictures, same lines… I was so sure that I had already played it… and yes, I did. But not this game.
Lost Civilization is a HOG remake of a classic adventure game NiBiRu: Age of Secrets, with a slightly different approach - main characters got swapped and you are playing as a woman. But you will see the same scenes (graphically remade to suit the HOG genre better), characters and lines, even some of the puzzles are the same.
I am not sure if it's because I know the original game, but the story feels rushed and a little inconsistent. Also the voice acting is pretty strange - one line is voiced, the other two not and so on. All in all it wasn't so bad.
During May I managed to beat first Mass Effect and almost got to the end of the second. Letting some of the achievements for my soulmate to obtain in the second run. ;)
I am a big fan of the series, so I am truly enjoying it. First game really deserved the improvement in the textures, also squadmates got rather clever and can manage pretty well without me. Sometimes there is nothing left to shoot at for me. XD
There are few slight mishaps, nothing serious, mostly laughable matters.
Nothing new as I can't be adding more of Mass Effect... I have almost all of the squad now. I tried to take same shots as before so you can compare them to those I took from the orginal games (modded).

Oh, I did not know about the MP shutting down for Clash of Heroes! Damn, I still need those achievements… I agree, Clash of Heroes is an interesting addition to the Heroes of M&M series. Despite its completely different appearance it fits much better into the universe than I anticipated. And itäs definitely surprisingly addictive :)
Thanks for the screenshots comparing the old MEs to the LE. The old ones don’t look that bad by themselves, but there is definitely improvement when you see the newer ones. Glad to hear that they did a good job with the remaster.
Last messages on the forum suggested it will be alive, but I have not cross-checked this information with any other source. Seems like the community is still somewhat active, particularly on Discord.
Yeah, I agree and I am glad to see others addicted to it too! ;) Speaking for myself, I like it more than the 3D era.
Thanks for checking them out! <3 Don’t forget that what you see is the modded version, made by fans (they did splendid job). First Mass Effect was weakest of them all, that’s just true and you could see it well on Garrus:
Original, not modded.
Legendary Edition
Mass Effect deserved it, but you know, I love even the original form. :3 It’s just how it was made, I can’t be forcing today’s standards upon it (and I play games with worse graphics and enjoy them). ;) The colors and skins are more natural-like now, I would say. Best seen on Elcors or here on Saren.
Thanks for the additional screenshots. You can really see the difference. I don’t think I ever played ME modded as I played it right after its release. Back then I was very happy with the graphics. On the other hand I too play a lot of games with worse graphics and I don’t mind it in many cases. It’s probably a question of where one sets their priorities.
Damn, now I want to play ME again :D
From my six playthroughs of the first Mass Effect (I don’t count the Legendary run to it) I have played the modded version only once! And that was only because I have read that they made Garrus prettier in it and I was curious. XD
You are right about priorities! I am set to appreciate old stuff and I like to come back to it - be it games, movies, books. :)
Hah, go for it! It’s so much fun, even if one knows it upside down. ;D
