Seriously busy month at work and all. So not a lot of time for gaming and I only managed to complete one game.

My worst month since joining BLAEO 14 months ago. Yay for some record. \o/

I won this on SG and I was pretty sure I’d like to play the game. This is by the same dev as Bit Blaster XL which I enjoyed a lot as well.

orbt xl is fun, simplistic one-button arcade game. It advertises to be easy to pick-up and play while waiting for other things. That it is.
The game is so simple that it is hard to write something deep about it. But it’s not meant to be deep. That is kind of the point. It’s well made, fun and for the right person very addictive. Try it out!

April fails

Ugh, what a month. Haven’t really had the time to play anything and the great list Daerphen gave me for this month’s theme sits largely untouched…

Beat Tiny and Big: Grandpa’s Leftovers like half an hour before the deadline. x) I started the game way back when, probably pretty soon after winning it (over a year ago…) but couldn’t even complete the tutorial. The camera and controls as a combination were really hard and annoying for me. Now that I picked it up again, the gameplay was pure torture. Yup, mainly because of the camera but also a little thanks to the save checkpoints. Ugh. The third level out of the six was The Worst. xp However, I did like the art for the most part, I loved the soundtrack and I really liked the scenes and mythology. Overall, very frustrating experience. Wouldn’t have gotten the game if I had known.

Completed The Vanishing of Ethan Carter. I had actually played some of this previously, but gave up since the graphics didn’t work for me (everything was red polygons). Couldn’t find a solution quickly so gave up. For the challenge this was my shortest game, so went back and somehow got the graphics to work. :o Such a gorgeous game, nice puzzles and all. However, the story was a letdown. The buildup and the atmosphere gave to expect something better but eventually it did fall flat. Still, a powerful experience!

Didn’t have the time for the others, but my next game would have been To The Moon. I’ll keep this list handy and work on it later. :)

Other completions

Finally decided to kill Heaven Island VR MMMO which I’ve had for ages. Don’t know why I never got around to it before now… I like this type of “explore and find” games, but this particular one just isn’t much to talk about. Poor to mediocre graphics, mediocre sound and no story and little to discover. I really wish this would have been more. Also killed Heaven Forest VR MMO and Heaven Forest Nights VR MMO which are the same game in different colour. Yay. And I mean literally: the map is the same and the location of items is the exact same. I don’t even want to sell the cards for these games so as to not encourage this kind of lazy game ‘making’. If you want to try one of these, Nights is the best.

How is it April already?

March has felt like an extra long month, yet April 1st surprised me. I had several more 100 % games planned for March so I could catch up on my goals. Only managed these 12.

Phrase Shift comes highly recommended. It’s not that deep or complex, but it is very fun and different if you’re a word game addict like me.

Slash It and Slash It 2 are fun typing/reaction games. Very easy. So relaxing and just a little bit addictive! I preferred Slash it 2 for it’s word mode (1 has a shape matching mode which is replaced by the word typing mode in 2, otherwise the games are pretty much the same). The only thing I didn’t like, especially in Slash It, was the visual choices made. The font used was too hard to read which probably was chosen for arbitrarily adding difficulty. Also in that shape matching mode your shape started just on the edge of ‘correct’ and by waiting even a second you lost the match – and you only had that one chance.

Agent Walker was pretty interesting in its setting of WWII, but ultimately I didn’t like it. Not only did it come with an utterly pointless boss fight (seriously, who thinks HOGs need boss fights?) but the story/game structure felt weird. Between the climax of the story and the ending there was a lot of faffing about and at one point I really couldn’t recall what I was working towards. Slightly same problems in Endless Fables.

Magical Silence is quirky and somewhat fun. It’s more like a visual experience than a game. Play it for easy 100%, play it if you like surreal or want to explore pretty pixel art for 15 minutes. I’d like to recommend this but I know most people won’t like it. :)

Evo Explores is a fun, relaxing, tranquil puzzle game about optical illusions. Your task is to guide Evo through escher-esque alien environments trying to piece together some of their history. The story isn’t that involved, but the atmosphere and the puzzles are something every puzzle/casual fan should check out. If you liked Zenge, you’ll like this.

Other than these, I’ve been playing The Way which is gorgeous af. ♥
