I beat Mega Man Perfect Harmony, a fangame that never made it past beta 0.6, and…yeah, you can definitely tell it still needed work. All the bullet spam means that only a couple characters are even viable to play as (Mega Man is not one of them), and even then, you can forget about avoiding damage entirely. Cloak Man is easily the worst example of this, but Speed Man deserves mention for being even cheaper. It’s honestly a relief when you reach the end of a level and it just ends without a Robot Master because of how unfair they can be (especially after an equally-brutal level). You don’t even get to continue from the second Wily stage if you get game over; retrying puts you back at the beginning of the first Wily stage. The only reason I didn’t give up here is because I found out that there are only those two Wily stages left until the demo ends (and because the first Wily stage is the easiest level in the game).
Apparently, the dev tried to release a more-complete, more-original version of the game on Steam in late 2020, but it was taken down for being “too similar to Mega Man,” which is too bad; this game had a lot of potential, and I would’ve liked to see it finished. No update from the dev since early 2021, so this may very well be all we get.
EDIT: Just started watching a video of the Steam version, and the level design is SUPER different from the beta, with the first level being a near-copy of Cut Man’s stage from Mega Man 1 (other stages have similar stolen levels). Now I’m wondering why the dev threw out all the original level design in favor of this plagiarism, especially after putting in the work to make the graphics more original…
I also beat this game:
Grid-based puzzle. Left-stick moves one hand, right-stick moves the other, and they can only go a set number of units away from their bodies before you have to backtrack. The goal is to get both hands together on the same tile.
Most of the game is easy, but it’s also well designed since some of those easy levels tutorialize things that aren’t too intuitive, like the fact that you can slice off a hand from a body to use as a weight to hold down a switch, and said body will simply regrow another hand without loss of range. Plus, the game does end up getting some tricky levels every now and then, even if the difficulty isn’t consistent.
Also, it’s free, so I can easily recommend it.
