Starlynk

And so after a rather depressing post-summersale update, I’ve started slaying my backlog again! I’ve come to accept that there’s probably no way I’ll be able to finish games faster than adding them due to the many bundles out there, but hey, I’ll go complete some games anyway!

The Monthly Theme was a great motivation this month! I had many of the games on the list, so I worked at them tirelessly and this is post is the result so far!

THE UNFINISHED BACKLOG

  • LYNE

    23 hours playtime

    33 of 33 achievements

  • Sparkle 2 Evo

    6 hours playtime

    22 of 22 achievements

  • 12 Labours of Hercules

  • 12 Labours of Hercules II: The Cretan Bull
12 Labours of Hercules II: The Cretan Bull

    11 hours playtime

    22 of 22 achievements

A few of those came from my “Unfinished” backlog. I played Lyne for a while in 2014 or 2015 but never finished it and picked it up this month again and got it to 100%! Have to admit I used a guide for the last couple of levels, since I was drawing those lines in my dreams, but overall fun experience!

Sparkle 2 Evo was another one I finished. I actually played most of it in the past, but somehow never finished it. Well it’s done now! Not the most fun game, but it was alright I guess.

The Labours of Hercules games I played with my wife (she plays the levels first, and then I get them to gold star ;-)). We played the first one in the past, but she grew tired of it, so I finished it up, and then we played the second one (or well I played most of it :-P)).

THE BAD

  • Three Digits
    Three Digits

    6 hours playtime

    14 of 14 achievements

Three Digits is a horrible game. In theory the game sounded like fun since I really like playing with numbers, but the gameplay just mindnumbingly boring. 300 levels that have the same “gameplay”. Yeah, way too much even if the gameplay was fun, which it isn’t. Sometimes there’s some strategies you can apply to find the solution, but most of the time it was just brute force guessing, which well.. is not much fun..

THE GOOD

  • Hare In The Hat

    6 hours playtime

  • Zenge
    Zenge

    3 hours playtime

    1 of 1 achievements

Then there’s two really cool games I played, which I probably never would have played if it wasn’t for the theme!

Hare in the Hat is a casual puzzle game, with some kind-of hidden object clicking to find puzzles and then solving the actual puzzles. Most puzzles are rather easy but some were extremely frustrating (I’m looking at your Hungarian Rings!). The UI could use some work in pointing you in the right direction, but overall I really enjoyed the game. Even bought the DLC to get it to 100%!

The other game I really enjoyed (even wrote a Steam review for it!) is Zenge. Really nice atmosphere and casual puzzles. Made you think a little, but nothing really challenging, which made it perfect for this monthly theme! Nice little gem :-)

WHAT’S NEXT?

  • 12 Labours of Hercules III: Girl Power

  • Renowned Explorers: International Society
    Renowned Explorers: International Society

    59 hours playtime

    120 of 148 achievements

Don’t really have much time to play this week, and I’m also still playing GTA V and Renowned Explorers (Completion ETA for those games: Never :-P), so perhaps I can do one more game for the Monthly Theme. Thinking either Labours of Hercules III, Grow Home or Morphopolis. If anyone has a strong opinion on one of these games, please let me know!

That’s all for now! Peace out!

I have been *eons* staring at Lyne in hopes of finishing it one day. No such luck, so far. But glad to see someone else did! Also, when I get too obsessed with puzzles I start dreaming about them too. Cray cray? Maybe, but we're probably cray cray together on this one.

As for Zenge, it is really relaxing! One great thing about it is the joy of never dreaming about having to resort to guides.

Grow Home is a lot of fun, but I haven't finished it yet. I believe you'll like it, it's super sweet and beautiful! And you can pick up fat birds, which is a huge plus ~ba dum tss~. I was delighted with Morphopolis when I played it, so I'm sure so will you, by your style of gaming. It's awfully casual and the last puzzle is annoying but, trust me: just keep at it and you'll get there. Following a guide will take longer than trying it for yourself. (;

Starlynk

Haha yeah I feel kind of crazy about dreaming about games, but can’t help it, so I guess I really am crazy :)

Thanks for the tips for future games! I think I’ll play Morphopolis first and then if I have time I’ll start with Grow Home!

I’m glad to be of help! (:

On your next to play: I would probably go for Morphopolis (short, but I didn’t love it like I had expected: a bit on the tedious and boring side) or Grow Home. Personally I’m trying to get Grow Home for the monthly since it is short and I have heard good things about it from several friends.

Also agreeing with your view on Three Digits. :p I did like Two Digits, but three is just too… much.

MiniTaurus

I have played Morphopolis, have good art and super short but have weak control, the character move sooo slow

Starlynk

Going to go for Morphopolis first since it’s short and then if I have time I’ll try Grow Home as well.. Thanks for the help! :)

I actually have Two Digits in my backlog as well, but since I won Three Digits on Steamgifts, I decided to play that one first. I heard from other people as well that Two Digits is less brute force guessing than Three Digits, but I guess I just can’t be bothered with it anymore after playing Three ;-)

pearadise

I’m playing Two Digits right now and while it’s alright, it’s not got me looking forward to Three Digits. My main complaint is that you can’t select your level. I don’t want to have to go all the way through Full Pack #1 before I can try “three pack” or “primary pack.” Especially ona puzzle game of this nature there’s not reason to force the game to be so linear.

Starlynk

Ah yeah, that’s annoying too.. Sometimes you’re just staring at the screen and can’t find the solution and you just want to try another one, but you can’t. Very annoying. Also,if you’re not enjoying Two Digits then you definitely shouldn’t try Three Digits since it’s basically the same as Two Digits but then with extra annoyances since it’s more brute force guessing ;-)

pearadise

It’s not that I’m not enjoying it. I actually do like it. It just gets a little tedious sometimes due to it being forced to be linear. But I have heard Three Digits is a lot less enjoyable anyway due to it needing a lot more brute force guessing, as you said. I’ve heard several people say the concept works great with two digits but it doesn’t work nearly as well with three. But I own it, so I’ll have to do it eventually anyway :P

uguleley

If you don’t have much gametime this week, Grow Home is something I’d suggest you to play. For me it was a surprisingly fun experience, and it doesn’t take too much time to finish (unless you go for 100%, ofcourse). Either you like it or not, it’s one of those games that are worth giving a shot in my opinion. :)

Good job with the completions!

Ghostie

How did you solve the “Hungarian Rings” in Hare in the Hat? O_O

Starlynk

Yeah that one was horrible.. lots of trial and error.. and by lots I mean over an hour.. I tried the strategy from this website

Though you can’t follow it completely since the puzzle in game has less balls, but the idea works… still took me a lot of time though, cause I somehow still messed it up, before it worked (perhaps I was just lucky!)

Ghostie

Yeah, I tried using that website. I just don’t get it.
Stupid puzzle that doesn’t fit the difficulty of the rest of the game. >:(
