Laz dedicates all his free time to Dungeons & Dragons instead of video games

Long time no see on the activity feed! These past months I've been far too busy to play any other video games than Overwatch. I DID start playing some Civilization V with a friend of mine, but mostly I've dedicated most of my time to studies, Overwatch and Dungeons & Dragons 5e. I started playing as a high elven noble in one campaign, and before I knew it, I became the Dungeon Master of three groups! Me and my groups have very much fun, and I'm glad to hear my players enjoy it as well.

Though I haven't played a wide variety of video games, I sure have studied them, considering I am studying a bachelor in the field of Interactive Media with a focus on game design, where I take a look at both digital and analog games. Dungeons & Dragons acts like a really nice creative outlet (as a DM), as well as an interesting point of study when I create the user experience for my parties.

Backlog, I am sorry, you have been neglected. Colour me defeated.

I began taking quick, shoddily, really shittily written recaps of the sessions my players have if you are keen on reading it here, but I can totally understand if you’re not interested at all. ;-)

As somebody who played the original AD&D back in the day, it’s great to see that D&D is still going strong. I didn’t even know there was a 5e. I did play a few scenarios of 4e though. Thanks for sharing!

I used to work at a (primarly comic book shop) shop which sold board/table games! I am a veteran of 3.5e, of which I truly loved. When 5e came out in 2014, my store ended up destroying the 4e books because it sold so poorly! I can, thankfully say that 5e has truly brought the system to newcomers and veterans alike in the sense that it’s easy to get into and easy to read for older players. I remember I went “what? is.. is it that simple now? there’s no algebra?” when I went to create a character for 5e. I’m truly indoctrinated.

Y’know…I guess I can see how that would work. For the younger kids, it’s more accessible, easy, fun out-of-the-box. Not Work. For the old folks, who have to squint to read the fine print, maybe something a little less arcane works for us now. Maybe we’re not so ready/willing to climb a mountain of complexity (and algebra), and just want something easier, but where we can still create our characters and stories. That part never gets old.

RPGs in general have actually come quite far since the AD&D games. They tend to be far more user friendly, without really losing much depth, and they often give you more room to make your own character the way you want it. Then there are outliers like A Time of War, which might require a PhD in abstract maths to be playable…

A time of War is not quite that bad, but it’s a very heavy game

Jelly as hell. My Legend of the Five Rings game is still on hiatus.

Aw, I’m sorry! I can totally relate to such woes. : (

I guess you can say you’re gonna be a Lazy person in terms of backlog defeating this month. ;)

I’m sorry, I tried not to say it but I only lasted a day without doing it. D:

I love itttttt. If I still had a Tumblr I’d follow the hell out of you, but I don’t. So for now it’s bookmarked! Thanks a bunch (:

Laz

Thanks, haha! I have long pauses between I post something because of schedules and stuff, so you might see long dates between each wave of sketches!
